Residual stresses play important role for design of steel structural members. Cold formed sections usually have residual stresses caused by roll forming. When compared to stresses caused by the working load, especially for compressed members, the effects of residual stresses can be favorable or unfavorable depending on magnitude, orientation and distribution of these stresses. The research presented in this paper includes experimental investigations of residual stresses, initial imperfections and material properties on cold formed carbon steel open cross sections. Experimental results have been compared to results obtained in similar tests with stainless and high strength steel cross sections. Theoretical and experimental research, conducted for cold formed open cross sections, are important for design of axially compressed members. This paper presents two methods of residual stresses investigation: magnetic method and method of pre-drilled holes and obtained results have been compared with results of residual stresses from other authors.
The research described in this paper was aimed toward improving the understanding of the interaction of tire inflation pressure and the soil-tire interface stresses. A three-directional stress transducer was developed to measure stress distribution on undertread for a tractor tire. The transducer can directly measure three-directional stresses (normal stress, tangental stress and lateral stress and lateral stress) simultaneously and has both strong structure and high sensitivity, which is not changed by the abrasion of the detecting plate. Measurements of soil-undertread interface stresses were made at tire center on undertread on a 12.4-R24 radial tractor tire opeated at three combinations of a dynamic load (11.8kN) and three inflation pressures (59kPa, 108kPa and 157kPa). These measurements showed that as inflation pressure increased, the soil-undertread interface stresses increased. The results of three stresses comparisons were shown that the peak normal stresses were considerably higher than the tangential peak stresses and the peak lateral stresses.
Job stresses are realized as harmful factors affected workers' mental health. Job stresses can be defined as the physical and emotional responses that are occurred when the job requirements should be beyond the workers' abilities, followed with health problems and even work-related injuries. Job stresses could be resulted from the work environment and conditions related with workers' personality. This study is conducted to evaluate the job stresses for managers in the construction industry, by the questionaires which collected 302(75.5%) among 400 ones. The evaluation items are the levels of job stresses and stressors as well as the relationship between the variables. The controls should be recommended for physical and mental health.
Determination of mobilized shear strength parameters (that identify stresses on the failure plane) is required for analyzing the stability by limit equilibrium method. Generalized Hoek-Brown (GHB) and Mohr-Coulomb (MC) failure criteria are usually used for obtaining stresses on the plane of failure. In the present paper, the applicability of these criteria for determining the stresses on failure plane is investigated. The comparison is based on stresses on the real failure plane which are obtained from the Mohr stress circle. To do so, 18 sets of data (consist of principal stresses and angle of failure plane) presented in the literature are used. In addition, the values account for (VAF) and the root mean square error (RMSE) indices were calculated to check the determination performance of the obtained results. Values of VAF and RMSE for the normal stresses on the failure plane evaluated from MC are 49% and 31.5 where for GHB are 55% and 30.5, respectively. Also, for the shear stresses on failure plane, they are 74% and 36 for MC, 76% and 34.5 for GHB. Results show that the obtained stresses and angles of failure plane for each criterion differ from real ones, but GHB results are closer to the empirical results. Also, it is inferred that results are affected by the failure envelope not real failure plane. Therefore, obtained shear strength parameters are not mobilized. Finally, a multivariable regressed relation is presented for determining the stresses on the failure plane.
This paper deals with the residual stresses developed in an epoxy film deposited on Si wafer. First, chemically induced residual stresses due to the volumetric shrinkage in cross-linking resins during polymerization are treated. The curvature measurement method is employed to investigate the residual stresses. Then, thermally induced stresses are investigated along the interface between the epoxy film and Si wafer. The boundary element method is employed to investigate the whole stresses in the film. The singular stress is observed near the interface corner. Such residual stresses are large enough to initiate interface delamination to relieve the residual stresses.
The Hole Drilling Method(HDM) is widely used to measure residual stresses in the welded structures. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the accuracy fo measuring residual stresses when drilling the hole by Air-abrasive Jet machine(AJM). Simulated residual stresses wre introduced by applying known stresses to steel bars. These known streses were then compared with measured stresses relaxed from hole drilling. the obtained results are summarized as follows; 1) It was possible to obtain well defined holes with the nozzle designed for this study. 2) If the hole shape is not cylindrical, critical may occur. 3) In the uniaxial strain field, the measurement error of the maximum principal stress was within .+-.10 percent. The orientation angle of the maximum principal stress was within 8.deg. from the given directioin. 4) meausrements were made varying hole depths. Little or no change of stresses occurs since holse were drilled more than the depth of the 0.6 times diameter. 5) The air-abrasive jet machining for drilling holse does not cause appreciable apparent stresses which si critical to measure residual stresses.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of covert narcissism and self control on the daily stresses encountered by school-age boys and girls. The subjects were 517 children who attended in elementary schools in Daegu and Gyeongbuk Province. Self reporting questionnaires were used to investigate covert narcissism, self control and daily stresses. The data thus collected were analyzed by means of Pearson's correlation, multiple regression, using SPSS Win 19.0. The results are as follows. (1) In term of daily stresses, the regression findings indicated the main effect of covert narcissism and self control. Daily stresses increased as school-age boys' and girls' covert narcissism increased or their self control decreased. (2) Covert narcissism influenced more on daily stresses than self control did for both boys and girls. (3) There were significant interactions between school-age girls' covert narcissism and self control in term of daily stresses.

The residual stresses in molded plastic parts can be divided into the flow induced residual stresses produced in flowing stages and the thermally induced residual stresses produced in cooling state. Reducing residual stresses in the final parts is one of the goals in recent study. The present study focused on comparing the predicted values for thermal residual stresses in freely and constrained quenched plastic plates with and without free volume theory. As a result the final residual stresses showed the opposite pattern in thickness direction. furthermore by applying free volume theory the predicted residual stress at the center showed about 50% of the values without free volume theory for constrained quenched case.

The characteristics of residual stresses occurring in PM steel based nickel (FLN2-4405) was investigated. The measurements of residual stresses were carried out by electrochemical layer removal technique. The values and distributions of residual stresses occurring in PM steel processed under various densities and heat treatment conditions were determined. In most of the experiments, tensile residual stresses were recorded in surface of samples. The residual stress distribution on the surface of the PM steels is affected by the heat treatment conditions and density. Maximum values of residual stresses on the surface were observed sinter hardened condition and $7.4\;g/cm^3$ density. Minimum level of recorded tensile residual stresses are150 MPa and its maximum level is 370 MPa.
The insertion of femoral implants is the most important phase for surgeons, given the characteristics of the cement during its mixing phase, generating residual stresses of thermal origin that increase the different stresses induced in the bone cement. The aim of our study is to determine the different stresses that affect the cement and more particularly at the cement-implant interface for different temperatures, and to make a comparison with the cement at ambient temperature. It was concluded that, there are a large concentration of stresses in the proximal part of the cement. For normal stresses, the bone cement is affected by stresses of tension and compression due to the effect of polymerization and the contraction of the cement.
