This paper proposes an optimal three-dimensional coordinate implementation of the vision sensor using two CCD cameras. The PBVS (Position based visual servoing) is implemented using the positional information obtained from images. Stereo vision by PBVS method that has enhanced every frame using calibration parameters is effective in the distance calculation. The IBVS (Image based visual servoing) is also implemented using the difference between reference and obtained images. Stereo vision by IBVS method calculates the distance using rotation angle of motors that correspond eyes and neck without enhanced images. The PBVS method is compared with the IBVS method in terms of advantages, disadvantages, computing time, and performances. Finally, the IBVS method is applied for the dual arm manipulator on the mobile inverted pendulum. The autonomous mobile inverted pendulum is successfully demonstrated using the center of the manipulator's mass.
Many of the problems by using the microscope are related to the fact that the eyes of the surgeon must be continually fixed to the microscope eyepieces. In this paper, we describe a development of the stereoscopic monitoring system of the stereo microscope for reduced eyestrain or operator fatigue about the long time observations of the microscope. The system consists of the stereoscopic camera part, the stereoscopic image processor device and the polarized light stereoscopic monitor. The left and right images obtained form the two CCD cameras are the same as the eyepiece images. By use of the image processor, the polarized light stereoscopic monitor displayed a real-time stereo microscope images.
As the Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite-I (KOMPSAT-1) satellite can roll tilt up to $\pm$45$^{\circ}$, we have analyzed some KOMPSAT-1 EOC images taken at different tilt angles for this study. The required ground coordinates for bundle adjustment and geometric accuracy are obtained from the digital map produced by the National Geography Institution, at a scale of 1:5,000. Followings are the steps taken for the tilting angle of KOMPSAT-1 to be present in the evaluation of geometric accuracy of each different stereo image data: Firstly, as the tilting angle is different in each image, the characteristic of satellite dynamic must be determined by the sensor modeling. Then the best sensor modeling equation should be determined. The result of this research, the difference between the RMSE values of individual stereo images is mainly due to quality of image and ground coordinates instead of tilt angle. The bundle adjustment using three KOMPSAT-1 stereo pairs, first degree of polynomials for modeling the satellite position, were sufficient.

This paper proposes a modified dynamic programming for finding the correspondence between right and left images. A dynamic programming is based on the intensity of images for stereo matching. But htis method is intended to mismatch at uniformed intensity region. To reduce thd mismatching, the stereo images are segmented to various regions with respective uniform intensity, and the different cost function has applied to the segmented region during the dynamci programming. Cost function costains jump cost. And jump cost included two parameter .alpha. and .beta. which have influence on minimum cost path. Experimental results show that the 3D shape of some stereo pairs cna be finely obtained by this proposed algorithm.
This paper investigates stereo 3D viewing for linear pushbroom satellite images using the Orbit-Attitude Model proposed by Kim (2006) and using OpenGL graphic library in Digital Photogrammetry Workstation. 3D viewing is tested with KOMPSAT-2 satellite stereo images, a large number of GCPs (Ground control points) collected by GPS surveying and orbit-attitude sensor model as a rigorous sensor model. Comparison is carried out by two accuracy measurements: the accuracy of orbit-attitude modeling with bundle adjustment and accuracy analysis of errors in x and y parallaxes. This research result will help to understand the nature of 3D objects for high resolution satellite images, and we will be able to measure accurate 3D object space coordinates in virtual or real 3D environment.
Remote sensing (RS) data show the surfaces of the earth only but cannot provide the shape data of building sides. The proposed method recovers a 3D shape of building sides from stereo images. Its result shows a higher possibility for recovering a large shaped object by overcoming the difficulties of traditional stereo matching techniques. The urban area will be visualized more realistically than the current model based on graphic and vector data.

Existing area-based stereo matching algorithms utilize a single rectangular correlation area for computing cross-correlation between corresponding points in stereo images, and compute disparity by finding the peak in the vicinity of depth discontinuity, since, because of inconstnat disparities around discontinuities, the cross-correlation becomes low in such area. Inthis paper, a new area-based matching strategy is proposed exploiting multiple directional correlation masks instead of a single one. The proposed technique computes multiple cross-covariance functions using each oriented mask. Peaks are detected from each covariance function and the disparity is computed by choosing the location with the highest covariance value. Proposed approach can also be applied to compute disparity gradients without obtaining dense depth data. A number of examples are presented using synthetic and natural stereo images.

In this paper, the method for an effective and intelligent route decision of the automatic ground vehicle (AGV) using a 2D spatial map of the stereo camera system is proposed. The depth information and disparity map are detected in the inputting images of a parallel stereo camera. The distance between the automatic moving robot and the obstacle detected and the 2D spatial map obtained from the location coordinates, and then the relative distance between the obstacle and the other objects obtained from them. The AGV moves automatically by effective and intelligent route decision using the obtained 2D spatial map. From some experiments on robot driving with 480 frames of the stereo images, it is analyzed that error ratio between the calculated and measured values of the distance between the objects is found to be very low value of 1.57% on average, respectably.
This paper describes a depth extraction algorithm in the stereo endoscopic images using adaptive window. First, The relation between the 3D coordinates in the world and the 2D coordinates in the image plane is estimated using camera calibration. Next, stereo matching is performed to find the conjugate pairs in the left and right images. To improve the precision of the matching result, adaptive window which can be varied on the shape as well as on the size according to the area characteristics is used. Finally, the result from the stereo matching and that of camera modeling are combined to extract the real depth information.

This paper introduces a new energy function, as maximum a posteriori(MAP) estimate of binocular disparity, that can deal with both random dot stereo-gram(RDS) and natural scenes. The energy function uses phase-magnitude as features to detect only the shift for a pair of corrupted conjugate images. Also we adopted Fleet singularity that effectively detects unstable areas of image plant and thus eliminates in advance error-prone stereo mathcing. The multi-scale concept is applied to the multi laser architecture that can search the solutions systematically from coarse to fine details and thereby avoids drastically the local minima. Using mean field approximation, we obtained a compact representation that is suitable for fast computation. In this manner, the energy function satisfies major natural constraints and requirements for implementing parallel relaxation. As an experiment, the proposed algorithm is applied to RDS and natural stereo images. As a result we will see that it reveals good performance in terms of recognition errors, parallel implementation, and noise characteristics.
