  • We proposed the method to present corrected depth cue to an observer by stereoscopic display. It was performed in sequence that designing the displayed space having a constant interval of depth and then defining the object space which had considered to an environment of display and based on computer graphics. Consequently, we had performed a different process of reported existing methods distinctively and taken the result which correctly designed depth cue having linearity whatever various sizes of display would be used.

  • For space weather forecast, it is important to determine three-dimensional parameters of coronal mass ejections (CMEs). To estimate three-dimensional parameters of CMEs, we have developed a full ice-cream cone model which is a combination of a symmetrical flat cone and a hemisphere. By applying this model to 12 SOHO/LASCO halo CMEs, we find that three-dimensional parameters from our method are similar to those from other stereoscopic methods. For several geoeffective CME events, we determine CME mass by applying the Solarsoft procedure (e.g., cme_mass.pro) to SOHO/LASCO C3 images. CME volumes are estimated from the full ice-cream cone structure. We derive CME mean density as a function of CME height for these CMEs, which are approximately fitted to power-law functions. We find that the ICME mean densities extrapolated from the power law functions, are correlated with their corresponding ICME ones in logarithmic scales.

  • Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) are enormous eruptions of plasma ejected from the Sun into interplanetary space, and mainly responsible for geomagnetic storms and solar energetic particle events. It is very important to infer their direction of propagation, speed and their 3-dimensional configurations in terms of space weather forecast. Two STEREO satellites provide us with 3-dimensional stereoscopic measurements. Using the STEREO observations, we can determine the 3-dimensional structure and radial velocity of the CME. In this study, we applied three different methods to the 2008 April 26 event: (1) Ice cream Cone Model by Xue (2005) using the SOHO/LASCO data, (2) Flux rope model by Thernisien (2009) using the STEREO/SECCHI data, (3) Flux rope model with zero angle using the STEREO/SECCHI data. The last method in which separation angle of flux rope is zero, is similar to the ice cream cone model morphologically. The comparison shows that the radial speeds from three methods are estimated to be about 750km/s and are within ${\pm}120km/s$. We will extend this comparison to other CMEs observed by STEREO and SOHO/LASCO.

  • This paper presents an effective representation scheme for the shape analysis of the hippocampal structure and a stereoscopic-haptic environment to enhance sense of realism. The parametric model and the 3D skeleton represent various types of hippocampal shapes and they are stored in the Octree data structure. So they can be used for the interactive shape analysis. And the 3D skeleton-based pose normalization allows us to align a position and an orientation of the 3D hippocampal models constructed from multimodal medical imaging data. We also have trained Support Vector Machine (SVM) for classifying between the normal controls and epileptic patients. Results suggest that the presented representation scheme provides various level of shape representation and the SVM can be a useful classifier in analyzing the shape differences between two groups. A stereoscopic-haptic virtual environment combining an auto-stereoscopic display with a force-feedback (or haptic) device takes an advantage of 3D applications for medicine because it improves space and depth perception.

  • In this study, we propose an information providing and learning system using augmented reality in the exhibition (museum, performance) environment. In a typical exhibition space, a description of a picture or a photograph is provided in a printed matter or a space in the form of an information space (explanatory space), or an auxiliary explanation using an 'audio guide' or a 'docent' program. Augmented reality technology is applied to the exhibition space in the form of a fusion of these methods, and the description of the exhibition is provided to the user in various forms such as text, picture, audio and image, thereby providing stereoscopic information and learning. We apply the augmented reality technology in a specific exhibition space and utilize it as a tool of providing information and learning using image description of pictures.

  • The purpose of this study is to find how elementary students who have different spatial ability affects their understandings on the concept of the rotation of the earth. In order to perform this study, four 5th grade students were picked out of 85 students in Seoul. They had the same conceptual achievement on the movement of celestial bodies but had different spatial abilities. The results of this study were as follows : Regardless of their spatial ability, they understand how day and night are performed, and understand the fact that diurnal motions of moon are related to the rotation of the earth. Also, the students who had higher spatial abilities showed better understanding on the concept of the rotation of the earth and understood the reconstructed concepts in stereoscopic space. But the students who had lower spatial abilities did not fully understand the concept of the rotation of the earth and just memorized them as fragmentary concepts. As for the gender differences, the boy students who had higher spatial ability explained the concept clearly and the others who had lower spatial ability had difficulty in understanding the rotation direction of the earth related with the diurnal movement of celestial bodies. In the same manner, the girl students who had higher spatial ability explained the concepts concretely and the others who had lower spatial ability had difficulty in explaining the concepts by operating them stereoscopically. Therefore, developing teaching methods and studying data and so on, for the girl students, they should be trained to operate the stereoscopic space directly, and for the boy students, they should learn to think over objects with multi-viewpoints. And then the spatial ability on the movement of celestial bodies would be expected to be improved.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop 3D pattern textile design of traditional Jogakbo motifs and fashion products using it. As a research method, first, through literature review, the three-dimensional representation of geometry on a plane with Jogakbo, design cases were examined. Second, through a survey, the purchase perception and design preference of Jogakbo cultural products was analyzed. Third, based on the results of the survey on color and print, the 3D pattern design for each type of Jogakbo is printed, and then textile fashion cultural products were developed. The results of this study are as follows. First, the reason why the public was not attracted to the purchase of cultural products was disatisfaction with practicality, unsuitable preference, price adequacy, aesthetics, and originality. Therefore, it was analyzed that quality, practicality, price, carry-on storage harmony and manageability, as well as aesthetic design were important factors for consumers. Second, the stereoscopic space on the plane expanded the two-dimensional plane space by forming a cube through the division and dissolution of geometry could be visualized using color expression of cubes of different brightness depending on the direction of light. Third, Jogakbo had eight types consisting of four detailed forms and three arrangement methods. The 3D pattern design could be developed through regular disolution and stereoscopic construction using Jogakbo's representative images for each type. In addition, it was found that it was easy to produce Jogakbo fashion products suitable for modern people through 3D pattern digital textile printing applying traditional colors.

  • In the design of stereoscopic clothing items, the 3D shapes of the space between clothing and body (SCB; Space shape between Clothing and Body) can be very important clues to improve the fit for various body shapes. Therefore, this research suggests a method for extracting the shape of SCB using the mold bra cup as an example. The SCBs were extracted from two kinds of 3D images, a small-breasted women's nude breast images and bra-wearing images. The the mold bra cups were compressed by wearing, and the outer and lower part of the SCBs could not be obtained because of the movement of the breast volume in the bras. Therefore, the SCBs could not be applied to the design of the mold bra cups directly. However, the suggested method can be useful when it is applied to stiffer clothing items and body parts whose shapes are not changed easily, such as a helmet or other body protectors.
