Purpose: This study was intended to identify the patterns of fatigue and its related factors in patients with stomach cancer during chemotherapy. Methods: Thirty participants (24 males and 6 females) were recruited for this study which utilized a longitudinal and descriptive approach. The research instruments included the Revised Piper Fatigue Scale, Symptom Distress Scale, and Linear Analogue Self Assessment Scale. The participants received 5-FU and Adriamycin at the first week and 5-FU only at the second and third week. The instruments were measured six times in total. The data were analyzed using SPSS 17.0. Results: It was found that fatigue scores in patients with stomach cancer, receiving 5-FU and Adriamycin (FA) regimen, reached the highest level on the third day (F=9.37, p=.024) after the initial infusion, and decreased gradually afterward. The symptom and psychological distress scores illustrated very similar pattern. The concept of multidimensionality of fatigue in patients with stomach cancer was supported in this study, showing that all four dimensions of the scale were positively correlated. Conclusion: The results of this study provided useful information of patients with stomach cancer on fatigue and other related symptoms which they experienced during weekly scheduled chemotherapy with FA regimen.
Dang jonghae had written five books on chinese medicine, ${\ulcorner}$Hyeoljeungron${\lrcorner}$ is his most important work. He wanted to correct the fallacies of the theory of Jang and Bu by comparing with Oriental and Western medicine. He distinguished Bi from Cheomyuk by comparing the spleen with the pancreas. He recognized Stomach as the warehouse of foods, and explained that Bi took charge of digestion actually. Bi charged the function of Transportation and Blood-govering in addition to plain digestion, he wrote. Dang jonghae regarded the metabolism of the human body as the interaction of Gi, Blood, Water and Fire. And he explained that Bi adjusted them. He classified Syndrome of Blood into five sorts of syndrome and presented four kinds of treatment. Especially he took a serious view of the treatment connected with Bi and Stomach. He set up the theory of Bi and Stomach practically on basis of anatomy, but he didn ' t assorted the physiology and pathology of each organ clearly. However he proved the importance of Bi and Stomach by treating Syndrome of Blood and provided with the foundation of merging chinese and western medicine.

Effect of artificial illumination on feeding by the rockfish Sebastes schlegeli receiving no synthetic feed in the cage of the Tongyong Marine Ranch was investigated by analysing the stomach contents of 20 individuals every month from October 1998 to July 1999. The fish was found to have fed on naturally available zooplanktons, i.e. Calanus sinicu, zoeae, amphipods and copepodites in October, fish larvae in November-December, nematodes in January, amphipods in February and again fish larvae from May to July. Despite increase in the weight of stomach contents from 260 mg/fish during the initial period of study to 2,173 mg/fish, as many as 70% of the fish were found to have empty stomach during March-April. Weight of stomach contents did not increase with increasing age of the fish. Occurrence frequency was 83-90% for C. sinicus during October-November and >50% for fish larvae during March-April and June-July.
Purpose: This study was carried out to investigate the spatiotemporal localization of the amygdaloid nucleus innervating the rat stomach using PRV-BaBlu, which has been known to be an excellent type of neurotracer with the ability to transpass the neuronalsynaptic cleft. Methods: Ninety Sprague-Dawley rats (250~300 g) that were injected with PRV-BaBlu into the stomach were randomly divided into 3, 4 and 5 day groups (each group n=30). $2{\mu}l$ of PRV-BaBlu, a genetically modified strain of PRV-Bartha with the lac-Z gene, was injected into the rat stomach and immunostained with a mouse anti-${\beta}$-galactosidase at 3, 4 and 5 days after the virus injection. Results: The PRV-BaBlu infected the neurons in the amygdaloid nucleus, and the degree of viral infection in experimental animals showed a tendency to increase significantly with time (p<0.05). The neurons between the left and right amygdaloid nucleus significantly differ (p<0.05). Conclusion: This showed that PRV-BaBlu was an excellent neurotracer for localizing the amygdaloid nucleus, and the amygdaloid nucleus has a sensory input and motor output on stomach movement, influencing emotional behavior.
Cancer pathology reports play an important role in choice of patient care. They provide crucial information concerning diagnosis, therapy options, and prognosis. Professional pathology institutions, such as the College of American Pathologists (CAP), have developed checklists to ensure the presence of all the required elements in reports. In this study, 438 surgical pathology reports of patients with breast (148), colon (147), and stomach cancer (143) were evaluated with respect to the presence of mandated elements according to CAP checklists. The most common missing element in all the three types of cancer was 'staging' (73.6, 53.1, and 56.6% in breast, colon, and stomach cancer reports missed 'staging', respectively). The second most missing element was 'tumor site' in breast (64.2%) and stomach cancer (30.1%), and 'procedure' in colon cancer (29.3%). 'Perineural invasion' was the third most missing element in the three types of cancer (25.7, 17.0, and 22.4% in breast, colon, and stomach cancer, respectively). Only 11.4% of reports included all key elements required by CAP. The use of checklists was associated with higher rate of completeness. This study demonstrates that the key elements requiring the information on the requisition forms from the clinicians are commonly missed, leading to ambiguity.

This study was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of pumpkin powder in the diet of experimental animals on chemically induced stomach and mammary canceers. Three weeks old male SpragueDawley rats were randomly allocated to either 1) basal diet+MNNG, 2) basal diet+MNNG+PMC, 3) 2.5% pumpkin powder supplemented diet+MNNG+PMC, or 4) 5.0% pumpkin powder supplemented diet+MNNG+PMC for stomach cancer experiment. And female Sprague-Dawley(5 weeks old) rats were randomly assigned to either 1) basal diet only, 2) basal diet+DMBA, 3) 2.5% pumpkin powder supplemented diet+DMBA, or 4) 5.0% pumpkin powder supplementd diet+DMBA. In both experiments, supplements of pumpkin powder in basal diet decreased body weight of both male and female experimental animals. Pumpkin powder in rat diet decreased significantly(p<.05) chemically induced stomach cancer. With its suppressing effects on stomach cancer, pumpkin powder in diet of experimental rats had decreasing effects on the initiation and development of DMBA-induced mammary cancer. In conclusiion, current study may provide in vivo data to develop health foods using pumpkin. Further studies, however, are essential to clarify the exact role of pumpkin powder in chemically induced stomach and mammary cancers.
Cascade Stomach is commonly found in obese patients. This study examined the physical factors, such as gender, age, height, weight and level of obesity, associated with a cascade stomach. Over a 12 month period between 2007 a series upper gastrointestinal examinations were carried out on 3,320 people, which included 564 patients with a Cascade Stomach. The results are as follows : 1. A cascade stomach was observed in 564(16.9%) out of 3,320 subjects. 2. A body mass index(BMI) > 120% was observed in 226 of the 564 cascade stomach patients. 3. Among those with a BMI > 120, 63.7% were female, 45.6% were aged between 50-59 years, 49.1% were between 151-160 cm in height and 31.0% were above 76 kg in weight. 4. The symptoms observed in the cascade stomach and obesity groups were subclinical(62.6% and 57.5%, respectively), dyspepsia(16.8% and 17.3%, respectively) and gastric soreness(10.8% and 15.0%, respectively). The incidence of a cascade stomach is higher in those with obesity. In addition, there is a higher incidence in females, those aged between 50 and 59, those between 151 and 160 cm in height and those weighing more than 76 kg. The main symptoms observed were subclinical, followed in order by dyspepsia and gastric soreness. This study showed a strong association between a cascade stomach and obesity. However, more studies will be needed to confirm this.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the lift-style and eating behavior of stomach cancer patients in the Daegu and Kyungpook area, and to collect basic data for nutrition education designed to prevent stomach cancer in this community. The subjects of the study were 102 patients who were recently diagnosed as having stomach cancer at the Kyungpook National University Hospital. The control subjects were 105 persons who did not have any gastrointestinal disease, and included patients from the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and healthy volunteers. The survey, which covered the personal characteristics and eating behavior of the subjects, was conducted by individual interviews using questionnaires. It was found that the stomach cancer patients (case group) had experienced a significantly higher level of stress in their daily lives than the control group. A significantly higher proportion of the case group subjects recognized their personality as pessimistic, and had family histories of cancer, compared with the control group subjects. The cancer patients had higher preferences for salty and hot tasting foods, and tended to ingest meals faster without enough chewing, compared with the control subjects. The level of nutritional knowledge of the case group was lower than the control group, and there was a positive correlation between subjects' nutritional knowledge scores and nutritional attitude scores. Subjects' estimates of their food intake frequencies during the decade before the cancer was diagnosed revealed that the case group consumed significantly higher amounts of pickled fish, soybean paste soup and stew, cooked vegetables, beef and pork, charcoal broiled meat and alcohol, while consuming significantly lower amounts of green tea than the control group. In summary, the results of the study suggest that the stress of daily life, a family history of cancer, and a pessimistic personality might be the risk factors for the development of stomach cancer. Dietary factors which were suspected as risk factors for stomach cancer in the present study included strong preferences to salty and hot lasting foods, poor eating habits, and frequent consumption of pickled fish, soybean paste soup, cooked vegetables, beef and pork, charcoal broiled meat and alcohol. A high consumption of green tea seemed to be a protective factor against stomach cancer. The results of the study appear to provide useful data for nutritional education focussed on the prevention on stomach rancor in local residents.
Purpose: To analyze contrast-enhancement pattern of stomach cancer on dynamic MRI and to verify the efficacy of intravenous contrast agent in the evaluation of stomach cancer. Materials and Methods: Twelve patients with proven stomach cancer underwent dynamic MRI. By using l.OT scanner, we obtained precontrast FLASH images, and 30, 60, 90 second delay FLASH images after intravenous contrast injection. All patients ingested one liter of water and had intramuscular injection of Buscopan just before MR study. For quantitative analysis we measured signal to noise ratio (SiN) of stomach cancer on each image, and signal difference to noise ratio (SD/N) between cancer and intraluminal fluid, cancer and the pancreas. For qualitative analysis two radiologists evaluated lesion conspicuity on each image by grading system(grade 0, 1, 2, 3: poor, fair, good, excellent). Results: SiN of stomach cancer increased gradually by time(precontrast, 30, 60, 90 second delay: 38.7, 42.5, 57.4, 65.7). SD/N between cancer and intraluminal fluid significantly increased after contrast enhancement(l.24, 25.01, 39.30, 45.89). SD/Ns between cancer and the pancreas were 10.5, 9.33, 9.99, 10.66, respectively. In qualitative analysis, precontrast images were better than postcontrast images for delineation of stomach cancer. Postcontrast images showed clear endo-Iuminal side of stomach cancer, but outer margin of stomach cancer was more distinct on precontrast images. Conclusion: Precontrast MR images are better than postcontrast MR images in the depiction of stomach cancer. Intravenous contrast agent is not imperative in the evaluation of stomach cancer.
Background: Stomach cancer is the fifth most common cancer and the third leading cause of death among cancers throughout the world. Therefore, stomach cancer outcomes can affect health systems at the national and international levels. Although stomach cancer mortality and incidence rates have decreased in developed countries, these indicators have a raising trend in East Asian developing countries, particularity in Iran. In this study, we aimed to determine the time trend of age-standardized rates of stomach cancer in different districts of Iran from 2000 to 2010. Materials and Methods: Cases of cancer were registered using a pathology-based system during 2000-2007 and with a population-based system since 2008 in Iran. In this study, we collected information about the incidence of stomach cancer during a 10 year period for 31 provinces and 376 districts, with a total of 49,917 cases. We employed two statistical approaches (a random effects and a random effects Markov model) for modeling the incidence of stomach cancer in different districts of Iran during the studied period. Results: The random effects model showed that the incidence rate of stomach cancer among males and females had an increasing trend and it increased by 2.38 and 0.87 persons every year, respectively. However, after adjusting for previous responses, the random effects Markov model showed an increasing rate of 1.53 and 0.75 for males and females, respectively. Conclusions: This study revealed that there are significant differences between different areas of Iran in terms of age-standardized incidence rates of stomach cancer. Our study suggests that a random effects Markov model can adjust for effects of previous responses.
