HP Laser Interferometer Measurement System[HP5529A] is one of the most powerful equipment for measurement of the motion accuracy. The straightness measurement system of the HP5529A is composed of wollastone prism and reflector. In this system, straightness error is measured by relative lateral motion between prism and reflector. But rotating motion of prism or reflector as moving optic causes not real straightness error but additive straightness error. Especially unwanted straightness error as this becomes very large when reflector is used as moving optic and an interval between reflector and prism is distant. In this paper, the compensation method is proposed for removing additive error and experiment is carried out for theoretical verification.
The laser interferometer system such as HP5529A is one of the most powerful equipment fur measurement of the straightness error in precision stages. The straightness measurement system, HP5529A is composed of a Wollaston prism and a reflector. In this system, the straightness error is defined as relative lateral motion change between the prism and the reflector and computed from optical path difference of two polarized laser beams between these optics. However, rotating motion of the prism or the reflector used as a moving optic causes unwanted straightness error. In this paper, a compensation method is proposed for removing the unwanted straightness error generated by rotating the moving optic and an experiment is carried out for theoretical verification. The result shows that the unwanted straightness error becomes very large when the reflector is used as the moving optic and the distance between the reflector and the prism is far. Therefore, the prism must be generally used as the moving optic instead of the reflector so as to reduce the measurement error. Nevertheless, the measurement error must be compensated because it's not a negligible error if a rotating angle of the prism is large. In case the reflector must be used as the moving optic, which is unavoidable when the squareness error is measured between two axes, this compensation method can be applied and produces a better result.
In this paper a servo-system is developed to improve straightness of linear motor stages. When a linear motor stage is used for high-precision linear motion systems, high precision straightness accuracy is necessary to meet the required position accuracy. In such cases, machining and assembling cost increases to improve the straightness accuracy. An electro-magnetic actuator which is relatively cost effective than any other conventional servo-systems is suggested to compensate the fixed straightness error. To overcome the compensation error due to the friction, a sliding mode control is applied. The effectiveness of the suggested mechanism and the control performance are illustrated along with some experimental results.
This paper describes a three-probe system that can be used to measure the parallelism and straightness of a pair of rails simultaneously. The parallelism is measured using a modified reversal method, while the straightness is measured using a sequential two-point method. The measurement algorithms were analyzed numerically using a pair of functionally defined rails to validate the three-probe system. Tests were also performed on a pair of straightedge rails with a length of 250 mm and a maximum straightness deviation of $0.05{\mu}m$, as certified by the supplier. The experimental results demonstrated that the parallelism-measurement algorithm had a cancellation effect on the probe stage motion error. They also confirmed that the proposed system could measure the slope of a pair of rails about $0.06{\mu}rad$. Therefore, by combining this technique with a sequential differential method to measure the straightness of the rails simultaneously, the surface profiles could be determined accurately and eliminate the stage error. The measured straightness deviation of each straight edge was less than $0.05{\mu}m$, consistent with the certified value.
The guide-ways of precision machine tools are one of important element of machine tools. It has usually a pair of surfaces for constraint of one direction with bearing. In the case of precision machine tools, non-contact bearing such as hydrostatic bearing and aerostatic bearing is adopted usually. In this case, profiles of rails has effect on straightness and the clearance of bearing has effect on stiffness of guide way, which changes to higher if clearance changes to smaller. The clearance is varied along moving table according to relative distance of pair of rails. The relative distance of pair of rail can be divided by three properties. First and second properties are straightness of each pair of rail and bearing pad. And, third is parallelism about pair of rails and pairs of bearing pad. There are several methods for measuring straightness of each surface such as reversal method, sequential two point method, and way straightness. These straightness measuring methods are always acquiring deviation of profile from eliminating linear fitted inclined line and don't have the information of parallelism. Therefore, to get the small clearance for high stiffness, the straightness of rail and bearing pad and parallelism about pair of rails and pair of bearing pads are measured for correction such as regrinding, reassembling and lapping. In this research, new and easy method for measuring parallelism of pair of rails is suggested. Two displacement probe and sensor stage, which is carry on the displacement sensor, are needed. The simulation and experiment was accomplished about pair of horizontal guide way to confirm the measurement of parallelism. And, the third probe is added to measure the straightness of each rails by sequential two point method. From the estimation of combined these two methods, it is confirmed that the profiles of a pairs of rails can be measured.
The straightness property is one of fundamental geometric tolerances to be strictly controlled for guideways of machine tools and measuring machines. The staightness measurement for long guideways was usually difficult to perform, and it needed additional equipments or special treatment with limited application. In this paper, a new approach is proposed using the profile matching technique for the long guideways, which can be applicable to most of straghtness measurements. An edge of relativelly sthort length is located along a divided section of a long guideway, and the local straightness measurement is performed. The edge is then moved to the next section with several positions overlap. After thelocal straightness profile is measured for every section along the long guideway with overlap, the global straightness profile is constructed using the profile matching technique based on theleast squares method. The proposed techinique is numerically tested for two cases of known global straightness profile arc profile and irregular profile and those profiles with and without random error intervention, respectively. When norandom errors are involved, the constructed golval profile is identical to the original profile. When the random errors are involved, the effect of the number of overlap points are investigated, and it is also found that the difference between the difference between the constructed and original profiles is very close to the limit of random uncertainty with juist few overlap points. The developed technique has been practically applied to a vertical milling machine of moving table type, and showed good performance. Thus the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method are demonstrated, and shows great potential for variety of application for most of straightness measuirement cases using straight edges, laser optics, and angular measurement equipments.
In this paper, we propose a slider servo-mechanism driven by electro-magnetic actuator to improve straightness of linear motor stages. Based on axial-position dependent deterministic characteristics of the straightness error, a feedforward compensation control is appled to reduce the straightness error. In the consideration of uncertain properties of friction and its effects on positioning accuracy, a sliding mode control is applied. The effectiveness of the suggested mechanism and the control performances are illustrated along with some experimental results.
Two roll straightener showed the remarkable improvement in straightness betterment of the bar compared with other types of straightener. So, in this study we designed a two-cross straightener curvature for the straightness improvement of a bar and contact sections with respect to the variation of the gap between two-cross roll using nonlinear contact analysis. The Displacement in terms of a intersection angle between roll and bar was predicted on with the effect of a straightness and plastic deformation behaviors of the bar according to the roll drive of a two cross-roll straightener.
For measuring out the submicron order straightness, a precision measuring device is developed in this paper. The device is constructed with a hydrostatic feed table and a capacitive type sensor which is mounted to the feed table. Straightness is acquired as substracting the motion error of feed table from the measured profile with probe. Motion error of feed table is simultaneously compensated upto 0.120${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of linear motion error and 0.20arcsec of angular motion error using the active controlled capillary. Reversal method and strai호t-edge is used fur estimating the measuring accuracy and from the experimental result, it is verified that the device has the measuring accuracy 0.030m. Also, through the practical application on the measurement of ground surface, it is confirmed that the device is very effective to measure the submicron order straightness.
The criteria for determining the elements are the minimum zone method(MZM) and the least squares method(LSM). The LSM is deterministic and simple but is limited at the measurements whose errors are significant compared with form errors. For the precise condition, minimum zone method(MZM) has been selected to determine the elements. It is not deterministic and nonlinear so that a optimizing procedure is needed. The Straightness is the fundamental problem in the evaluating form error. In this paper, a new approach adapting the genius education concept is proposed to obtain an accurate results for the minimum zone problem of the straightness. Its computational algorithm is studied on a set of randomly generated data. To be of almost no account of the specification(the number and the standard devistion etc.) of the sample data, the results shows excellent reliability and high accuracy in estimating the straightness.
