  • The HKIB, or Hankookilbo, test collections are two archives of Korean newswire stories manually categorized with semi-hierarchical or hierarchical category taxonomies. The base newswire stories were made available by the Hankook Ilbo (The Korea Daily) for research purposes. At first, Chungnam National University and KISTI collaborated to manually tag 40,075 news stories with categories by semi-hierarchical and balanced three-level classification scheme, where each news story has only one level-3 category (single-labeling). We refer to this original data set as HKIB-40075 test collection. And then Yonsei University and KISTI collaborated to select 20,000 newswire stories from the HKIB-40075 test collection, to rearrange the classification scheme to be fully hierarchical but unbalanced, and to assign one or more categories to each news story (multi-labeling). We refer to this modified data set as HKIB-20000 test collection. We benchmark a k-NN categorization algorithm both on HKIB-20000 and on HKIB-40075, illustrating properties of the collections, providing baseline results for future studies, and suggesting new directions for further research on Korean text categorization problem.

  • In this paper, I'll try to read Don Lee's Yellow intertextually with a more canonical text, Sherwood Anderson's Winesburg, Ohio, in order to see what kind of traditions and techniques Yellow references and/or rewrites as a way of tracking this production. Yellow's formal properties as a short story cycle are established through its use of particular conventions. For instance, Yellow follows the short story cycle model that includes the assemblage of recurring characters into one locale. Yellow's characters are all connected to and at some point located in the fictional small town of Rosarita Bay, California. The text form aligns it with established literary conventions and traditions and suggests the author's reliance upon or trust in those modes. Yellow's setting in a small town alludes to and has often been compared to Anderson's Winesburg, Ohio, which is perhaps one of the most well-known and extensively discussed short story cycles in American literature. Also following convention is Lee's construction of Rosarita Bay and the text's third person narrator as a member of that town. Both Rosarita Bay and the narrator become important figures through the related-tale nature of the text. The method of story-telling is similar to how the town Winesburg and its "seemingly sympathetic and non-overtly judgmental" narrator are operational in Anderson's text. In sum, Yellow is opportune for intertextual reading largely because it is a collection of stories that create a linked series.

  • This study examined the trend and aesthetic value of image fashion of the 21st century through empirical case study with image media as fashion communication tool. This research is intended to provide the basic material for both better comprehension of image fashion as emotional medium in the modern fashion and more activated research on interactivity and communication in the fashion communication area by examining how fashion designers deliver their design philosophy, thought and vision via image fashion. For the research method, the theoretical study was realized about image media and fashion communication with focus on related literature and precedent research. Also, the empirical study was performed about image fashion covering 2005 through 2012 by the group of fashion film, fashion animation, and video look-book. Fashion image in the research was developed into various layouts that include the story based or non-story based creative images, many kinds of episode or behind-the-scenes story in the prep course of collection, designer's personal life or product world, or re-cutting course after collection. It also played a communicative role for public relation of new product ad, concept conveyance of seasonal collections, means as online collection to substitute for the existing offline collections, and better understandings of designer or fashion brand. Aesthetic values derived from case analysis of image fashion in the modern fashion of 21st century appeared in the form of trans-boundary as convergence art, fantasy in harmony with virtuality and reality, and interactivity among the humans, image media and fashions.

  • For a long time, popular songs have been our source of happiness. They go along with the flow of the generation, allowing them to acquire a significant meaning. Popular songs thus reflect the contemporary society. However, in the study of popular song archives, there has been an interest only in the information of the songs sung by a singer, the type of songs, and the type of singers. Thus, existing popular song archives were not able to reflect the characteristics of the society of the generation when the songs were popular. Therefore, this paper searched for ways by which to archive not only popular songs but also the characteristics of the society during the time when these songs were famous, and suggested a story collection through the methods. These stories reflect the lives of the people and the characteristics of the society during the periods when the songs were popular. Furthermore, these stories go beyond popular songs, making it possible for us to look dimensionally on the society we are affiliated in.

  • People use diary or photograph for recall-ing their memory in order to satisfy their desires for recording their lives. If the experienced events are organized to a story, S/he can share her/his experience with others, and recall her/his significant events easily. In this paper, we propose a method that generates a story with Petri net and user contexts collected from mobile device. Here, we use Petri-net as a representation method that links human activities or experience causally. It is appropriate solution for modeling parallel events in real world, and for representing non-linear story line. In order to show the usefulness of the proposed method, we show an example of generating a story of user's experience with user contexts from mobile device and evaluate them.

  • The present writers have raised some basic questions related to writing. Do the theses produced in the library and information science field tell our story\ulcorner Are they field-oriented\ulcorner Are they easy to be read and to be a n.0, pplied by the librarians\ulcorner Problems in writing include research theme, research method and writing style. The present writers have a n.0, pplied phenomenological a n.0, pproach to these problems, using the observation of 'Co-workers Team' and interpretation of the 'Term Paper Collection'(vol.1-vol.5). Co-workers Team members consist of professors and graduate students in the Department of Library, Archives and Information Studies of the Pusan National University. We have made some proposals in this paper: First, we should not talk about American story. We should talk about our own story, and go back to basic themes. This proposal is related to the innovation of research theme. Second, qualitative research method should be introduced extensively in library and information science. Third, the strict 'thesis-oriented' and 'text-oriented' writing style should be overcome. The prevalent writing style in our field is so uniform that they are not capable of describing the intricate problems like "our living library".ary".uot;.

The information on digging 'story' was collected through the region's representative local native journal, searching for related websites, analyzing old literatures, and interviewing traditional household; 'telling', the part of conveyance, was organized by reviewing the literatures, including historical condition, regional food materials, cuisine, region symbolism, etc. After nutritional analysis, the prepared, balanced, and healthy Korean food dishes using the traditional food contents were displayed. In Damyang, the story was extracted from Heuichoon Ryu (柳希春, 1543-1577) - figura of Damyang - and his collection, 'Miam's diary', and described about native food. The traditional history of many foods that were used mainly as rewarding during one's trouble, showing good faith, and delivering gratitude is recorded in Miam diary. A little effort has been made to express the classical scholar's clean and neat dining table which was the mixed Damyang's clean image and nobleman's straight integrity in the middle of the Choson Dynasty. Nutrition fact of 'Miam's table' was based on the Daily Reference Values of Koreans aged 65 or older.
