The effects of positively bowed blade on the aerodynamic performance of annular compressor cascades with large camber angle were experimentally investigated under different incidences. The distributions of the exit total pressure loss and secondary flow vectors of compressor cascades were analyzed. The static pressure was measured by tapping on the cascade surfaces, and the ink-trace flow visualizations were conducted. The results show that the value of the optimum bowed angle and optimum bowed height decrease because of the increased losses at the mid-span with the increase of the caber angle. The C-shape static pressure distribution along the radial direction exists on the suction surface of the straight cascade with large r camber angles. When bowed blade is applied, the larger bowed angle and larger bowed height will further enhance the accumulation of the low-energy fluid at the mid-span, thus deteriorate the flow behavior. Under $60^{\circ}$ camber angle, flow behavior near the end-wall region of some bowed cascades even deteriorates instead of improving because the blockage of the separated flow near the mid-span keeps the low-energy fluid near the end-walls from moving towards the mid-span region, and as a result, a rapid augmentation of the total loss is easy to take place under large bowed angle. With the increase of camber angle, the choice range of bowed angle corresponding to the best performance in different incidences become narrower.
This study was conducted to solve the problem of spinach harvesting done by manpower at the outdoor field during the cold winter season. Prototype spinach harvester was designed to dig, pick-up, and collect in a continuous operation for harvesting outdoor field-planted crawling type spinach. In the field test, two types of blades (Type A : angle of $150^{\circ}$, Type B : straight) were used for measuring the cutting loads of spinach and chain conveyor with lugs was used for picking up the root cut spinach. Prototype's vibrating blade reduced the digging power of the fixed blade by $46\%$. The loss was also very little ($0.7\%$) with a digging depth of 4 cm, an oscillation frequency of 748 rpm, and an oscillation distance of 33 mm. The working performance of the prototype spinach harvester was 38 hour/ha resulting to $96\%$ labor cost reduction compared to the conventional harvesting.
The present paper purposes a numerical evaluation of the Thai Long-Tail Boat propeller (TLTBP) performance by without and with propeller boss cap fins (PBCF) in full-scale operating straight shaft condition in the first. Next, those are applied to inclined shaft conditions. The actual TLTBP has defined an inclined shaft propeller including the high rotational speed, therefore vortex from the propeller boss and boss cap (hub vortex) have been generated very much. The PBCF designs are considered to weaken of vortex behind the propeller boss which makes the saving energy for the propulsion systems. The blade sections of PBCF developed from the original TLTBP blade shape. The integrative for the TLTBP and the PBCF is analyzed to increase the performance using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The computational results of propeller performance are thoroughly compared between without and with PBCF. Moreover, the effects of each PBCF component are computed to influence the TLTBP performance. The fluid flows around the propeller blades, propeller boss, boss cap, and vortex have been investigated in terms of pressure distribution and wake-fields to verify the increasing efficiency of propulsion systems.
Straight absorptive silencers have been designed to reduce the noise level of a centrifugal blower. Three-dimensional boundary element method is used for the design of absorptive silencers which consist of a perforated main pipe and a outer chamber filled with fibrous material. The experimental results show that the absorptive silencer reduces up to 8 dB(A) in the overall sound pressure level of the blower and up to 15 dB at the blade passing frequency. It is also found that the gap between the silencer and the impeller may substantially alter the acoustic performance of the silencers. The transmission loss predicted by the boundary element method follows overall trends of the measured insertion loss. The experiments also show that the impact of the silencers on the aerodynamic performance of the blower is minimum.
An axial fan has competitive advantages that can make air flow more straight and longer and produce larger air volume than the other kinds of fans. In those reasons, axial fans are widely used for ventilator, 4D cinema, duct, and so on. But, as it was designed and manufactured without any mathematical analysis or computer simulations, it is difficult to develop the performance of axial fans. Actually the axial fan is designed and manufactured in industry by imitation or traditional method. Flow velocity and volume of axial fan are changed by pitch angle, frame, the number of blade, camber angle, and chord length. In this paper, the performance of axial fan was analyzed and by computer program known as CFD. Finally, we have designed a new axial fan whose velocity and volume is improved. The performance of new axial fan is also compared with the of conventional fans experimentally.

As a core component of a hydropower station, hydro turbines play a vital role in the integration of a power station. Research on the technology of hydro turbine is continuously increasing with the development of water electricity. On the basis of one-dimensional loss analysis, for three-dimension design, there are a lot of dimension of the internal flow passage shapes that are determined by experience. Therefore, the effect of the internal flow passage shapes on the performance and internal flow characteristics of a Francis hydro turbine model is investigated in this study. In this study, the small curvature of runner blade trailing edge shape is good for improving the efficiency of Francis turbine. The straight stay vane leading edge is good for suppressing the secondary flow. Moreover, suitable tongue passage shape and stay vane number improve the performance of the turbine considerably.

The nipple-sharing technique for nipple reconstruction offers excellent tissue matching. The method used for nipple graft harvesting determines the quality of the graft and hence, the success of nipple sharing. Here, we described a guillotine technique wherein the nipple is first transfixed with 2 straight needles to stabilise it. Two No. 11 blades are then inserted in the center and simultaneously swept outwards to amputate the distal portion of the nipple. This technique provides good control, resulting in a very evenly cut base. The recipient bed is deepithelialized thinly, and the nipple graft is inset with interrupted 8-0 nylon sutures under magnification. Being a composite graft, it is protected with splint dressings for 6 weeks, and the dressing is regularly changed by the surgeon. The height of the nipple grafts ranges from 4 to 8 mm. This technique was performed in 9 patients with an average follow-up of 2.9 years (range, 1-4.5 years). Apposition between the nipple graft and its bed is crucial for the success of this technique. When correctly applied, we observed rapid revascularization of the graft.
This study investigates the influence of loading and inflow conditions on tidal turbine performance from a hydrodynamic and hydroacoustic point of view. A boundary element method is utilized for the former to investigate turbine performance at various loading conditions under zero/non-zero yaw inflow. The boundary element method is selected as it has been selected, tested, and validated to be computationally efficient and accurate for marine hydrodynamic problems. Once the hydrodynamic solutions are obtained, such as the time-dependent surface pressures and periodic motion of the turbine blade, they are taken as the known noise sources for the subsequence hydroacoustic analysis based on the Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings formulation given in a form proposed by Farassat. This formulation is coupled with the boundary element method to fully consider the three-dimensional shape of the turbine and the speed of sound in the acoustic analysis. For validations, a model turbine is taken from a reference paper, and the comparison between numerical predictions and experimental data reveals satisfactory agreement in hydrodynamic performance. Importantly, this study shows that the noise patterns and sound pressure levels at both the near- and far-field are affected by different loading conditions and sensitive to the inclination imposed in the incoming flow.
