남한 치과의사의 북한이탈주민에 대한 고정관념이 서비스 행동의도에 미치는 영향 (The effect of Korean dentist's stereotyping on service behavioral intention toward North Korean refugees)

  • Objectives : The number of North Korean refugees is remarkably increasing nowadays and there are many social and cultural issues related to their settlements in Korea. Stereotyping of group is generally unique and has influences on emotions and behaviors. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship among stereotyping, emotion and service behavior of South Korean dentist towards North Korean refugee. Methods : Questionnaires for stereotyping, emotions and service behaviors were devised based on previous researches. Two-hundred and eighteen Korean dentists were randomly chosen and questionnaires were distributed. Correlation analysis, reliability analysis and primary component analysis were performed. Student t-test and one-way ANOVA were done to elucidate differences according to demographic factors. To examine the relationship among constructs, regression analysis was performed. Results : Stereotyping, emotions, and service behaviors are significantly related each other construct. South Korean dentists' stereotyping and emotions toward North Korean refugees are significantly different from those toward South Korean but service behavioral intentions were not different according to any demographic factor. Conclusions : The results imply that more contacts and education system are necessary to South Korean dentists to change their negative stereotyping and emotions toward North Korean refugees although their service behaviors are not affected at the moment.

간호대학생의 모의장애체험이 장애인에 대한 태도와 고정관념에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of a Simulated Disability Exercise Program on Attitude and Stereotyping toward People with Disabilities by Nursing Students)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of a simulated disability program on attitude and stereotyping by nursing students toward people with disabilities. Methods: A total of 107 undergraduate nursing students attended and completed pre-and post-questionnaires on attitude and stereotyping. The experimental group participated in a simulation exercise program which was composed of wheel-chair mobility and vision modification in Nam-won Rehabilitation Center. The data were analyzed by the SPSS 12.0 program including frequency, percentage, ${\chi}^2$ test and t-test. Results: There was no significant difference in attitude toward people with disabilities between the two groups (t=-.743, p=.459). But there was a significant difference in stereotyping between the experimental and the control group(t=-4.097, p=.000). Conclusion: As the result of this study, we can conclude that the program was effective to improve stereotyping toward people with disabilities.

어머니의 미숙아에 대한 고정관념, 낙관주의 그리고 양육스트레스와의 관계 (The Relationships between Prematurity Stereotype, Optimism and Parenting Stress)

  • The study of prematurity stereotyping is important because the optimal development of premature infants may be threatened by the operation of the stereotape. The study was conducted in which mothers were asked to rate unfamiliar infants shown on videotapes. The infants were described as either full term or premature and as either male or female. Each mother was asked to rate the infant on 23,7-point adjective scales(S-KISS) and to answer several other questionnaires(LOT, PSI). In the study, infants labeled premature were rated more negatively than were infants labeled full term, but infants labeled male and female were rated similarly. The behavioral implications for child rearing as a result of this "prematurity stereotyping" were considered. Correlational analyses revealed significant relationships between prematurity stereotyping and parenting stress, optinism and parenting stress. Optimism effects parenting stress.

세계 전래동화 및 수상작동화에 나타난 성역할 전형성 비교 (Sex-role stereotyping of award-winning and traditional fairy tales)

  • In this study, we investigated characteristics of sex-role stereotyping on 150 award-winning and traditional fairy tales (42 award-winning and 108 traditional fairy tales). The results were as follows: The depiction that female characters were rewarded for skills and competence, not for beauty, appeared more frequently in traditional fairy tales than in award-winning ones. Women were portrayed frequently as docile and passive in traditional fairy tales than in award-winning ones. Also, it was more frequently shown in award-winning tales than in traditional ones that male and female characters participated non-equally in physical activities.

The Color Image and Stereotyping of Women′s Korean Traditional Costumes -A Qualitative Analysis on Stimuli′s Ages, Occupations -

  • The purposes of the study are to find out the effect of clothing colors on perception of stimulus ages, occupations and images using stereotyping and color vision theories. The research method is a qualitative study and materials developed for the study are a set of stimuli and open-ended responses. The subjects were 1138 undergraduate students in Taejoen city, Chungbuk province. The data is analyze using content analysis, supplementary frequency and χ²analysis. The results are as follows : 1) The colors in Korean traditional costumes affected on the wearer's age perception : The red ensemble give the wearer the youngest look while the gray give the oldest look. 2) Mono-color ensemble wearers tend to give older look than bi-color ensemble wearers. 3) The chima colors and the jogori colors have similar impact on the wearer's age perception. 4) On image perception the jogori colors have more impact than the chima colors. 5) The colors in Korean traditional costumes are the clues to estimate the wearer's occupation.

Categorization and Stereotyping Toward Obese Women's Appearance

  • The purpose of this study were to examine how people categorize obese individuals and if they have stereotyping about obese individuals. Twenty-five female volunteer subjects participated in this study. Subjects were undergraduate students in Textiles and Clothing courses at a midwestern university, US. Subjects were asked to give their one-word responses to four statements or questions regarding their impressions of six stimuli. The six stimuli consisted of magazine photographs of women; the magazines were general interest and fashion publications. Subjects then recorded their answers in the boxes for each of the six pictures. As the results, the relevant question as to whether or not more negative attributes would be assigned to the obese model's photographs was confirmed for the Description of Model variable, but not for the Personality of Model or for the Liking the Model variables. There was significant difference in means between the positive and negative descriptions of the Description of Model variable in the direction of negativity toward the obese group seems to confirm that, not only do people categorize others based on appearance, but there was a tendency to favor the average-size group and to view as negative the obese group.

2007 개정 교육과정에 의한 초등학교 과학과 교과용 도서의 삽화에 나타난 성역할 고정관념 분석 (An Analysis for Gender-Role Stereotyping of Illustrations in Elementary Science Textbooks Developed under 2007 Revised National Curriculum)

  • In this study, the illustrations in 16 elementary science textbooks developed under the 2007 Revised National Curriculum were analyzed in the aspect of gender-role stereotyping, and the results were compared with those of the 7th National Curriculum. The frequencies of male and female who appeared on textbook illustrations were counted, and the types of activities and the characters of them were analyzed. Most pupils were found to be active, and female pupils appearing in the textbooks were more than male pupils. In all types of activities for pupils, the difference between male and female was decreased compared with that of the 7th National Curriculum. Male and female pupils were illustrated in learning activities with almost equal frequencies, but male pupils were still more frequently represented than female pupils in other activities. Gender difference in adults was increased and the difference was statistically significant. Gender difference in houseworks was not large, but the difference in outdoor activities was statistically significant. Especially, the jobs of adults were illustrated as male-centered, and scientists appearing in the textbook illustrations were also mostly male.

성역할 고정관념의 측면에서 제7차 교육과정에 따른 중등 과학 교과서의 삽화 분석 (An Analysis of Illustrations from Secondary Science Textbooks Developed under the 7th National Curriculum in Aspect of Gender-Role Stereotyping)

  • 이 연구에서는 제7차 교육과정에 따른 중등 과학 교과서 25권에 나타난 성역할 고정관념을 분석하였다. 전체 19810개의 삽화 중 인물을 포함하는 3549개(17.9%)의 삽화를 선택하였다. 각 삽화에 등장한 남성과 여성의 빈도를 조사한 후, 각 인물의 활동 유형과 적극성 여부를 분석하였다. 교과서에는 남학생과 남성이 여학생 또는 여성에 비하여 더 많이 등장하였는데, 특히 남성과 여성의 차이가 매우 컸다. 반면에 대부분의 학생과 성인이 나이나 성별에 관계없이 적극적으로 묘사되었다. 남성의 직업 유형은 여성에 비하여 다양하게 나타났으며, 교과서에 등장하는 과학자는 대부분 남성이었다.

7차 초등학교 과학 교과서의 삽화에 나타난 성역할 고정관념 분석 (An Analysis for Gender-Role Stereotyping of Illustrations in Elementary Science Textbooks Based on the 7th Curriculum)

  • 이 연구는 제7차 교육과정기의 과학 교과서와 실험관찰 교과서에 제시된 삽화를 성역할 고정관념 측면에서 분석하고 6차 교육과정기의 과학 교과서와 비교하였다. 교재에 나타난 삽화에서 성별에 따른 등장인물의 빈도를 세고, 활동 유형을 분석하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 1) 과학 교과서의 전체 삽화 수는 6차에 비해 7차에서 2배정도 증가하였다. 2) 아동의 경우 학습활동에서는 성에 관계없이 등장 빈도가 대체적으로 균형을 이루었지만, 학습 외 활동에서는 남학생의 등장 빈도가 여학생보다 더 높았다. 3) 행동 특성에서는 남녀 학생 모두 적극적으로 묘사되었고, 소극적으로 묘사되는 여학생의 비율은 6차 과학 교과서에 비해 감소하였다. 4) 성인의 경우에는 남성의 등장 빈도가 여성보다 높게 나타났다. 5) 가사 활동을 하는 모습에서는 여성의 등장 빈도가 40%로 높게 나타난 반면, 남성은 드물게 나타났다.
