Thin stillage and distillers' grains are byproducts remaining after alcohol distillation from a fermented cereal grain mash. Both byproducts are used as energy and protein sources for ruminants. Due to its liquid nature, more than 50% of thin stillage bypasses the rumen. Thin stillage can be fed alone or in combination with distillers' grains. However, a better utilization by beef cattle is anticipated when thin stillage replaces water as a fluid source. Ruminal undegraded protein content of distillers' grains is greatly affected by type of cereal grain and by drying. Corn distillers' grains have a higher ruminal undegraded protein content than wheat distillers' grains while dried distillers' grains have a higher ruminal undegraded protein content than the wet distillers' grains. Wet and dried distillers' grains can replace up to 50% of corn grain in beef cattle diets without affecting animal performance. The estimated NEg of corn distillers' grains for beef cattle ranges from 100 to 169% of that of corn. In general, wet corn distillers' grains have a higher NEg value than dried corn distillers' grains and the addition of thin stillage improves the NEg of distillers' grains. Improved performance of ruminats fed distillers' byproducts can be attributed to high digestible fiber content, improved rumen environment and a shift in organic matter digestion from the rumen to the small intestine.
In the Republic of Belarus as well as in the world acute problem of protecting forests from diseases and pests. The damage caused by root rot is essential, therefore, the problem of forest protection is an urgent task. The biologics has the greatest prospects in according with traditional methods of struggle. Deep method of cultivation of a mushroom Phlebiopsis gigantea with use of nutrient mediums on the basis of ethanol stillage and its components (fugat) is researched. Feasibility of use stillage as raw materials in production of a biological product for the wood protection against root decay is shown. The effect of different additives (sawdust, fodder yeast) on the accumulation of reactive biological product - oidy has been studed It was determined that the deep cultivation using sawdust of the highest accumulation oidy (1.5 $10^6units/ml$). It was also found that the stillage is the best breeding ground for fungus biomass accumulation (7.9 9.8 g / l) versus fugat (6.0 6.6 g / l). On the basis of research work the technological scheme for production of a biological product were developed. Based on the conducted studies, a technological scheme was proposed for obtaining a biological preparation by deep cultivation of the fungus Phlebiopsis gigantea.
Concentrated Brazillian sugar cane stillage was used as a substrate for the yeast biomass production using Candida rugosa isolated from East Africa. At the optimum stillage concentration of 10% dry matter, biomass production was 20.4 g/l and COD reduction rate was 41%. The specific growth rate of the yeast was 0.17 $h^{-1}$ and the corresponding productivity 0.91 g $l{-1} h^{-1}$ in the batch fermentation was observed at $40{\circ}^C$.

Sugar beet stillages were used as a substrate for the production of single cell protein by a thermotolerant yeast Candida rugosa. 3 Stillage substrates were nutritionally optimized for the better production of yeast biomass and for the reduction of COD. The addition of Phosphorus(P) was required for all stillages, but Nitrogen(N) only when the residual sugar remained. The addition of P increased the biomass production to 23-61%. The addition of N increased the biomass production only a little, but when added together with P increased to 90%. The COD decreased to 26-46% when P was added, but decreased to 85% when P was added together with N.
In Korea, naked barley and tapioca are main raw materials for the production of fermentation ethyl alcohol, and one million drums bf 95% fermentation ethyl alcohol is produced per year by use of them. Stillage of alcoholic fermentation is mostly digested by methane fermentation process, and methane gas occured if methane fermentation process is recovered and mixed with fuel to decrease 25-30% for total fuel used in factories. In the anaerobic digestion process of naked barley stillage, supplement of nutrients is necessary to slove the problems caused by inhibitory materials contained if stillage and deficiency of nutrients. Therefore, the objective of this study was to examine why the anaerobic digesters using the naked barley distillery wastewater have shown the poor digestability frequently and how to control it. As the poor digestion was supposed to be occurred by the lack of iron as trace nutrient, the experiments were carried out to find out the optimum dosage and the way of addition of iron and to assess the quantitative evaluation of the type of iron in digesters. Initially, bottle test as batch digesters and lab-scaled continuous flow digesters were used in order to determine the digestion characteristics with tapioca and naked barley distillery wastewater. According to the results of batch tests, the poor digestion was caused by volatile fatty acids and could be improved by adding of calcium. The activity of the methanogenic bacteria were increased remarkably when the iron was added to the digester in the form of mixture with substrates.
Rye stillage was adopted as a substrate for the production of yeast biomass by a thermotolerant yeast Candida rugosa isolated from East Africa. In the batch fermentation, the yield of biomass and crude protein reached 4.9-8.4g/l and 2.2-3.5g/l, respectively, the rate of COD reduction was about 20%. Over 90% amount of main components such as glycerol and lactic acid were assimilated, but protein assimilation reached only to 38-45% of the initial content. Crude protein content of the dry yeast biomass produced was 42-47% and sulfur-containing amino acid was revealed as limiting essential amino acid.

Sugar beet stillages were used as a substrate for the production of single cell protein by the thermotolerant yeasts Candida rugosa, Kluyveromyces marxianus and C. utilis. The biomass production increased in accordance with the increase of pH-value, but protein content decreased. C. rugosa showed the highest crude protein production as 3.68g/l and C. utilis 2.9g/l, Kl. marxianus 2.30g/l, respectively. The rate of COD reduction in stillage versus crude protein production of C. rugosa showed the highest value as 0.35~0.39g/l as a good strain for single cell protein production using sugar beet stillages.
Distillation condensate generated from downstream processing of microbial alcohol fermentation imposes a serious burden to biological wastewater treatment or anaerobic digestion due to its high contents of SS (suspended solids) and TN (total nitrogen), A pilot scale microfiltration of the stillage condensate with a stainless steel SCEPTER membrane of 0.1 ${\mu}$m pore size was carried out to remove SS which was mostly composed of microbial cell residue. A stable permeate flux was achieved when the decanter effluent containing 0.7% of SS was filtered under the conditions of X10 VCR (volume concentration ratio), 2.5 bar of TMP (transmembrane pressure), and 60$^{\circ}C$. When stillage condensate with 2.6% SS was treated directly with microfiltration, VCR below X3 was recommended for a long duration of filtration. The permeate and retentate obtained from microfiltration were recycled to make-up medium of fermentation. Adding permeate or retentate up to 30% of fermentation volume showed no distinguished undesirable influence during the course of alcohol fermentation. Although only slight improvements in the final amount of CO$_2$ evolution and alcohol content were observed, fermentation rate increased so that the required time to reach 450 L/ton of CO$_2$ evolution was shortened to 72% of that with normal media.
Because beverage waste contains a lot of sugar, it can be used as a valuable resource for energy. But beverage waste is discharged through the water treatment. To prevent the waste of the energy resource, we produced bioethanol by using beverage waste in this study. In order to produce bioethanol, we added distillers stillage and NaOH for fermentation condition (nutrients and pH adjustment). As a results, ethanol concentration was 5.92 vol%. In contrast, ethanol concentration of blank (not added nutrients) was low and fermentation rate was very slow. Because components of the distillers stillage help the yeast growth, fermentation yield and rate was improved. Finally, we operated distillation and dehydration process by using fermented mash and produced fuel bioethanol (more than 99.5 wt%). We think that this results may provide useful information with application of commercial ethanol production using beverage waste.
Yeast fermentation at $40^{\circ}C$ was conducted for microbial protein production and COD reduction in three different sugar beet stiIlages by a thermo- and acid-tolerant yeast Candida rugosa isolated from East Africa. The assimilation proceedings of some main components such as protein, carbohydrate, total titrable acids and glycerol in stillages were observed with growth kinetics of the yeast. Most of glycerol and organic acids were rapidly assimilated at the beginning of the fermentation. Protein assimilation was slowly accelerated with the proceeding of fermentation time and its assimilation rate reached only 14.2%-28.4%. Though Candida rugosa was a flocculent yeast, the flocculation characteristics of the yeasts grown in three stillages were different from each other.
