Knowledge is often represented as a set of rules or a semantic network in intelligent systems. Recently, ontology has been widely used to represent semantic knowledge, because it organizes thesaurus and hierarchal information between concepts in a particular domain. However, it is not easy to collect semantic relationships among concepts. Much time and expense are incurred in ontology construction. Collective intelligence can be a good alternative approach to solve these problems. In this paper, we propose a collective intelligence approach of Games With A Purpose (GWAP) to collect various semantic resources, such as words and word-senses. We detail how to construct the semantic information model or ontology from the collected semantic resources, constructing a system named FunWords. FunWords is a Korean lexical-based semantic resource collection tool. Experiments demonstrated the resources were grouped as common nouns, abstract nouns, adjective and neologism. Finally, we analyzed their characteristics, acquiring the semantic relationships noted above. Common nouns, with structural semantic relationships, such as hypernym and hyponym, are highlighted. Abstract nouns, with descriptive and characteristic semantic relationships, such as synonym and antonym are underlined. Adjectives, with such semantic relationships, as description and status, illustration - for example, color and sound - are expressed more. Last, neologism, with the semantic relationships, such as description and characteristics, are emphasized. Weighting the semantic relationships with these characteristics can help reduce time and cost, because it need not consider unnecessary or slightly related factors. This can improve the expressive power, such as readability, concentrating on the weighted characteristics. Our proposal to collect semantic resources from the collective intelligence approach of GWAP (our FunWords) and to weight their semantic relationship can help construct the semantic information model or ontology would be a more effective and expressive alternative.

For the minimum weight design of ship structures it is desirable that tank arrangement is predetermined to obtain the minimum weight and then structural arrangement and scanting of each murder is determined to obtain the minimum weight within the given tank arrangement. To carry out the tank arrangement to give minimum weight a minimum weight design program which covers whole ship structures is developed by the combination of minimum weight design program of longitudinal members by classification rules and minimum weight design program of transverse members by generalized slope deflection method which were developed by the authors. The hullweight is estimated by summation of the weight of cargo hold part and the weight except cargo hold part which can be estimated by the empirical formula. In this study, the variation of hullweight is shown with the number of tank, the number of web and the location of longitudinal bulkhead. For the application of actual design alternative designs of tank arrangement which satisfy MARPOL regulation are determined. And several minimum weight designs of whole ship structures are carried out to obtain the tank arrangement which gives minimum weight and then the hullweight is compared with that of existing ship.
In most pattern recognition and image understanding applications, images are degraded by noise and other distortions. Therefore, it is more relevant to decide how similar two objects are rather than to decide whether the two are exactly the same. In this paper, we propose a method for recognizing degraded symbols using a distance measure between two graphs representing the symbols. a symbol is represented as a graph consisting of nodes and edges based on the run graph concept. The graph is then transformed into a reference model graph with production rule containing the embedding transform. The symbols are recognized by using the distance measure which is estimated by using the number of production rules used and the structural homomorphism between a transformed graph and a model graph. the proposed approach is applies to the recognition of non-note musical symbols and the result are given.
The goal of this study was to review the visual grading and allowable stress determination methodologies for the domestic softwood. Previous studies used different grading (KFRI 1995-27, KFRI 2000-39, KFRI 2007-3, KFRI 2009-1) and allowable stress determination methodologies (ASTM D 245, KS F 2152, JAS 1990). The results of the visual grading were different by each researcher. Compared to the $1^{st}$ grade proportion from the previous studies using the previous specification on visual grading (KFRI 1995-2007), a higher $1^{st}$ grade proportion was found from the studies using the current specification (KFRI 2009). Compared to the allowable stress values from the small clear sample, the higher allowable stress values from the structural size were found. The results indicated that the strength reduction factor used in small clear sample was too conservative for the different grades. To obtain consistent results for the grade, it is required to have experts in visual grading and authorized organizations. An official standard methodology for the allowable stress value determination needs to be defined for the reliable stress value.

In this paper, we design the Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Precompensator(ANFP) for the suppression of low-frequency oscillation and the improvement of system stability. Here, ANFP is designed to compensate the conventional Power System Stabilizer(PSS). This design technique has the structural merit that is easily implemented by adding ANFP to an existing PSS. Firstly, the Fuzzy Precompensator with Loaming ability is constructed and is directly learned from the input and output data of the generating unit. Because the ANFP has the property of learning, fuzzy rules and membership functions of the compensator can be automatically tuned by teaming algorithm Loaming is based on the minimization of the ems evaluated by comparing the output of the ANFP and a desired controller. Case studies show the 7posed schema can be provided the good damping of the power system over the wide range of operating conditions and improved dynamic performance of the system.
Naive Bayesian classifiers are a powerful and well-known type of classifiers that can be easily induced from a dataset of sample cases. However, the strong conditional independence assumptions can sometimes lead to weak classification performance. Normally, naive Bayesian classifiers use Gaussian distributions to handle continuous attributes and to represent the likelihood of the features conditioned on the classes. The probability density of attributes, however, is not always well fitted by a Gaussian distribution. Another eminent type of classifier is the neuro-fuzzy classifier, which can learn fuzzy rules and fuzzy sets using supervised learning. Since there are specific structural similarities between a neuro-fuzzy classifier and a naive Bayesian classifier, the purpose of this study is to apply learning distribution graphs constructed by a neuro-fuzzy network to naive Bayesian classifiers. We compare the Gaussian distribution graphs with the fuzzy distribution graphs for the naive Bayesian classifier. We applied these two types of distribution graphs to classify leukemia and colon DNA microarray data sets. The results demonstrate that a naive Bayesian classifier with fuzzy distribution graphs is more reliable than that with Gaussian distribution graphs.

In this paper we present an approach to the structure identification based on genetic algorithm and to the parameter identification by hybrid learning method in neuro-fuzzy-genetic hybrid system in order to predicate the Mackey-Glass Chaotic time series. In this scheme the basic idea consists of two steps. One is the construction of a fuzzy rule base for the partitioned input space via genetic algorithm, the other is the corresponding parameters of the fuzzy control rules adapted by the backpropagation algorithm. In an attempt to test the performance the proposed system, three patterns, x(t-3), x(t-6) and x(t-9), was prepared according to time interval. It was through lots of simulation proved that the initial small error of learning owed to the good structural identification via genetic algorithm. The performance was showed in Table 2.
With the assistance of typhoon field data at aerial elevation level observed by meteorological satellites and wind velocity and direction records nearby the ground gathered in Guangzhou Weather Station between 1985 and 2001, some key wind field parameters under typhoon climate in Guangzhou region were calibrated based on Monte-Carlo stochastic algorithm and Meng's typhoon numerical model. By using Peak Over Threshold method (POT) and Generalized Pareto Distribution (GPD), Wind field characteristics during typhoons for various return periods in several typical engineering fields were predicted, showing that some distribution rules in relation to gradient height of atmosphere boundary layer, power-law component of wind profile, gust factor and extreme wind velocity at 1-3s time interval are obviously different from corresponding items in Chinese wind load Codes. In order to evaluate the influence of typhoon field parameters on long-span flexible bridges, 1:100 reduced-scale wind field of type B terrain was reillustrated under typhoon and normal conditions utilizing passive turbulence generators in TJ-3 wind tunnel, and wind-induced performance tests of aero-elastic model of long-span Guangzhou Xinguang arch bridge were carried out as well. Furthermore, aerodynamic admittance function about lattice cross section in mid-span arch lib under the condition of higher turbulence intensity of typhoon field was identified via using high-frequency force-measured balance. Based on identified aerodynamic admittance expressions, Wind-induced stochastic vibration of Xinguang arch bridge under typhoon and normal climates was calculated and compared, considering structural geometrical non-linearity, stochastic wind attack angle effects, etc. Thus, the aerodynamic response characteristics under typhoon and normal conditions can be illustrated and checked, which are of satisfactory response results for different oncoming wind velocities with resemblance to those wind tunnel testing data under the two types of climate modes.

In cold-formed steel (CFS) structures, such as trusses, wall frames and columns, the use of back-to-back built-up CFS angle sections are becoming increasingly popular. In such an arrangement, intermediate fasteners are required at discrete points along the length, preventing the angle-sections from buckling independently. Limited research is available in the literature on the axial strength of back-to-back built-up CFS angle sections. The issue is addressed herein. This paper presents the results of 16 experimental tests, conducted on back-to-back built-up CFS screw fastened angle sections under axial compression. A nonlinear finite element model is then described, which includes material non-linearity, geometric imperfections and explicit modelling of the intermediate fasteners. The finite element model was validated against the experimental test results. The validated finite element model was then used for the purpose of a parametric study comprising 66 models. The effect of fastener spacing on axial strength was investigated. Four different cross-sections and two different thicknesses were analyzed in the parametric study, varying the slenderness ratio of the built-up columns from 20 to 120. Axial strengths obtained from the experimental tests and finite element analysis were used to assess the performance of the current design guidelines as per the Direct Strength Method (DSM); obtained comparison showed that the DSM is over-conservative by 13% on average. This paper has therefore proposed improved design rules for the DSM and verified their accuracy against the finite element and test results of back-to-back built-up CFS angle sections under axial compression.
Experimental investigations on the seismic behaviors of the PVC-FRP Confined Reinforced Concrete (PFCRC) columns under low cyclic loading are carried out and two variable parameters including CFRP strips spacing and axial compression ratio are considered. The PFCRC column finally fails by bending and is characterized by the crushing of concrete and yielding of the longitudinal reinforcement, and the column with a high axial compression ratio is also accompanied by the cracking of the PVC tube and the fracture of CFRP strips. The hysteretic curves and skeleton curves of the columns are obtained from the experimental data. With the increase of axial compression ratio, the stiffness degradation rate accelerates and the ductility decreases. With the decrease of CFRP strips spacing, the unloading sections of the skeleton curves become steep and the ductility reduces significantly. On the basis of fiber model method, a numerical analysis approach for predicting the skeleton curves of the PFCRC columns is developed. Additionally, a simplified skeleton curve including the elastic stage, strengthening stage and unloading stage is suggested depending on the geometric drawing method. Moreover, the loading and unloading rules of the PFCRC columns are revealed by analyzing the features of the skeleton curves. The quantitative expressions that are used to predict the unloading stiffness of the specimens in each stage are proposed. Eventually, an analytical model for the PFCRC columns under low cyclic loading is established and it agrees well with test data.
