  • This paper addresses the method for the shape design sensitivity analysis of the buckling load in the continuous elastic body. The sensitivity formula for critical load is analytically derived and expressed in terms of shape variation, based on the continuum formulation of the stability problem. Though the buckling problem is more efficiently solved by the structural elements such as beam and shell, the elastic solids are considered in this paper because the solid elements can be used in general for any kind of structures whether they are thick or thin. The initial stress and buckling analysis is carried out by the commercial analysis code ANSYS. The sensitivity is computed by using the mathematical package MATLAB using the results of ANSYS. Several problems including straight and curved beams under compressive load, ring under pressure load, thin-walled section and bottle shaped column are chosen to illustrate the efficiency of the presented method.

  • Four Rhizosolenia species of marine diatom were appeared at 30 sites in Korean coastal waters from September 2008 to February 2010. The cell shape, diameter, length of pervalvar axis, external process, segment and areolation characters of the species were examined. All four species were cylindrically shaped, but the external processes differed. Segment striations were regularly straight, and velum showed hexagonal, circular pore and narrow slit. Rhizosolenia formosa and R. hyalina were only occurred in September 2008 from the Yellow Sea, R. bergonii was appeared throughout the year from Korea Strait and Yangyang coasts, and R. setigera was abundantly showed in all seasons from all site. R. formosa is a newly recorded species in Korean coastal waters.

  • A since authors started IORT for stomach cancer patient on 198, we developed various sized, shaped IORT cones for better clinical application and homogeneous surface and depth dose distribution. Authors concluded as following. 1. The shaping block should be fixed on the tray, not under the tray for homogeneous dose distribution. 2. The straight cone was showed better dose distribution than divergence cone. 3. The acryl cone was superior than the stainless-steel cone. 4. The acryl cover fixed on the end for IORT cone not only improvement of surface dose, but also homogenity of depth dose.

  • A side-extrusion model, meant for deeper understanding of the material flow in the CONFORM (continuous extrusion forming) of trub shaped aluminum profiles is presented. In order to get the desirded straight shape of the extrudate, every part of its cross-section must exit the die with the same velocity. Problem is assumed by plane strain UBET-model to analyze it in a simplified way. This has been done by studying the side-extrusion through a two -hole die face. The flow is balanced by determining the optimum lengths of the bearing lands, i.e., those lengths which result in equal exit velocities of the extrudates. Furthermore, the material flow, as influenced by the punch velocity, has been investigated.

  • For the improvement of microelectronic thin film interconnection materials, dielectric passivation effects on the electromigration phenomena were studied. Using Al-1%Si, various shaped patterns were fabricated and dielectric passivation layers of several structures were deposited on the $SiO_2$ layer. Lifetime of straight pattern showed 2~5 times longer than the other patterns that had various line width and area. It is believed that the flux divergence due to the structural inhomogeneity and so the current crowding effects shorten the lifetime of thin film interconnections. The lifetime of thin film interconnections seems to depend on both the passivation materials and the passivation thickness. PSG/$SiO_2$ dielectric passivation layers showed longer lifetime than $Si_3N_4$ dielectric passivation layers. This results from the PSG on $SiO_2$ layer reduces stress and from the improvement of resistance to the moisture and to the mobile ion such as sodium. This is also believed that the lifetime of thin film interconnections seems to depend on the passivation thickness in case of the same deposition materials.

  • A fungus that can capture nematodes by means of sessile adhesive knobs was isolated from rotten wood in Uiseong, Korea. It was found to produce single, spindle-shaped, 3-4 septate (commonly 4-septate) conidia, $44.8\;{\mu}m$ (range, $41.6-50.1\;{\mu}m$) long and $13.3\;{\mu}m$ (range, $10.7-15.4\;{\mu}m$) wide. Conidiophores were found to be hyaline, erect, straight, and $202.7-245.7\;{\mu}m$ high. On the basis of these morphological features, the fungus was identified as Monacrosporium phymatopagum. This is the first report of M. phymatopagum in Korea which can be a potential biological control resource of plant parasitic nematode.

  • In this paper, it is studied that kinematic analysis of a 5-axis ultrasonic inspection equipment. The equipment is comprised of three straight axes and two rotary axes. With features of ultrasonic, the transmitter and receiver of the equipment are vertical to a test surface, operating at regular intervals. To perform this well, the motions of every link should be found on the based of kinematic analysis of the equipment. We chose starting point for testing and defined relations among all links through transformation of coordinates. For double curvature-shaped test object, we generated test paths. To follow these, we found motions of all links using inverse kinematics. By using Matlab/Simulink, simulator was developed, so that we could find out desired trajectories of main axes for a scan.

  • Grouting internally with grout materials can repair the micro-cracks and micro-voids of construction joints more efficiently than injecting grouts from the surface of cracks. A new internal grouting method using perforated bundled-cables was developed in this study to enhance the structural integrity of the construction joints. The extensive experiments were performed to examine the mechanical behavior of construction joints which are repaired internally by the developed method. The tests were conducted for rectangular-shaped box wall structures and straight wall structures. The strength and permeability tests at grouted construction joints were conducted to evaluate the structural behavior of repaired construction joints. The present study indicates that the internal grouting method developed in this study enhances greatly the performance of construction joints and may be efficiently used for the leak-tight integrity of construction joints in concrete structures.

  • As a result of an ongoing systematic study of the genus Phasia Latreille in Korea, we have discovered P. aurigera and P. takanoi for the first time in Korea. We here provide detailed redescriptions and illustrations with their diagnostic characters indicated. Phasia aurigera can be distinguished from other congeners by the combination of the following characteristics: 1) scutum with distinct yellow pruinose spot; 2) male abdominal tergite 5 posteromarginally with V-shaped yellow pruinosity; 3) distiphallus divided into anterior and posterior processes; 4) female sternite 7 short, as long as or slightly longer than sternite 6 (visible part); and 5) female sternite 8 (ovipositor) bent dorsally. Phasia takanoi can also be distinguished by the combination of the following characteristics: 1) abdominal tergites strongly shiny; 2) surstylus strongly bent upward; and 3) posterior margin of female sternite 7 straight in ventral view.

  • Since the material flow near the die part in CONFORM (Continuous Extrusion Forming) process is similar to that of side-extrusion, the side-extrusion model of tube shaped aluminum profiles was studied for the die design in CONFORM process. In this paper, the effects of process parameters in the side -extrusion through a two-hole die face, such as material flow, height and thickness of the tube, velocities of punch and lengths of bearing land were investigated using UBET program and DEFORM commercial FEM code. The optimum lengths of the bearing lands and punch velocities for obtaining the straight shape products required were determined.
