  • Turbulent flow in a channel with a square rib periodically mounted on one wall is studied by large-eddy simulation(LES). An efficient 3D Navier-Stokes solver has been written for this geometry using a fractional step method and a multi-grid technique. The Reynolds number considered is 82, 000 based on the mean velocity above the obstacle height. Near-wall turbulence is approximated by a wall-layer model based on the turbulence intensity at the grid point nearest a solid wall. The results show a good qualitative agreement with experiments currently available for a single rib, indicating that LES can be a useful tool in simulating complex turbulent flows.

  • The main object of this study is to develop a reliable FEM simulation technique for the analysis of Steel D&I Can bodymaking process using ABAQUS software. The body making process includes drawing, redrawing, 3 step ironing, doming. The newly developed FEM code in this research is based on the previous research achievement of POSCO for the drawing, redrawing and ironing process. The analysis is performed using two dimensional axisymmetric elements to analyze the punch force, the height of can, the distribution of residual stress and strain. The effect of blank thickness, gap of ironing die is also analyzed.

  • Recently, It is gradually raised necessity that thickness of thin film is measured accuracy and managed in industrial circles and medical world. Ultrasonic Signal processing method is likely to become a very powerful method for NDE method of detection of microdefects and thickness measurement of thin film below the limit of Ultrasonic distance resolution in the opaque materials, provides useful information that cannot be obtained by a conventional measuring system. In the present research, considering a thin film below the limit of Ultrasonic distance resolution sandwiched between three substances as acoustical analysis model, demonstrated the usefulness of ultrasonic Signal processing technique using information of ultrasonic frequency for NDE of measurements of thin film thickness, sound velocity, and step height, regardless of interference phenomenon

Numeral information was deduced and quantified effective information from the image. Also, pattern recognition of a defected input image was performed by neural network algorithm. Input pattern of various numeral was composed combinationally, and then, it was studied by neural network. Furthermore, possibility of pattern recognition was confirmed on artifical defected input data formed by simulation. Finally, application on unknown input pattern was also examined.

  • This paper describes the problem of ultraprecision positioning with a ball screw mechanism in the microdynamic range, along with its solution. We compared the characteristics of two ball screw mechanisms with different table masses. The experimental results showed that the vibration resulting from the low stiffness of the ball screw degraded the positioning performance in the microdynamic range for the heavyweight mechanism. The proposed nominal characteristic trajectory following (NCTF) controller was designed for ultra precision positioning of the ball screw mechanism. The basic NCTF control system achieved ultra precision positioning performance with the lightweight mechanism, but not with the heavyweight mechanism. A conditional notch filter was added to the NCTF controller to overcome this problem. Despite the differences in payload and friction, both mechanisms then showed similar positioning performance, demonstrating the high robustness and effectiveness of the improved NCTF controller with the conditional notch filter. The experimental results demonstrated that the improved NCTF control system with the conditional notch filter achieved ultra precision positioning with a positioning accuracy of better than 10 nm, independent of the reference step input height.

  • Recently industry of motor vehicle is making a gradual progress of automotive electric components. According to this step, wire harness equipped at motor vehicle is also increased. The most important component at the wire harness is electric connector. At the manufacturing process of electric connector, exactly at the crimping process, design variables, such as clamping-height, clamping-width and clamping die shape are critical parameters to assure satisfactory harness shape in clamping process of electric connector. In this study we have performed FEM simulation for clamping process and clarified the effect of design variables on compression rate of wire.

  • We report a method to fabricate a large-area metal nanowire-grid polarizer. Liquid-bridge-mediated nanotransfer molding (LB-nTM) is based on the direct transfer of metal nanowires from a mold to a transparent substrate via liquid layer. A metal particle solution is used as an ink in the LB-nTM, which can be used for the formation of metal nanowires. The nanowires have higher depth are preferred for high transmittance. The height of nanowires that we made is about 140 nm. Large-area WGP is fabricated with good average transmittance of 74.89% in our measuring range.

  • High-finned tubes have good thermal conductivity and have better cooling efficiency than plain tubes or low-fined tubes due to bigger air contact area. During high-fined tubes are manufactured by roll forming, the main technique is illustrated to optimizing primary material(copper pipe), optimized die matrix designing technique for roll forming, control manufacturing speed to develop productivity etc. In this study, a roll forming system was developed in oder to produce high-finned tube. Also a multi-step roll forming die was designed & built to produce high-finned tube that has over 10 mm fin height. And then, roll forming test using copper pipe was performed to produce high-finned tube. Roll forming process for producing highfinned tube was optimized by analyzing and adjusting misrostructure, hardness, and surface roughness of roll formed high-fined tube.

  • With the fast Q-tensor method, which can model the defect dynamics in a liquid crystal director field, the nucleation and dynamical behavior of defects is modeled. In order to model the defect, hormeotropic aligned liquid crystal cell with step inhomogeneous electrode which has a height of $1\;{\mu}m$ is used. From the simulation, we can observe the nucleation and line of the defect from surface inhomogeneity and the experiment is performed for confirmation. The experimental result is compared with numerical modeling in order to verify the simulation of the defect nucleation.

  • The adsorptions of trimethygallium (TMG) and arsine (As$H_3$) on H/Si(100)-2x1 surface were theoretically investigated. In the case of TMG adsorption, methane loss reaction, surface methylation, hydrogen loss reaction and ring closing reaction channels were found. The mechanism of As$H_3$ adsorption on the surface was also identified. Among these, the methane loss reaction depositing –Ga(C$H_3)_2$ was found to be the major channel due to its low barrier height and the large exothermicity. The surface methylation reaction is the second most favorable channel. In contrast, arsine turned out to be less reactive on the surface, implying that Arsine surface reaction would be the rate limiting step in the overall ALD process.
