Survival and Thermal Inactivation of Coliform Bacteria after the Heat Treatment at 143°F (유우원(乳牛源) 대장균군세균(大腸菌群細菌)의 치사열(致死熱)에 관한 연구)

  • Survival and thermal inactivation after heat treatment at $143^{\circ}F$ were observed among 27 strains of coliform bacteria isolated from dairy cattle. The results obtained were as follows. 1. The obvious differences in heat-sensitivity were observed among the strains tested. 2. No strain was found resistant to the heat treatment of $143^{\circ}F$ for 30 minutes. 3. A marked effect of density of coliform bacteria on the survival after the heat treatment was observed. As the density of coliform bacteria was increased, the rate of survival was increased markedly regardless of the length of heat treatment.

  • Since the sheet metal forming of Mg alloy is performing at elevated temperature, the effect of process conditions related with the forming temperature is very important factor. Therefore, the investigation for process variables is necessary to design the tools and process conditions. In this study, the effects of process variables were studied by the experimental and FE analysis using the square cup deep drawing. The temperature, forming speed, and lubricant condition were investigated. When forming temperature was $250^{\circ}C$, speed forming was low, and teflon sheet was used as lubricant, the formed parts were good without defects.

  • In order to numerically evaluate automotive hydro-formed DP-steel tubes on crash performance considering welding heat effects, the finite element simulations of crash behavior were performed for hydro-formed tubes with and without heat treatment effects. This work involves the mechanical characterization of the base material and the HAG-welded zone as well as finite element simulations of the crash test of hydro-formed tubes with welded brackets and hydro-forming of tubes. The welding heat effects on the crash performance are evaluated in efforts to improve the process optimization procedure of the engine cradle in the design stage. In particular, FEM simulations on indentations have been performed and experimentally verified for material properties of weld zone and heat affected zone.

  • An approximate similarity theory has been applied to predict the forming load of non-axisymmetric forging of aluminum alloys through model material tests. The approximate similarity theory is applicable when strain rate sensitivity geometrical size and die velocity of model materials are different from those of real materials. Actually the forming load of yoke which is an automobile part made of aluminum alloys(Al-6061) is predicted by using this approximate similarity theory. Firstly upset forging tests are have been carried out to determine the flow curves of three model materials and aluminum alloy(Al-6061) and a suitable model material is selected for model material test of Al-6061 And then and forging tests of aluminum yokes have been performed to verify the forming load predicted from the model material which has been selected from above upset forging tests, The forming loads of aluminum yoke forging predicted by this approximate similarity theory are in good agreement with the experimental results of Al-6061 and the results of finite element analysis using DEFORM-3D.

  • The flame structure and soot formation in the counterflow Ethylene-Air nonpremixed flame are numerically analyzed. The present soot reaction mechanism involves nucleation, surface growth, particle coagulation, and oxidation steps. The gas phase chemistry and the soot nucleation, surface growth reactions are coupled by assuming that the nucleation and soot mass growth has the certain relationship with the concentration of benzene and acetylene. In terms of the centerline velocity and the soot volume fraction, the predicted results are compared with the experimental data. The detailed discussion has been made for the sensitivity of model constants and the deficiencies of the present model. Numerical results indicated that the acetylene addition to the soot surface plays the dominant role in the soot mass growth for the counterflow nonpremixed flame.

  • In this paper, the effect of grain refinement on room temperature ductility of copper was addressed. Recent experimental results have shown that this material, as well as a number of other single-phase metals that are ductile when coarse-grained, loose their ductility with decreasing grain size in the sub micrometer range. A recently developed model in which such materials are considered as effectively two-phase ones (with the grain boundaries treated as a linearly viscous second phase) was applied to analyze stability of Cu against ductile necking. As a basis, Hart's stability analysis that accounts for strain rate sensitivity effects was used. The results confirm the observed trend for reduction of ductility with decreasing grain size. The model can be applied to predicting the grain size dependence of ductility of other metallic materials as well.

  • The aim of the present study is to investigate the scaling and dynamic erects on the plate cutting response. A series of cutting tests for unstiffened and longitudinally stiffened steel plate specimens in a quasi-static condition were carried out, varying the plate thickness. Based on the previous as well as the present test results, the scaling effect of Plate thickness on the cutting response is investigated. Dynamic erects are also clarified from the devious theoretical and experimental results. The Cowper-Symonds constitutive equation originally derived for mild steel is modified to consider the influence of strain-rate sensitivity on yield strength of high tensile steel.

  • Low cycle fatigue test results of Type 316 stainless steel in $310^{\circ}C$ water environment can be summarized as follows. 1. Cyclic stress response of Type 316 stainless steel shows negative strain rate sensitivity, primary hardening and secondary hardening. 2. Fatigue life in $310^{\circ}C$ water environment was shorter than fatigue life in room temperature air environment. This was because of water environment and temperature effects.

  • There is world wide concern for safety of nuclear power installations after the terrorist attack on World Trade Center in 2001 and several other civilian structures in the last decade. The nuclear containment structure in many countries is a double shell structure (outer shell a RCC and inner a prestressed concrete). The outer reinforced concrete shell protects the inner shell and is designed for external loading like impact and blast. A comparative study of non-linear response of reinforced concrete nuclear containment cylindrical shell subjected to impact of an aircraft (Phantom) and explosion of different amounts of blast charges have been presented here. A material model which takes into account the strain rate sensitivity in dynamic loading situations, plastic and visco-plastic behavior in three dimensional stress state and cracking in tension has been developed earlier and implemented into a finite element code which has been validated with published literature. The analysis has been made using the developed software. Significant conclusions have been drawn for dissimilarity in response (deflections, stresses, cracks etc.) of the shell for impact and blast loading.

  • Spray casting of hypereutectic Al-Si based alloy has been reported to provide distinct advantages over ingot metallurgy (IM) or rapid solidification/powder metallurgy (RS/PM) process in terms of microstructure refinement. Hypereutectic Al-Si based alloys have been regarded attractive for automotive and aerospace application, due to high specific strength, good wear resistance, low coefficient of thermal expansion, high thermal stability, and good creep resistance. In this study, hypereutectic Al-25Si-2.0Cu-1.0Mg alloy was prepared by OSPREY spray casting process. High temperature deformation behavior of the hypereutectic Al-Si based alloy has been investigated by applying the internal variable theory proposed by Chang et al. The change of strain rate sensitivity and Creep transition were analyzed by using the load relaxation test and constant creep test.
