  • The finite schematic eye based on spherical aberration and Stiles-Crawford effect is designed by an optimization method. It consists of four aspherical surfaces. The radius of curvature, thickness, asphericity, and spherical aberration are used as constraints in the optimization process. Stiles-Crawford effect in the pupil is considered as a weighting value for optimum design. The designed schematic eye has effective focal length of 20.8169 mm, back focal length of 15.4820 mm, front focal length of -13.8528 mm, and image distance of 15.7150 mm. When the pupil diameter is 4 mm, the diameter of entrance pupil and exit pupil are 4.6919 mm and 4.2395 mm, respectively. From the data of 75 measured Korean emmetropic eyes, this finite schematic eye is designed first in Korea.

  • The intensity of beam of light entering near the pupil edge is less than when it passes through the center of the pupil, this phenomenon is known as the Stiles-Crawford effect. In this paper, we investigate the variation in the shape of confusion circle when the real amplitude distribution of incident beam in pupil area is shifted to any direction by effects. The shape of confusion circle on the image surface is rotational symmetric when the real amplitude distribution of incident beam in pupil area isn't shifted, and the shape of confusion circle on the image surface is asymmetric as ellipse when the real amplitude distribution of incident beam in pupil area is shifted. The shifted direction of the real amplitude distribution of incident beam in pupil area equals the major axis direction of confusion circle on the image surface. When the shifted direction of the real amplitude distribution of incident beam in pupil area changes from ${\Delta}{\phi}$ to ${\Delta}{\phi}+{\pi}$, the intensity distributions and the shapes of confusion circle on the image surface for ${\Delta}{\phi}$ equals that for ${\Delta}{\phi}+{\pi}$. We know from above results that the influences of ${\Delta}{\phi}+{\pi}$ and ${\Delta}{\phi}+{\pi}$ cases on the image quality of optical system equal.

  • A finite model eye of visual acuity 24/20 in emmertropia was presented. We determined the image intensity profile on retina using optical transfer function of model eye, and compared with clinical data. The retinal contrast sensitivity function based on the Stiles-Crawford effect, photopic response, diffraction, aberration, retinal contrast sensitivity, and pupil size is calculated. Visual acuity for human eye could be predicted by examining the modulation transfer function of a bar target and retinal contrast sensitivity function. This visual acuity was evaluated for pupil diameters ranging from 1 to 8 mm.

  • We discussed the design of lens module schematic eyes equivalent to finite model eyes, which are used to model the human eye based on spherical aberration and Stiles-Crowford effect. The optical system for head mounted display (HMD) is designed and evaluated using lens module schematic eyes. In addition to a compact HMD system, an optical system with high Performance is required. To satisfy these requirements, we used diffractive optical elements and aspheric surfaces so that the color and mono-chromatic aberrations were corrected. The optical system for HMD is composed of 0.47 inch micro-display of SVGA grade with 480,000 pixels, a plastic hybrid lens for the virtual image, and the lens module schematic eyes. The designed optical system fulfills the current specifications of HMD: such as, EFL of 31.25 mm, FOV of 24H$\times$18V$\times$30D degrees, and overall length of 59.1 mm. As a result, we could design an optical system useful for HMD; the system is expected to be comfortable while the user wears it.

  • Hollow core wood flush doors for wardrobes, and other general openings and bathroom were designed and fabricated to investigate the factors causing the bowing of them and to find out the countermeasure for the phenomena. Balance in grain orientation, thickness, specific gravity and M.C.(%) of face panel and symmetrical construction were the essential factors to prevent the deflection of flush doors just after manufacturing. Under one-sided severe service condition, the unbalance of M.C. between opposite face panels is inevitable. So the material as thick plywood with high stiffness is considered as an alternative for the stile. UF resin mixing into PVAc emulsion is preferred for bathroom.

  • A case of Strongyloides stercoralis infection was experienced in a 73-year old Korean female patient, was hospitalized with relapse of cholecystitis. The patient developed cough and dyspnea 17 days after the admission. On the 27th hospitalized day, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain started. A number of parasitic larvae were incubated at $25^{\circ}C$ for 2 days. Typical fork tailed filariform larvae of S. stercoralis (Bavay, 1876) Stiles and Hassall, 1902, were identified after cultivation. There was no improvement of diarrhoea after the medication with mebendasole. After the administration of thiabendazole, however, diarrhoea was stopped. On the 6th day of medication, S. stercoralis larvae was no more detected, and thereafter no larva was observed by repeated stool examinations upto 2 months after chemotherapy. The patient had the history of administration of steroid for articular rheumatism. Therfore this ,case seems to be a hyperinfection of S. stercoralis due to an autoinfection and to be the first report on the hyperinfected strongyloidiasis in Korea. Related literature was briefly reviewed.

  • In this study, a position control characteristics of pneumatic cylinder with transmission line is analyzed. Dynamic characteristics of transmission line using compressible fluid is changed by the flowing stiles of the fluid the diameter and the length of the line. But, the effect of the change of dynamic characteristics of transmission line by the flowing states on the position control characteristics can be neglected because of the friction force of the pneumatic cylinder. So, We assume that the position control characteristics is affected by the diameter and length of the transmission line. The experimental results according to the change of parameter of the transmission line show that the relation between the parameter of the transmission line and the position control characteristics of pneumatic cylinder driving system with the transmission line.
