Efficiency Improvement of MLA (Micro Lens Array) using Aperture (Aperture를 이용한 MLA의 효율 개선)

  • This paper presents light transmission efficiency by optical adhesive thickness between MLA and aperture layer and by aperture hole size. The gap between MLA and Aperture layer is adjusted by the shim. The more optical adhesive thickness increases, the better light transmission efficiency increases up to a point. After that, the light transmission efficiency decreases because stray lights cannot transmit through the aperture layer owing to cut-off by aperture layer. And as a result of light transmission efficiency with changing aperture hole size, the light transmission efficiency is proportional to area of aperture hole. The more specified process is made, the better data and sample will be got.

  • When using a secondary battery in energy storage units, if the grid is in light duty the active power is stored so it can be used when the grid is in heavy duty. This makes possible for the load equalize and make the grid optimized. Recently the government is trying to propagate this technology. Depending on its capacity this kind of electric energy storage unit is used in adjusting the frequency, break up the energy peak in summer and winter, stabilize the energy output of renewable energy which can change unstably because of the environment. Which makes it possible to stabilize the grid. It is anticipated that market of 120 trillion won will be developed worldwide in 2030. Currently in Korea a steady supply is in progress. However because of stray electromagnetic waves some other electronics are malfunctioning. This paper covers the research in the method to detect the emission noise in small electric energy storage units using lithium secondary batteries and battery management system, Power conditioning systems with CIPSR standards. And the research of a more efficient method to measure such stray electromagnetic waves.

  • ACR(All Clear Reflector), also widely referred to as FFR(Free Form Reflector), were designed in general and intelligent ways using a NUDBS surface for the mathematical modelling of the reflector shape and artificial intelligence as the optimum design algorithm. An ACR, which consists of a continuous surface reflector and clear outer lens, offers styling advantages and provides a high quality light performance. The clear outer lens of an ACR remains efficient even with a highly inclined shape, as in the design of a sports car, as well as the complete clearness of the reflector surface eliminates the nuisance of stray light caused by the steps between adjacent segments of multi-faced reflectors. The application of an ACR to low beam lamp was so sucessful to obtain the sharp cut-off with the lens-free single-surfaced-smooth reflector. The design technique of ACR was tested with all types of lamps, including low beams, high beams, and fog lamps.

  • In recent years, a miniature spectrometer has been extensively developed due to the marriage of fiber optics and semiconductor detector array. This type of miniature spectrometer has advantages of low price and robustness due to the capability of mass production and no moving parts are required such as lenses, mirrors and scanning monochromator. These systems are ideal for use in teaching labs, process monitoring and field analyses. A portable near infrared (NIR) system has been developed for qualitative and quantitative analysis. This system includes a tungsten halogen lamp for light source, a fiber optics connected a light source, and a sample module to the microspectrometer, The size of spectrometer can be as small as 2.5 cm x 1.5 cm x 0.1 cm. Wavelength ranges can be chosen as 360-800 nm, 800-1100 nm and 1100-1900 nm depending on the type of detector. The software consists of various tools for multivariate analysis and pattern recognition techniques. To evaluate the system, long and short-term stability, wavelength accuracy, and stray light have been investigated and compared with conventional scanning type NIR spectrometer. This developed system can be sufficiently used for quantitative and qualitative analysis for various samples such as agricultural product, herbal medicine, food, petroleum, and pharmaceuticals, etc.

  • Prothrombin Time (PT) is used as a measure of blood coagulation time. An optical analysis of the signal generating mechanism is described here for the reflection-type arrangement. Thromboplastin added into serum or whole blood initiates the coagulation process. We added a sufficient amount of magnetic particles into the sample before adding thromboplastin and subjected the mixture to a rotating magnetic field. The laser light gets reflected in a periodically modulated fashion with respect to the magnetic field rotation. Analysis of this decaying modulation could produce a reasonable coagulation time. We also introduce a simulation model to explain the signal generating mechanism using LightTools.$^{TM}$

  • In a solar coronagraph, the most important component is an occulter to block the direct light from the disk of the sun. Because the intensity of the solar outer corona is $10^{-6}$ to $10^{-10}$ times of that of the solar disk ($I_{\odot}$), it is necessary to minimize scattering at the optical elements and diffraction at the occulter. Using a Fourier optic simulation and a stray light test, we investigated the performance of a compact coronagraph that uses an external truncated-cone occulter without an internal occulter and Lyot stop. In the simulation, the diffracted light was minimized to the order of $7.6{\times}10^{-10}I_{\odot}$ when the cone angle ${\theta}_c$ was about $0.39^{\circ}$. The performance of the cone occulter was then tested by experiment. The level of the diffracted light reached the order of $6{\times}10^{-9}I_{\odot}$ at ${\theta}_c=0.40^{\circ}$. This is sufficient to observe the outer corona without additional optical elements such as a Lyot stop or inner occulter. We also found the manufacturing tolerance of the cone angle to be $0.05^{\circ}$, the lateral alignment tolerance was $45{\mu}m$, and the angular alignment tolerance was $0.043^{\circ}$. Our results suggest that the physical size of coronagraphs can be shortened significantly by using a cone occulter.

  • Linear Astigmatism Free - Three Mirror System (LAF-TMS) is the linear astigmatism free off-axis wide field telescope with D = 150 mm, F/3.3, and $FOV=5.51^{\circ}{\times}4.13^{\circ}$. We report the design and analysis results of its mirrors and optomechanical structures. Tolerance allowance has been analyzed to the minimum mechanical tolerance of ${\pm}0.05mm$ that is reasonable tolerance for fabrication and optical alignment. The aluminum mirrors are designed with mounting flexure features for the strain-free mounting. From Finite Element Analysis (FEA) results of mounting torque and self-weight, we expect 33 - 80 nm RMS mirror surface deformations. Shims and the L-bracket are mounted between mirrors and the mirror mount for optical alignment. The mirror mount is designed with four light-weighted mechanical parts. It can stably and accurately fix mirrors, and it also suppresses some of stray light.

  • As the Three-level ZVS PWM DC-DC converter operates likewise full-bridge ZVS PWM DC-DC converter and the blocking voltage of each switching device is a half of the DC-link voltage, it is suitable for the high imput voltage applications. However, it has some problems as follows; The blocking voltage of each devices is unbalanced and it causes the power losses of the inner switching devices to be increased. Also, it has narrow load range so that the switching losses and the efficiency are reduced as it goes to the light load. This paper presents an nove Three-level ZVS PWM DC-DC converter, which can reduce the overvoltage of the outer switches, eliminate the unbalance of the voltage sharing between the switches at turn-off due to the stray inductances, and operate from no load to full load. The characteristics and the performances of the proposed Three-level ZVS PWM DC-DC converter are verified by simulation and experimental results
