  • In domestic construction industry, there is lack of the communication between planning, design, construction and maintenance. This problem makes the omission of information and the loss of cost. Therefore, the introduction of BIM can be a solution about that. BIM manages all information generated during all life-cycle of a structure and consequently maximizes the efficiency of utilizing information. This is done through 3D information model associated with a three-dimensional(3D) parametric CAD. This study proposes the design process of steel box bridge for structural design work of bridge construction project based on BIM. This process has 3D modeling progress done by using the information decided in design phase. When the subject for the proposed process is superstructure of steel box bridge in construction, the structural calculation sheet can be derived with the structural design process based on BIM.

  • A sequential coupled field analysis of electromagnetic free bulging was performed by using FEM. A 2D axi-symmetric electromagnetic model based on the magnetic vector potential is proposed for the calculation of magnetic field and Lorentz's forces. The Newmark integration method is used to calculate the transient dynamic plastic deformation of sheet during free bulging. In the finite element model, the effect of sheet deformation on the electromagnetic field analysis is taken into consideration. In order to confirm the sequential electromagnetic-mechanical coupling analysis, an experiment with an electromagnetic forming apparatus was conducted. The results showed that the final bulge height of the sheet predicted from the proposed method is in good agreement with experimentally measured height.

  • The axial compressive strength of unidirectional FRP is generally quite lower than its axial tensile strength. This fact decreases the advantages of FRP as main load bearing member in engineering structure. In order to restrain the lateral expansion and splitting of GFRP, and accordingly heighten its axial compressive bearing capacity, a project that to confine GFRP pole with surrounding CFRP sheet is suggested in the present study. The Experiment on the CFRP sheet confined GFRP poles showed that a combined structure of high bearing capacity was attained. Basing on the experiment research a theoretical iterative calculation approach is suggested to predict the ultimate axial compressive stress of the combined structure, and the predicted results agree well with the experimental results. Then the influences of geometrical parameters on the ultimate axial compressive stress of the combined structure are also analyzed basing on this approach.

  • Recently all kinds of structural materials are subjected to the severe corrosive environment. Especially corrosion problems of heat exchanger such as galvanic corrosion, erosion and cavitation raised by both contaminated solution and high velocity of fluid to increase cooling effect of heat exchanger have been frequently reported in these days. In this study two kinds of sheet materials and five kinds of tube materials are used for galvanic corrosion characteristics and their corrosion current density calculation. The tube materials having the most galvanic corrosion resistance between tube and sheet of heat exchanger were Al Brass(68700) and Al Brass(C6872TS) and although Ti tube predominantly indicated the highest individual corrosion resistance among those five tube materials. it appeared that Ti tube can be allowed as sheet materials to get galvanic corrosion easily. However it is considered that Cu-Ni tube materials is not only easy to produce galvanic corrosion significantly between tube and sheet regardless of kinds of sheet materials but also is appeared considerably its own high corrosion current density

  • For various process pressures, aluminum doped zinc oxide(AZO) films were deposited by in-line pulsed-DC sputtering. The deposited AZO films were optically and electrically investigated and analyzed for the window layers of CIGS solar cell systems. As the pressure was increased from 9 mtorr to 15 mtorr, the thickness of AZO was decreased as a result of scattering and its sheet resistance was rapidly increased. The transmittance of AZO was slightly decreased as the pressure was increased and the calculation of figure of merit(F.O.M) was dependent on the sheet resistance. The structural characteristics of AZO thin films analyzed by X-ray diffraction(XRD) showed no significant dependency according to the pressure.

  • The nominal structural stress calculation method proposed by Radaj has included some problems as follows: (a) How the value of the diameter D is decided in the method; (b) It is not possible to estimate nominal structural stress of the spot welded joints with the balanced sheet in-plane load that no general loads are obtained by FE shell analysis. In this paper, the new method for calculating nominal structural stress was proposed to solve above-mentioned problems. The proposed method calculates the nominal structural stress through the circular plate theory in theory of elasticity. This theoretical analysis uses not only general loads but also nodal displacements around spot welding provided by FE shell analysis as boundary condition. Fatigue test data of various spot-welded joints could be arranged in a narrow bandwidth on S-N chart using the nominal structural stresses calculated by proposed method. The fatigue life prediction method using the proposed method for calculating nominal structural stress is useful for the prior evaluation technique that can predict the fatigue life of spot welding by CAE.

  • In order to study the ductility and the lateral load carrying capacity of the masonry walls strengthened with CFRPs (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer sheets), three pieces of masonry walls subjected to cyclic loads with low frequency and vertical load of constant amplitude have been tested. Two different strengthening methods have been used. The strengthening efficiency is affected by the strengthening method. A simplified calculation approach has been introduced based on the experimental test results, and the theoretical results agree reasonably well with the experimental results. It is found that the critical loads, the critical displacements, the ultimate loads, the ultimate displacements and the ductile coefficients of the masonry walls strengthened with CFRPs improve remarkably (6%~57%). Therefore, the masonry structures strengthened with CFRPs are of better ductility and of better lateral load carrying capacity than the masonry structures without any strengthening measurements.

  • Recently, earthquakes have occurred frequently in worldwide. These earthquakes cause various forms of natural and physical damage. In particular, liquefaction in which the ground shows liquid-like behavior causes great damage to the structure. Accordingly, various liquefaction damage reduction methods are being studied and developed. Therefore, in this study, a method of reducing liquefaction damage in the event of an earthquake applicable to existing structures was studied using the sheet pile method. The 1-G Shaking table test was performed and the ground was constructed with Jumunjin standard sand. A two-story model structure was produced by applying the similitude law, and the input wave applied a sine wave with an acceleration level of 0.6 g and a frequency of 10 Hz. The effect of reducing structure damage according to various embedded depth ratio was analyzed. As a result of the study, the structure settlement when the ground is reinforced by applying the sheet pile method is decreased by about 71% compared to when the ground is not reinforced, and the EDR with minimum settlement is "1". In addition, as the embedded depth ratio is increased, the calculation of the pore water pressure in the ground tends to be delayed due to the sheet pile. Based on these results, the relationship with structural settlement according to the embedded depth ratio is proposed as a relational equation with the graph. The results of this study are expected to be used as basic data in developing sheet pile methods applicable to existing structures in the future.
