The object of this study is to propose a rational method of resistance strength and flexural deformation for structures using high strength concrete(400-700kgf/cm/sup 2/). The material property(stress-strain relationship) is to be modelize using regression analysis of experimental result. And the applicability of trapezoidal stress model is to be verified. An analytical method is used by the moment-curvature relationship which is based on stress-strain relationships of material for discreted element of section. The evaluation method of moment-curvature of high strength concrete structures is also proposed by using the Monte Carlo Simulation based on a probabilistic concept that could minimize an error due to iterated calculations and random variable of material properties.

A p-version finite element model based on degenerate shell element is proposed for the analysis of orthotropic laminated plates. In the nonlinear formulation of the model, the total Lagrangian formulation is adopted with large deflection and moderate rotation being accounted for in the sense of von Karman hypothesis. The material model Is based on the Huber-Mises yield criterion and Prandtl-Reuss flow rule in accordance with the theory of strain hardening yield function, which is generalized for anisotropic materials by introducing the parameters of anisotropy. The model is also based on extension of equivalent-single layer laminate theory(ESL theory) with shear deformation, leading to continuous shear strain at the interface of two layers. The Integrals of Legendre Polynomials we used for shape functions with p-level varying from 1 to 10. Gauss-Lobatto numerical quadrature is used to calculate the stresses at the nodal points instead of Gauss points. The validity of the proposed p-version finite element model is demonstrated through several comparative points of view in terms of ultimate load, convergence characteristics, nonlinear effect, and shape of plastic zone
The theories having been developed thus far account for higher-order variation of transverse shear strain through the depth of the beam and satisfy the stress-free boundary conditions on the top and bottom surfaces of the beam. A shear correction factor, therefore, is not required. In this paper, the effect of surface on the axial buckling and free vibration of nanobeams is studied using various refined higher-order shear deformation beam theories. Furthermore, these theories have strong similarities with Euler-Bernoulli beam theory in aspects such as equations of motion, boundary conditions, and expressions of the resultant stress. The equations of motion and boundary conditions were derived from Hamilton's principle. The resultant system of ordinary differential equations was solved analytically. The effects of the nanobeam length-to-thickness ratio, thickness, and modes on the buckling and free vibration of the nanobeams were also investigated. Finally, it was found that the buckling and free vibration behavior of a nanobeam is size-dependent and that surface effects and surface energy produce significant effects by increasing the ratio of surface area to bulk at nano-scale. The results indicated that surface effects influence the buckling and free vibration performance of nanobeams and that increasing the length-to-thickness increases the buckling and free vibration in various higher-order shear deformation beam theories. This study can assist in measuring the mechanical properties of nanobeams accurately and designing nanobeam-based devices and systems.
Shanghai Tower is a composite structure building with a height of 632 m. In order to verify the structural properties and behaviors in construction and operation, a structural health monitoring project was conducted by Tongji University. The monitoring system includes sensor system, data acquisition system and a monitoring software system. Focusing on the health monitoring in construction, this paper introduced the monitoring parameters in construction, the data acquisition strategy and an integration structural health monitoring (SHM) software. The integration software - Structural Monitoring/ Analysis/ Evaluation System (SMAE) is designed based on integration and modular design idea, which includes on-line data acquisition, finite elements and dynamic property analysis functions. With the integration and modular design idea, this SHM system can realize the data exchange and results comparison from on-site monitoring and FEM effectively. The analysis of the monitoring data collected during the process of construction shows that the system works stably, realize data acquirement and analysis effectively, and also provides measured basis for understanding the structural state of the construction. Meanwhile, references are provided for the future automates construction monitoring and implementation of high-rise building structures.
The objective of this study was to reverse engineer a swash plate type piston pump mounted on a wheeled armored vehicle and to analyze the structure of the pump case. From the analysis, the weak parts were identified and corrected in the final design. Each element corresponding to the piston pump case was analyzed. The analytical method was given static boundary conditions, load conditions and confirmed displacement, strain, stress, and safety factor. Plastic deformation and damage were also confirmed and the component elements redesigned through structural analysis Structural analysis and vibration analysis were carried out for the components of the piston pump case. The piston pump model was finally modified by structural analysis and vibration analysis results for each component assembly, and a prototype was designed. Durability test and environmental test were carried out and the test results satisfied all of the requirements. Therefore, the analytical method presented in this study can be utilized as a methodology for element component design in the development of various piston pumps.

An external overload or impact is an important factor affecting the safety of large-scale structures. The proposal of this paper is the development of a system for detecting overload and impulse using a single PVDF film sensor. In large-scale structures, the load causes the structure to be deformed and the impulse generates vibration on the structure. Generally, low frequency deformation or bending of a structure is measured with a strain gauge and the high frequency vibration is detected by an accelerometer. On the other hand, a single sensor that can detect both deformation and vibration has not been developed. In this study, the development of a detection system integrated with a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) film sensor, amplifier, and software was attempted to monitor deformation and impact through a single sensor. The system was verified by the possibility of detecting overload and impulse, and the two filtered signals of the PVDF were compared with a conventional strain gauge and an accelerometer.
This study's primary aim is to check the existence of a representative volume element for granular materials and determine the link between the properties (responses) of macro structures and the size of the discrete particle assembly used to represent a constitutive relation in a two-scale model. In our two-scale method the boundary value problem on the macro level was solved using finite element method, based on the Cosserat continuum; the macro stresses and modulus were obtained using a solution of discrete particle assemblies at certain element integration points. Meanwhile, discrete particle assemblies were solved using discrete element method under boundary conditions provided by the macro deformation. Our investigations focused largely on the size effects of the discrete particle assembly and the radius of the particle on macro properties, such as deformation stiffness, bearing capacity and the residual strength of the granular structure. According to the numerical results, we suggest fitting formulas linking the values of different macro properties (responses) and size of discrete particle assemblies. In addition, this study also concerns the configuration and displacement fluctuation of discrete particle assemblies on the micro level, accompanied with the evolution of bearing capacity and deformation on the macro level.
A numerical investigation of the impact of steel ductility on the strength and ductility of two-way corner and edge-supported concrete slabs containing low ductility welded wire fabric is presented. A finite element model was developed for the investigation and the results of a series of concurrent laboratory experiments were used to validate the numerical solution. A parametric investigation was conducted using the numerical model to investigate the various factors that influence the structural behavior at the strength limit state. Different values of steel uniform elongation and ultimate to yield strength ratios were considered. The results are presented and evaluated, with emphasis on the strength, ductility, and failure mode of the slabs. It was found that the ductility of the flexural reinforcement has a significant impact on the ultimate load behavior of two-way corner-supported slabs, particularly when the reinforcement was in the form of cold drawn welded wire fabric. However, the impact of the low ductility WWF has showed to be less prominent in structural slabs with higher levels of structural indeterminacy. The load-deflection curves of corner-supported slabs containing low ductility WWF are brittle, and the slabs have little ability to undergo plastic deformation at peak load.
Cracked reinforced concrete in compression has been observed to exhibit lower strength and stiffness than uniaxially compressed concrete. The so-called compression softening effect responsible is thought to be related to the degree of transverse cracking and straining present. It significantly affects the strength, ductility and load-deformation response of a concrete element. A number of experimental investigations have been undertaken to determine the degree of softening that occurs, and the factors that affect it. At the same time, a number of diverse analytical models have been proposed by various this behavior. In this paper, the softened truss model thoery for low-rise structural shearwalls is employed using the principle of the stress and strain transformations. Using this theory the softening parameters for the concrete struts proposed by Hsu and Belarbi as well as by Vecchio and Collins are examined by 51 test shearwalls available in literature. It is found that the experimental shear strengths and ductilities of the walls under static loads are, in average, very close to the theoretical values; however, the experiment shear strengths and ductilities of the walls under dynamic loads with a low (0.2 Hz) frequency are generally less than the theoretical values.

Hydraulic test was conducted to evaluate the structural strength of valve exposed to high pressure environment during combustion progress. For the proof pressure, 1.05 times higher pressure than MEOP was applied in the hydraulic test. Two units of valves were used in the hydraulic test. The result for measured strain of the valve dependent on the pressurization conditions during the test were verified comparing with the results for the finite element analysis. Observing the difference between the results for the finite element analysis and the hydraulic test, the difference was within 20% error and the plastic deformation was not generated.
