Objectives: This study was conducted to investigate the relationships among job stress, job satisfaction, and mental health in marine officers. Methods: The researchers gathered data on marine officers working at a harbor in Chungcheong Province, South Korea, using a self-reported questionnaire. Mental health was measured by the Symptom Checklist-90-Revision (SCL-90-R), and general characteristics including socioeconomic factors, job stress, and job satisfaction were measured by structured questionnaires. Multiple regression analysis was performed to investigate the relationships among job stress, job satisfaction, and mental health status according to the symptom dimensions of the SCL-90-R. Results: Among the marine officers, obsessive-compulsive behavior, depression, and somatization were the most problematic symptoms. Those who reported poor health, low job satisfaction, and high job stress had a higher prevalence of psychoticism, somatization, depression, anxiety, and phobic anxiety. Conclusions: An occupational health system should be introduced that would regularly check the mental health of marine officers in charge of ships and sailors, in order to help reduce their stress levels, enhance their job satisfaction, and thereby improve their mental health.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the health promotion, stress and the quality of life and relationship between those factors in patients with genital neoplasms. Method: Data of 151 subjects with genital neoplasms were collected from August 15 to October 12, 2009 at out-patient clinic in one general hospital in Daegu. Results: The mean score of health promotion of the subjects was 1.49 (${\pm}0.53$), stress of gynecologic cancer was 1.36 (${\pm}0.76$) and the quality of life of the subjects was 2.38 (${\pm}0.59$). There was a negative correlation between the quality of life and stress (r=-.482, p<.001), and positive correlation between the quality of life and health promotion (r=.442, p<.001) in the subjects. Conclusion: This study showed correlations between the health promotion, stress and the quality of life of patients with genital neoplasms. The quality of life of the patients with genital neoplasms was low when their stress was high. In contrast, their quality of life was high when the score of health promotion was high. Considering the research findings, it is necessary to develop a health promotion program for patients with genital neoplasms to strengthen their health promotion behaviors.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the association of job stress and health promotion behaviors with the quality of life in female riot police officers. Methods: A cross-sectional design was adopted, and a convenience sample of 182 female riot police officers from 5 Metropolitan Police Agencies in South Korea. All participants completed a self-administered survey questionnaire that assessed job stress, health promotion behavior, and quality of life in May 2018. The collected data were analyzed using t-test, analysis of variance, and correlation and multiple linear regression analyses, all of which were executed using SPSS/WIN 23.0 and STATA 13.0. Results: The level of job stress among participants was moderate, and the mean was 45.25 out of a maximum possible score of 100. The mean scores that emerged for health promotion behaviors and the quality of life were 2.62 (maximum=4) and 56.59 (maximum=100), respectively. Job stress (r=-.380, p<.001) and health promotion behaviors (r=.559, p<.001) were correlated with the quality of life. The statistically significant predictors of the quality of life were job stress (${\beta}=-.212$, p=.001) and health promotion behaviors (${\beta}=.417$, p<.001). Conclusion: The variables that were associated with the quality of life of female riot police officers were job stress and health promotion behaviors. Therefore, interventions that can enhance job stress management and health promotion behaviors are needed to improve the quality of life of female riot police officers.
Objectives: Work stress is associated with non-communicable diseases, increased healthcare costs, and decreased work productivity among employees in the information technology sector. There is a need for regular work-stress screening among employees using valid and reliable tools. The Tool to Assess and Classify Work Stress (TAWS-16) was developed to overcome limitations in existing stress assessment tools in India. This study aimed to test the reliability of TAWS-16 in a sample of managerial-supervisory employees. Methods: This observational reliability study included data from 62 employees. Test-retest and inter-method reliability were investigated using a TAWS-16 web application and interview by telephone, respectively. Kappa values and intra-class correlation coefficients were calculated. Internal consistency was assessed through Cronbach's alpha. Results: For both test-retest and inter-method reliability, the agreement for both work-related factors and symptoms suggestive of work stress exceeded 80%, and all kappa values were 0.40 or higher. Cronbach's alpha for test-retest and inter-method reliability was 0.983 and 0.941, respectively. Conclusions: TAWS-16 demonstrated acceptable reliability. It measured stressors, coping abilities, and psychosomatic symptoms associated with work stress. We recommend using TAWS-16 to holistically identify work stress among employees during periodical health check-ups in India.
Purpose: The purpose of this study aimed to investigate job stress levels of occupational health managers and whether job stress levels were affected by various factors such as size and types of company and work-related characteristics of occupational health managers. Methods: The study was conducted from May to September 2011 in the chemicals manufacturing factories in Korea and total subjects were 59 occupational health managers. We measured job stress levels of occupational health managers using Korean occupational stress scale (KOSS) questionnaires and the information of company characteristics was obtained using a self-reported questionnaire. Results: The characteristics of company such as type, size and industries and job characteristics of occupational health managers were significant factors in job stress. Job demand, job control, job insecurity, organizational system and occupational environment scores were significantly associated with type, size and industries of company. In multiple regression analyses, we found that job demand was significantly associated with occupational position and type of company, and job insecurity was significantly associated with working hour. Also, we found that lack of reward was significantly associated with education level, speciality, duration of work and hour and type of company. Conclusion: These results indicate that job stress of occupational health managers is significantly associated with work-related characteristics and company's characteristics.
The consciousness and eating habits of the housekeeper directly influence the stress level and health quality of the household occupants. In Korea, most housewives are in charge of dietary life. Accordingly, their attitudinal clusters toward dietary (eating) life were researched in relation to their stress and health. The research results showed that irregular eating habits cause stress. Therefore, it is necessary for housewives to have a regular eating habit. The results were as follows. The house wives' attitudes toward dietary life were categorized into 5 clusters: regular and speedy overeating, regular and frequent eating, regular and light eating, irregular and light eating, irregular and speedy overeating. The cluster of regular and frequent snacks was 24.3%. The cluster of irregular and speedy overeating caused the most stress. Especially the house wives' group belonging to the cluster of irregular and speedy overeating were under social and emotional stress, while the cluster of regular and light eating and the cluster of irregular and light eating were under concentration stress. The cluster of regular and frequent snacks and the cluster of irregular and light eating had negative effect on their health, while the cluster of regular and speedy overeating had negative effect on their family's health by their social stress.
Purpose: The purpose of this correlational study was to identify relationships among job stress, health beliefs and health behaviors of aircrews and contributing factors to aircrew's health promoting behaviors. Method: Two-hundred twenty-four aircrew members completed questionnaires. The questionnaires were composed of a demographic form, health behavior scale, self-efficacy scale, perceived benefit scale, perceived barrier scale, job demand scale, and latitude scale. Result: The subject's health behavior has shown significant correlations with self-efficacy, benefit, and barrier. Significant negative correlations were found between job stress and self-efficacy. Relationships between job stress and barriers were also statistically significant. In demographic features, statistically significant difference were found between subject's rank and job stress score. Also, there was a significant difference between health behavior and the subject's age. Conclusion: Future efforts should focus on the development of a program to consider aircrew's perceived benefits, perceived barriers and self-efficacy to the compliance of health promoting behaviors.
Purpose: This study was to identify the relations between stress and health locus of control in nursing college students. Methods: A total of 243 subjects aged between 17 and 27 were selected through convenient sampling. Data were collected with a self reported questionnaire from March 2 to 25, 2013. Collected data were analyzed with SPSS/PC Win 15.0. Results: Differences in stress and health locus of control according to general characteristics were as follows. Stress were significantly different according to gender (t=-2.51, p<.05), grade (F=5.40, p<.01), school record (F=5.72, p<.01), stress solving methods (F=2.62, p<.05). Internal health locus of control was significantly different according to gender (t=2.30, p<.05), grade (F=14.73, p<.001), religion (F=4.63, p<.01), school record (F=5.29, p<.01), economic state (F=5.50, p<.001) and smoking (F=4.17, p<.05). Chance health locus of control was significantly different according to sibling rank (F=2.86, p<.05). Except chance health locus of control, internal heath locus of control and dependence health locus of control have a negative correlation with stress. 15.6% of variance in stress was explained by dependence health locus of control, chance health locus of control, and grade. Conclusion: The findings of this study may be useful in understanding the stress expression of nursing college students and developing more specific programs on personality and self-control.
