Damages of minarets during Erciş and Edremit Earthquakes, 2011 in Turkey

  • This paper illustrates the damages of reinforced concrete and masonry minarets during October 23 (Erciş) and November 9 (Edremit), 2011 Van earthquakes in Turkey. Erciş and Edremit are townships located 90km and 18km from Van city center in Turkey, respectively. Ground accelerations and response spectrums for these earthquakes are given in this paper. A total of 63 reinforced concrete and masonry minarets are heavily damaged or collapsed in the city center and villages nearby after both earthquakes. Because of the fact that there is no Turkish standard and specification directly related to design of minarets, nearly all of the constructions are carried out by workers using only their own technical knowledge. So, all of the non-engineering reinforced concrete and masonry minarets completely collapsed or damaged heavily. From the study, it is seen that the damages are due to several reasons such as site effect, location, and length of the fault, reduction in cross section and formation of the discontinuity, use of plain reinforcement steel, use of concrete with insufficient strength, existence of short lap splices and incorrect end hook angle, larger mass and stiffness concentrations on some region, longitudinal reinforcements discontinuity, cracks at the cylindrical body, and damage of spire and end ornament. In addition to these reasons, the two earthquakes hit the minarets within seventeen days, causing progressive damage. So, the existing design and construction practices should be improved to provide sufficient earthquake performance. Also, it is recommended that there should be a safe distance between the minaret and surrounding structures to reduce the loose of life after earthquake.

수중운항체에 대한 해중터널의 충돌해석 (Collision Analysis of Submerged Floating Tunnel by Underwater Navigating Vessel)

  • 본 논문에서는 해중터널와 수중운항체의 충돌거동을 파악하기 위하여 두 구조체를 모델링하고 해석을 수행하였다. 충돌이 일어나는 해중터널은 원통형으로 단면을 가정하고 콘크리트와 라이닝강판을 가진 구조로 가정하였다. 충돌부위를 제외한 인접부분은 탄성거동을 하는 보요소로 모델링하고 계류라인은 장력을 받는 케이블로 모델링하였다. 수중운항체는 1800톤급 잠수함을 가정하였으며 수리동역학적 부가질량을 고려하여 충돌질량을 산정하였다. 해중터널에 작용하는 부력은 동적완화방법을 사용하여 초기조건에 포함시켰다. 부력비의 변화와 충돌속도의 변화를 고려하여 충돌해석을 수행한 결과, 충돌에너지의 소산은 주로 해중터널에서 발생하고 수중운항체에 의한 에너지 소산은 미미한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 계류라인의 장력과 부력비의 변화에 따라 해중터널의 충돌거동은 큰 영향을 받았다. 특히 충돌력은 기존의 설계기준의 선박충돌력과는 상이한 경향을 보이는 것으로 나타났다.

CFT 기둥-RC 무량판 슬래브 외부접합부의 횡저항 성능 (Lateral Resisting Capacity for CFT Column to RC Flat Plate Slab Exterior Connections)

  • 콘크리트충전 강관기둥(Concrete Filled steel Tube Column)과 RC 무량판 슬래브의 조합은 거푸집을 사용하지 않는다는 것만으로도 초고층 건물의 공기단축에 상당한 영향을 미칠 수 있다. 뿐만 아니라 기둥의 내력 증진으로 인한 기둥 크기의 축소, 그로 인한 공간 활용도의 증가, 층간 소음문제 해결 등 많은 장점이 잠재되어 있다. 하지만 접합부의 성능을 정확히 밝혀내는 것이 우선 이루어져야 하며, 본 논문에서는 기존에 수행된 CFT 기둥-RC 무량판 슬래브의 내부접합부에 대한 중력 실험과 횡하중 실험을 바탕으로 외부접합부에 대한 실물대 실험을 수행하였다. 외부접합부 실험 결과, 내부접합부 실험체에 비하여 동일한 조건에서 설계된 외부접합부 실험체는 최대 모멘트강도가 $50%{\sim}65%$ 감소하였고, 내진밴드가 추가된 CFT-E2 실험체는 BME 실험체에 비하여 20%의 최대모멘트 증진과 탁월한 연성능력, 에너지 흡수능력을 보유한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 CFT-E2는 내진밴드의 사용으로 슬래브의 휨거동 영역이 확장되었으며 모든 실험체가 설계기준에서 요구하는 0.4V$_c$중력하중 하에서 1.5% 횡변 위비를 만족하였다.

쉴드 TBM터널 상부 지반 연약대 전기탐사 (Electrical Resistivity Imaging for Upper Layer of Shield TBM Tunnel Ceiling)

  • Recently shield TBM tunnellings are being applied to subway construction in Korean cities. Generally these kinds of tunnellings have the problems in the stability of ground such as subsidence because urban subway is constructed in the shallow depth. A sinkhole occurred on the road just above the tunnel during tunneling in Kwangju, so a survey for upper layer of the tunnel was needed. But conventional Ground Probing Radar can't be applicable due to the presence of steel-mesh screen in the shield segment, so no existent geophysical method is applicable in this site. Because the outer surface of each shield segment is electrically insulated, dipole-dipole resistivity method which is popular in engineering site investigation, was tried to this survey for the first time. Specially manufactured flexible ring-type electrodes were installed into the grouting holes at an interval of 2.4 m on the ceiling. The K-Ohm II system which has been developed by KIGAM and tested successfully in many sites, was used in this site. The system consists of 1000Volt-1Ampere constant-current transmitter, optically isolated 24 bit sigma-delta A/D conversion receiver - maximum 12 channel simultaneous measurements, and graphical automatic acquisition software for easy data quality check in real time. Borehole camera logging with circular white LED lighting was also done to investigate the state of the layer. Measured resistivity data lack of some stations due to failing opening lids of holes, shows general high-low trend well. The dipole-dipole resistivity inversion results discriminate (1) one approximately 4 meter diameter cavity (grouted but incompletely hardened, so low resistivity - less than $30{\Omega}m$), (2) weak zone (100-200${\Omega}m$), and (3) hard zone (high resistivity - more than 1000${\Omega}m$) very well for the distance of 320 meters. The 2-D inversion neglects slight absolute 3-D effect, but we can get satisfactory and useful information. Acquired resistivity section and video tapes by borehole camera logging will be reserved and reused if some problem occurs in this site in the future.

콘크리트 충전 강관을 갖는 프리스트레스트 합성거더의 정모멘트 구간 거동 (Flexural Behaviors of PSC Composite Girders in Positive Moment Regions)

  • 콘크리트 충전 강관을 갖는 프리스트레스트 합성거더(PSC-CFT girder)는 PSC 합성거더와 콘크리트 충전 강관의 이중합성작용으로 인하여 구조물의 저항능력을 증대시킨 새로운 개념의 교량형식이다. 정모멘트 구간에서 콘크리트 충전 강관을 갖는 합성거더의 휨 거동은 지간장 4.4m인 2개의 실험체를 제작하여 수행한 실험결과로부터 분석하였다. 보요소를 사용한 비선형 유한요소해석, 3차원 비선형 유한요소해석 및 단면해석법에 의해 예측된 수치해석결과와 실험결과의 비교를 통해 PSC 합성거더와 콘크리트 충전 강관의 합성작용에 대한 역학적 및 구조적 역할과 파괴메커니즘을 비교하였다.

초임계 영역에서 수평관내 $CO_2$ 열전달과 압력강하 (The heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of $CO_2$ during supercritical region in a horizontal tube)

  • The heat transfer coefficients during gas cooling process of carbon dioxide in a horizontal tube were investigated. The experiments are conducted without oil in the refrigerant loop. The main components of the refrigerant loop are a receiver, a variable-speed pump, a mass flow meter, a pre-heater, and a gas cooler(test section). The water loop consists of a variable-speed pump, an isothermal tank, and a flow meter. The gas cooler is a counterflow heat exchanger by cooled water flowing in the annulus. The $CO_2$ flows in the horizontal stainless steel tube. which is 9.53mm in O.D. and 7.75mm in I.D. The gas cooler is 6 [m] in length. which is divided into 12 subsections, respectively. The experimental conditions considered in the study are following range of variables : refrigerant temperature is between 20 and $100^{\circ}C$. mass fluxes ranged from 200 to 400kg/($m^2$.s), average pressure varied from 7.5 to 10.0MPa. The main results were summarized as follows : The friction factors of $CO_2$ in the gas cooler show a relatively good agreement with those predicted by Blasius' correlation. The local heat transfer coefficient in the gas cooler has compared with most of correlations, which are the famous ones for forced convection heat transfer of turbulent flow. The results show that the local heat transfer coefficient of gas cooler agrees well with the correlation by Bringer-Smith except that at the region near pseudo critical temperature. while that at the near pseudo critical temperature is higher than the correlation.

AISI M2 파우더를 이용한 SKD61 재질의 레이저 메탈 디포지션 기초 특성 분석 (Effect analysis in Laser Metal Deposition of SKD61 using AISI M2 power)

  • In this study, AISI M2 powder was selected primarily through various pieces of literature in order to improve the hardness and wear resistance. Among the laser metal deposition parameters, laser power was studied to improve the deposition efficiency in the laser metal deposition using a diode-pumped disk laser. An SKD61 hot work steel plate and AISI M2 powder were used as a substrate and powder for laser metal deposition, respectively. Experiments for the laser metal deposition were carried out by changing the laser power and track layer. The quality of the track surface and cross-section after applying the single-layer method was better than that obtained from applying the multi-layer method. As the laser power increased, the track thickness was increased, and the surface roughness deviation was decreased. In laser power condition of 1.6kW, the maximum hardness of the deposition track was 790Hv. This value was 40% better than the hardness of the SKD61 after heat treatment.

반응표면법 및 다목적 최적화를 이용한 철근콘크리트 건물모델의 모델 개선 (Model Updating of a RC Frame Building using Response Surface Method and Multiobjective Optimization)

  • 본 논문에서는 반응표면법과 다목적최적화 기법을 이용한 유한요소모델개선기법의 절차를 제안하고 이를 저층의 철근콘크리트건물의 모델개선에 적용하였다. 대상건물은 전단벽 신설 및 댐퍼부착을 위한 부재의 강재보강을 통해 내진보강이 이루어진 건물로서 보강전후에 소형 가진기를 이용한 진동실험을 실시하여 동특성을 구하였다. 대상건물의 개선에 사용된 변수는 기존콘크리트, 신규타설된 콘크리트, 조적의 탄성계수, 신축줄눈부의 스프링계수, 강재보강된 부재의 유효강성비이다. 보강전후 건물의 초기모델을 구축한 후 중심합성법에 따라 개선변수의 값을 변화시키면서 얻은 해석결과를 통해 고유진동수의 오차와 모드형상의 오차를 나타내는 2개의 반응함수를 구하고, 이를 다목적최적화의 목적함수로 사용하였다.

  • 철도지하횡단공사는 횡단구조물 축조시 개착식과 비개착식 공법으로 구별되는데 개착식 공법은 열차의 비운행시간을 고려하여 시공하는 극히 제한적인 공법인데 반하여 비개착식은 열차의 속도 및 운행시간에 제약을 받지 않는 특징을 갖고 있으며 안전하고 신속한 시공의 장점을 갖고 있다. 비개착식 공법 중 Front Jacking 공법은 소구경의 강관을 압입하여 구조물과의 마찰력과 토압을 최소화 시킨 후 현장에서 제작한 전단면 Precast Box 선단부에 PC강연선과 유압Jack을 이용하여 박스를 지중에 견인하는 공법으로 시공시 안정성과 열차의 정시성 확보가 유리하여 많이 적용되고 있다. 이 공법은 박스단면의 크기 및 연장, 토질조건에 관계없이 시공가능하며 친환경적인 시공을 할 수 있다. 본 고에서는 Front Jacking 공법이 적용된 대전동서관통대로의 철도횡단 시공사례를 소개하고자 한다.

Finite Element Modeling and Nonlinear Analysis for Seismic Assessment of Off-Diagonal Steel Braced RC Frame

  • The geometric nonlinearity of off-diagonal bracing system (ODBS) could be a complementary system to covering and extending the nonlinearity of reinforced concrete material. Finite element modeling is performed for flexural frame, x-braced frame and the ODBS braced frame system at the initial phase. Then the different models are investigated along various analyses. According to the experimental results of flexural and x-braced frame, the verification is done. Analytical assessments are performed in according to three dimensional finite element modeling. Nonlinear static analysis is considered to obtain performance level and seismic behaviour, and then the response modification factors calculated from each model's pushover curve. In the next phase, the evaluation of cracks observed in the finite element models, especially for RC members of all three systems is performed. The finite element assessment is performed on engendered cracks in ODBS braced frame for various time steps. The nonlinear dynamic time history analysis accomplished in different stories models for three records of Elcentro, Naghan and Tabas earthquake accelerograms. Dynamic analysis is performed after scaling accelerogram on each type of flexural frame, x-braced frame and ODBS braced frame one by one. The base-point on RC frame is considered to investigate proportional displacement under each record. Hysteresis curves are assessed along continuing this study. The equivalent viscous damping for ODBS system is estimated in according to references. Results in each section show the ODBS system has an acceptable seismic behaviour and their conclusions have been converged when the ODBS system is utilized in reinforced concrete frame.
