  • Thermo-acoustic waves can be generated in a compressible fluid by rapid heating and cooling near the boundary walls. These phenomena are very important mechanism of heat transfer in the space environment in which natural convection does not exist. In this study, the generation and transmission characteristics of thermo-acoustic waves in an air filled enclosure with rapid wall heating are studied numerically. The governing equations were discretized using control volume method, and were solved using PISO algorithm and second-order upwind scheme. For the stable solution time step were considered as t=1$\times$$10^{-9}$ order, and grids are 50$\times$800. The induced thermo-acoustic wave propagates through the fluid until it decays due to viscous and heat dissipation. The wave showed sharp front shape and decreased with long tail.

  • Two step serial load induction superheater has been proposed using resonance type induction heat method in this paper. Heat method is a type of flowing the electron induction and current to special alloy heater in body from external heat coil with non-contact method. Inverter was a full bridge serial load resonance type and inductor was used as load in LC resonance design to maximize the efficiency. The developed system is a new heat exchanging method combined with electromagnetic induction heater and fluid movement, ana very accurate to control of heating the gas, liquid and evaporated mass, so on without combustion process.

  • In the line heating for the plate forming of a ship's hull, an in line assessment of completion is necessary for an automated production system. In the current curved plate forming process, a fabricated plate is compared to a template that is made in the mold loft and is used for the determination of the heating line for the next step. In this paper, a new method is presented for the in line assessment of completion for curved plate forming. This method uses a 3-D scanner. For the registration of the scanned data for a surface and the target surface, the ICP (Iterative Closest Points) method was adopted. A computer program was developed to carry out the registration, check for similarities, visualize the surface, and control the results. This program was applied to a sample curved plate forming process.

  • A numerical method for analyzing non-isothermal plastic deformation of sheet metals has been developed and sheet tensile tests have been analyzed using a two-dimensional finite element formulation. A modified Bishop`s method is used to solve the thermoplasticity problem in decoupled form at each time step. The accuracy of the analysis is confirmed by comparison with experimental data. The uniform elongation is found is drop by 0.1 to 2.7% at moderate strain rates, while total elongation decreases upto 6.0% during tensile testing in air compared to the isothermal case. The effect of deformation heating, becomes more pronounced as necking develops and at higher testing speed.

  • A semi-solid forming has a lot of advantages compared to the die casting, squeeze costing and convenctional forging, therefore, semi-solid forming process are now becoming of industial interest for the production of metal components and metal matrix composites. However, the material behaviour in the semi-solid temperature range is not sufficiently known although it controls the whole process through forces and geometry evolutions bcause the behaviour of metal slurries is complex. The semi-solid materials(SSM) fabricated under electric-magnetic stirring condition is necessary to be applicate in forming process. A reheating conditions were studied with the reheating time, holing time and reheating temperatures. The microstructure of SSM (which specimen size:d 40${\times}$i60) on condition of heating time 10min and heating temperature 590$^{\circ}C$ is most globular and finest one. The microstructure of SSM(specimen size:d75${\times}$i60) reheated under the three step reheating conditions is most globular and finest.

  • The heat transfer model of ondol heating system is derived in the linear form. The step responses of On-Off controller, PID controller and Position type fuzzy controllers are compared in the sense of several aspects : variation of temperature feedback variable, variation of supplied heat quantity by the boiler, variation of flow rate, variation of thickness of the base, variation of the outdoor temperature.

  • The loss of water in the carbon steel balls and water region of the end shield for CANDU 6 reactor could lead to significant temperature gradient through the end shield structure which amy result in the excessive deformation. With an assumed end shield drained scenario, the heat deposition rates were calculated through the end shield associated with the central fuel channel during full power operation as an initial step to thermal stress analysis. The drained case was compared with that of water present normal case in therms of heat deposition rater and the total heating throughout the end shield regions. The compared results show that the heat deposition and the total heating remain almost the same between the two cases. It was found that the change of volume integrated flux in the end shield regions due to the loss of water contribute a negligible effect on the heat deposition in this region.

  • Residual salt separation is an essential step in pyroprocessing because its reaction products, as prepared by electrochemical unit processes, contain frozen residual electrolyte species, which are generally composed of alkali-metal chloride salts (e.g., LiCl, KCl). In this study, a simple technique that utilizes high-temperature gas flux as a driving force to melt and push out the residual salt in the reaction products was developed. This technique is simple as it only requires the use of a heating gun in combination with a gas injection system. Consequently, $LiNO_3-ZrO_2$ and $LiCl-ZrO_2$ mixtures were successfully separated by the high-temperature gas injection (separation efficiency > 93%), thereby demonstrating the viability of this simple technique for residual salt separation.

  • This paper proposes a ceramic heating element-based tankless instant electric water heater for hand/face washing that does not require a lot of hot water. The heating module, which heats the input water and outputs hot water, operates the ceramic heating element detecting input water using a flow sensor. Inside of the heating module is designed to form one flow path in order to get almost $15^{\circ}C$ increased heated water compared to the input water temperature within 2 second after 1.5 liter per minute water supply. The design validity is verified using a heat flow analysis of the water flow and temperature variations inside of the heating module also. Based on the design data, the heating module is constructed including a single rod-type ceramic heating element. After that, a prototype system having temperature setting function by three steps were constructed. The prototype system is connected to a 1.5 liter per minute water supply line, and the water output temperature and time measurement experiments confirmed that the proposed system output the heated water increased by $18.3^{\circ}C$ in case of third step setting within 2 second after water supply. And standby power is under 1 W and peak power does not exceed the permissible range for the general house usage. Several performance results verify that the proposed tankless instant electric water heater is applicable for the washstand of the house, highway rest area and factory so on as winter-time hand/face washing.

  • Optimization study was conducted for preparation of uncompressed soy protein isolate(SPI) tofu in the aspects of water addition ratio, second heating temperature and amounts of oil and dextrin added. The SPI tofu was prepared without compression step with SPI-oil-dextrin mixture and $CaSO_4-GDL$ mixed coagulants. The data were statistically analyzed by multiple regresstion and response surface methodology(RSM). Addition of dextrin increased the hardness of tofu, particularly for the second heating at $85^{\circ}C$ and 8 times of water to SPI. RSM figure showed that the effect of dextrin on hardness became to be less as the heating temperature increased. The hardness increase effect was no significant except addition of 25% oil and 8 times of water and second heating at $85^{\circ}C$. The addition of 25% oil and $10{\sim}15%$ dextrin and second heating at $90^{\circ}C$ for $45{\sim}60$ minutes resulted hardness and cohesive tofu. The optimal method proposed for uncompressed SPI tofu on the basis of textural and sensory properties was first heating of homogenized SPI-oil-dextrin(100:25:15) with addition of 8 times of water(on the basis of SPI) at $100^{\circ}C$ for 6 minutes, cooling to $40^{\circ}C$, additon of mixed coagulants of $CaSO_{4}-GDL$(0.07 g, 0.0075 g/SPI) and second heating at $90^{\circ}C$ for 45 minutes.
