In order to replace existing slit type steel plate on the wooden structure joint, the FRP-reinforced laminated plates were produced. Four types of FRP-reinforced laminated plates were produced according to the type of reinforcement and adhesive, and before applying to the joint, the adhesion performance test according to KSF 3021 and KSF 2160 and the Compact Tension (CT) type fracture toughness test specified in ASTM D5045-99 were carried out. As a result of adhesion performance test, all GFRP textile, GFRP sheet, and GFRP Textile-Sheet type FRP-reinforced laminated plates satisfied the requirement of soaking delamination percentage with smaller than 5% based on KS standard. However, aramid type specimen satisfied the standard as the soaking delamination percentage of 4.8% but it did not satisfied the standard as the water proof soaking delamination percentage of 70%. As a result of fracture toughness test, the volume ratio of reinforcement to timber became 23% so that the strength of FRP-reinforced laminated plates increased by two to four times in comparison to the control specimen. It was confirmed that the GFRP Textile-Sheet type specimen was most resistant to the fracture most since the ratio of stress intensity factor compared with that of the control increased to 61% owing to the parallel arrangement of glass fiber to the load. As a result of tensile shear strength test using FRP-reinforced laminated plates and nonmetal dowels, it is about 12% lower than metal connectors.
Purpose: This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of the fixture abutment connection type and diameter on the screw joint stability in external butt joint for 2nd surgery and internal cone connected type implant system for 1st and 2nd surgery using ultimate fracture strength. Materials and Methods: USII system, SSII system and GSII system of Osstem Implant were used. Each system used the fixture with two different diameters and cement-retained abutments, and tungsten carbide / carbon coated abutment screws were used. Disc shaped stainless steel metal tube was attached using resin-based temporary cement. The experimental group was divided into seven subgroups, including the platform switching shaped specimen that uses a regular abutment in the fixture with a wide diameter in USII system. A static load was increased to the metal tube at 5mm deviated point from the implant central axis until it reached the compression bending strength at a rate of 1mm/min. Then the deformations and patterns of fracture in threaded connection were compared. Results and Conclusion: 1. In the comparison between the Regular diameter, compression bending strength of SSII system was higher than USII system and GSII system. There was no significant difference between USII system and GSII system. 2. In the comparison between wide diameter, compression bending strength was increased in the order of GSII system, USII system, and SSII system. 3. In comparison between the implant diameter, compression bending strength of the wide diameter was greater than the regular diameter in any system(P<0.05). 4. There was no significant difference between the platform switching (III group) and the regular diameter (I group) in USII system. 5. In USII system, fracture of abutment screw and deformation of both fixture and abutment were observed in I, II and III subgroups. 6. Failure pattern of SSII system, which was the fracture of abutment screw and deformation of the abutment and fixture, was observed in both IV and V subgroups. Fracture of some fixtures was observed in subgroup V. 7. Failure pattern of GSII system, which was the fracture of the abutment screw and deformation of the fixture and the abutment, was observed in both VI and VII subgroups. Apart from other subgroups, subgroup VII demonstrated no bending neither the fracture at the top of the fixture. The compressive deformation of internal slope in the fixture was the only thing observed in subgroup VII.

This paper deals with the development of bonded joints for fibre reinforced plastic (FRP) hull structures using moulding-in concept. Focus is placed on bonded in-plane connections between two adjacent panels that could form the boundaries of hull structural module. Traditional construction in FRP hull structures requires the construction of a mould, usually from steel or aluminium. In this construction the FRP materials are laid in the mould, and resin is saturated, and then the structural member is cured. This is expensive since it involves the fabrication of metal hull mould for every different hull type, which is sacrificed after the production of the FRP ship. One way of encouraging greater use of FRP in ship construction is to investigate the possible construction of FRP hull structures in a similar manner to metallic ships, that is in terms of blocks or modules. Such a manner of construction would eliminate the need for expensive hull moulds permitting greater flexibility in the construction of FRP ships. The main issue then would be the design and construction of adequate bonded connections between adjacent panels. To fulfill this object, the simplified and automated way of manufacturing joint edge shapes for bonded joints is developed, and their structural assessment is performed in both experimentally and numerically.

This paper presents the distributions of the tensile and fracture properties of an alloy 82/182 dissimilar weld joint between an SA508 Gr.3 nozzle and F316L SS safe-end at ambient temperature. Tensile and J-R tests were conducted using specimens extracted from base metals, heat-affected zones (HAZs), buttering regions, and various regions of the weld metal. The results show that the root region of the weld has higher strength than the upper region. The yield and tensile strengths vary considerably within the root region of the weld. The buttering region had the lowest strengths. The strengths gradually increased as the F316L stainless steel weld boundary was approached. The variation of the strengths within the upper region of the weld is insignificant. The fracture toughness of the alloy 82/182 weld metal is less than those of both the base metals and both HAZs. Within the alloy 82/182 weld, the center of weld has a slightly lower fracture toughness than the weld boundary and buttering region, and the root region has greater toughness than the upper region of the weld.

The design phase and safety assessment of Generation IV liquid metal-cooled fast reactors calls for the improvement of fuel pin performance codes, in particular the enhancement of their predictive capabilities towards uranium-plutonium mixed oxide fuels and stainless-steel cladding under irradiation in fast reactor environments. To this end, the current capabilities of fuel performance codes must be critically assessed against experimental data from available irradiation experiments. This work is devoted to the assessment of three European fuel performance codes, namely GERMINAL, MACROS and TRANSURANUS, against the irradiation of two fuel pins selected from the SUPERFACT-1 experimental campaign. The pins are characterized by a low enrichment (~ 2 wt.%) of minor actinides (neptunium and americium) in the fuel, and by plutonium content and cladding material in line with design choices envisaged for liquid metal-cooled Generation IV reactor fuels. The predictions of the codes are compared to several experimental measurements, allowing the identification of the current code capabilities in predicting fuel restructuring, cladding deformation, redistribution of actinides and volatile fission products. The integral assessment against experimental data is complemented by a code-to-code benchmark focused on the evolution of quantities of engineering interest over time. The benchmark analysis points out the differences in the code predictions of fuel central temperature, fuel-cladding gap width, cladding outer radius, pin internal pressure and fission gas release and suggests potential modelling development paths towards an improved description of the fuel pin behaviour in fast reactor irradiation conditions.

To evaluate the mechanical behavior and the compressive stress distribution in high tension bolted joints according to the size of bolt hole, the experimental and analytical studies are performed with enlarging bolt hole size. In experimental study, the static test is performed to measure the slip coefficient, and the fatigue test is also performed to evaluate the fatigue strength and failure pattern of fatigue crack. In analytical study, the compressive stress distribution is investigated by using the finite element analysis. From the result of experimental study, the slip coefficient and fatigue strength of the high tension bolted joints with oversize hole are not much different but somewhat it has decreased. These are because the size of bolt hole is larger than the holes of nominal size, therefore the width of clamping force is decreased and the compressive stress distribution area is smaller, this is certificated in the finite element analysis. In addition, the origin of fatigue crack in the oversize holes is closer to the hole than in the holes of nominal size, consequently it is investigated that the origin of fatigue crack is intimately associated with the compressive stress distribution which is formulated by the clamping force in both base metal and splice plate.

Magnesium has a higher specific strength than other metals and is widely used industry wide due to its excellent vibration absorption ability and electromagnetic wave shielding property. For example, it is used for automobile parts such as car seat frames and cylinder heads, and is widely used in electronic products such as notebook cases and mobile phone cases. In addition, it is in the spotlight as a bone-implant material used to assist in the treatment of damaged bones when the bones are cracked or broken. Currently, Ti alloy, stainless steel and Co-Cr-Mo alloy are used as the implant material, and the Mg alloy remains in research stage. The current problem with bone implant implants is that the patients must undergo reoperation to remove the implants after joint surgery. Magnesium, however, can achieve sufficient strength compared to current materials. In addition, since it is self-decomposed after the recovery, reoperation is not necessary. In this paper, Mg alloys were designed by adding harmless Ca and Zn to the human body. In order to improve the strength and corrosion resistance, the final alloy was designed by adding a small amount of Sr as a grain refiner. The radioactive elements of Sr are harmful to the human body, but other naturally occurring Sr elements are harmless. Microstructure analysis of the alloys was performed by optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The mechanical properties and corrosion characteristics were evaluated by tensile test, potentiodynamic test and immersion test.

In the present study, hybrid moment connections of welding and bar reinforcement for composite beam-column connections were proposed. Concrete-filled octagonal tube and U-section were used for the column and beam, respectively. In the beam-column connection, the top flange and web of the beam U-section were connected to the column plate by welding. However, to reduce stress concentration at the weld joints, the bottom flange of the beam was not welded to the column plate. Instead, to transfer the tension force of the beam flange, reinforcing bars passing through the column plate were used. Four exterior connections with conventional welded and hybrid moment connections were tested under cyclic loading and their cyclic behaviors were investigated. The test results showed that the hybrid moment connections successfully transferred the beam moment to the column. The strength and ductility of the hybrid moment connections were comparable to the conventional welded moment connection with exterior diaphragm; however, the connection performance was significantly affected by the details of the hybrid moment connection.
In this study, a new design method of Pile-Bent structure considering plastic hinge was proposed on the basis of the beam-column model. To obtain the detailed informations, the optimized cross-section ratio between column and pile was analyzed to induce the plastic hinge at the joint section between the pile and column. Base on this study, the optimized diameter ratio of pile and column can be obtained below the inflection point of the bi-linear curve depending on the relations between column-pile diameter ratio ($D_c/D_p$) and normalized lateral cracking load ratio ($F/F_{Dc=Dp}$). Moreover, through comparisons with field cases to find out in-depth limit in which minimum concrete-steel ratio could be applied, in-depth limits ($L_{As=0.4%}$) normalized by the pile length ($L_p$) proportionally decrease as the pile length ($L_p/D_p$)increases up to $L_p/D_p=17.5$, and beyond that in-depth limit converges to a constant value (${\simeq}0.3$).
Bridges in common use are expected to have more varieties of load in their connected members and bolts than in construction. Faults in connection members or bolts occur so often according to the time flow. One of the purposes of this study is to find out the behavior and structural features of high-tension bolted joints with faults that are very difficult and cost much to find out through experimentation with finite element analysis. Another purpose of this study is to provide sufficient data, estimated experimental results, and the scheme of the test plate for an economical experimental study in the future. Surveys of bridges with a variety of faults and statistical classifications of their faults were performed, as was a finite element analysis of the internal stress and the sliding behavior of standard and defective bridge models. The finite element analysis of the internal stress was performed according to the interval of the bolt, the thickness of the plate, the distance of the edge, the diameter of the bolt, and the expansion of the construction. Furthermore, the analysis explained the sliding behavior of high-tension bolt joints and showed the geometric non-linear against the large deformation, and the boundary non-linear against the non-linear in the contact surface, including the material non-linear, to best explain the exceeding of the yield stress by sliding. A normally bolted high-tension bolt joint and deduction of bolt tension were also analyzed with the finite element analysis of bridge-sliding behavior.
