In this study, the effects of the inelastic shear behavior of beam-column joint and the vertical distribution of lateral load are evaluated considering higher modes on the response of RC OMRF using the pushover analysis. A structure used for the analysis was a 5-story structure located at site class SB and seismic design category C, which was designed in accordance with KBC2009. Bending moment-curvature relationship for beam and column was identified using fiber model. Also, bending moment-rotation relationship for beam-column joint was calculated using simple and unified joint shear behavior model and moment equilibrium relationship for the joint. The results of pushover analysis showed that, although the rigid beam-column joint overestimated the stiffness and strength of the structure, the inelastic shear behavior of beam-column joint could be neglected in the process of structural design since the average response modification factor satisfied the criteria of KBC2009 for RC OMRF independent to inelastic behavior of joint.
Reinforced concrete (RC) interior beam-column joints with high-strength materials: concrete compressive strength of 100 MPa and the yield strength of longitudinal bars of 685 MPa, were analyzed using three-dimensional (3-D) nonlinear finite element method (FEM). Specimen OKJ3 of joint shear failure type was a plane interior joint, and Specimen 12 of beam flexural failure type was a 3-D interior joint with transverse beams. Though the analytical initial stiffness was higher than experimental one, the analytical results gave a good agreement with the test results on the maximum story shear forces, the failure mode.
This paper intends to propose design information with the result or comparing the deformation capacity with different panel stiffness specimens and estimating the plastic deformation capacity, toughness and strength of welded joint connection according to the different scallop types. The test results of the beam to column unit structure are as follow: the non-scalloped and the low stiffness panel specimen have more desirable result values than the scalloped and the high stiffness one in plastic deformation. Comparing the scallop types shows very unlikely tendency as follows, second cracking occurs at the very edge of scallop in the scalloped specimen otherwise cracking occurs bond area of welded beam flange in the non-scalloped one.
Present paper aims at the correlation of modal characteristics of folding fin between test and analysis using an optimization theory. Folding fin is composed of a movable fin, a base fin, and many functional components related to the folding mechanism. Joint parts of folding fin in FEM are initially modeled as rigid elements resulting some difference between test and analysis in modal characteristics. Therefore, some equivalent springs representing joint parts are introduced to improve the FEM model. The springs were set as design variables, while the frequency difference between test and analysis was set as the object function. Bayesian procedure was ujsed for the minimization.

This paper proposes a new topology optimization scheme to determine optimized joints for multi-component models. The joints are modeled as zero-length high-stiffness spring elements. The spring joints are considered as mesh-independent springs based on a joint-element interpolation scheme. This enables the changing of the location of the joints regardless of the connected nodes during optimization. Because the joints are movable, the locations of the optimized joints should be aggregated at several points. In this paper, the novel joint dispersal (JD) constraint to prevent joint clustering is proposed. With the joint dispersal constraint, it is possible to determine the optimized joint location as well as optimized topologies while maintaining the minimum distance between each joint. The mechanical compliance value is considered as the objective function. Several topology optimization examples are solved to demonstrate the effect of the joint dispersal constraint.
The subtalar joint is a complex joint that is functionally responsible for inversion and eversion of the hindfoot. Advances in optical technology and surgical instrumentation have allowed the arthorscocpic surgeon to investiagate the small joints including the subtalar joint. Indications for subtalar arthroscopy include pain, swelling, stiffness and locking. Therapeutic indications include treatment of chondromalacia, osteophytes, arthrofibrosis, synovitis, loose bodies, osteochondral lesions, excision of a painful os trigonum, arthrodesis, and FHL tendinopathy. Contraindications to subtalar arthroscopy include infection, advanced osteoarthritis with deformity, severe edema, poor vascularity and poor skin quality. Subtalar arthroscopy is a technically demanding and difficult procedure that should only be performed by experienced surgeons. With proper instrumentation and careful operative techniques, satisfactory results may be obtained with minimal morbidity.
Although the articular cartilage is only a few milimiters thick, it has surprising stiffness to compression, exceptional ability to distribute load minimizing peak stress on subchondral bone and great durability. In many instances, it help to preserve normal joint function for more than 80 years. Varying in thickness, cell density, matrix composition, mechanical properties even within the same joint, it provides low-friction and pain free-motion. However, it lacks a blood or lymphatic supply and neurological elements are absent. It shows limited healing potential because of poor regenerative capacity.
Recently, the floating slab track that can effectively mitigate the vibration and structure-borne noise is being discussed to be adopted. The floating slab track which is a track system isolated from the sub-structure by vibration isolators. Unsimilarly to conventional track and the slab deflection is large. Therefore, the running safety and ride comfort should be investigated. Especially at slab joint since the load cannot be transferred, the possibility that the dynamic behavior of track and train became unstable is high. Thus, in general dowel bar are often installed at slab joints. To determine the appropriate dowel ratio the load transfer characteristics should be investigated. In this study, dowel bar joint is modeled by equivalent shear spring and this model is verified by comparison with experimental results. Using the proven model, the load transfer efficiency and deflection at slab joint according to dowel ratio, and stiffness and spacing of vibration isolator were examined.

A parallel manipulator has high stiffness and all the joint errors on the device are not accumulated at the end -effector unlike a serial manipulator. These are the reasons why the parallel manipulator has been widely used in many fields of industry. In the parallel manipulator, it is very important to predict the exact pose of the end-effector when we want to control the end-effector motion. Installation errors have to be determined in order to predict and control the actual position and pose of the end-effector. This paper presents an algorithm to find the whole 36 joint error components with joint clearance errors and measurement errors considered, when a link length measurement sensor is used and data more than 36 times are acquired for 36 different configurations. A simulation test using this algorithm is performed with a Matlab program which uses the Levenberg-Marquardt method that is known to be efficient for non-linear optimization.

Simplified formulae for axial and bending natural frequencies of a bellows are developed using an equivalent thin-walled pipe model. The axial and bending stiffness of bellows is determined using lumped transfer matrix method. Transfer matrix method which includes the rotary inertia is used to calculate the natural frequencies for axial and lateral vibration. The result from the simplified formula are verified by those from as experiment result and a finite element analysis. This comparisons show good agreement with the each other.
