Recently, steel-timber hybrid buildings have become prevalent worldwide because several advantages of both steel and timber structures are maintained in the hybrid system. In Taiwan, seismic design specification related to steel-timber hybrid buildings remains void. In this study, the ductility capacity of steel-timber hybrid buildings in Taiwanese seismic design specification is first proposed and evaluated using nonlinear incremental dynamic analysis (IDA). Three non-linear structural models, 12-story, 8-story, and 6-story steel-timer hybrid buildings were constructed using OpenSees. In each model, Douglas-fir was adopted to assemble the upper 4 stories as a timber structure while a conventional steel moment-resisting frame was designated in the lower part of the model. FEMA P-695 methodology was employed to perform IDAs considering 44 earthquakes to assess if the ductility capacity of steel-timber hybrid building is appropriate. The analytical results indicate that the current ductility capacity of steel moment-resisting frames can be directly applied to steel-timber hybrid buildings if the drift ratio of each story under the seismic design force for buildings in Taiwan is less than 0.3%. As a result, engineers are able to design a steel-timber hybrid building straightforwardly by following current design specification. Otherwise, the ductility capacity of steel-timber hybrid buildings must be modified which depends on further studies in the future.

In the building construction, the steel-frame work occupies an important position in terms of structure, cost and quality. Especially in Japan, steel frames have traditionally been the main structure of many buildings. For steel-frame works in such positions, this paper investigates an existing steel fabricator to clarify the actual conditions of design decision making process and management method in steel production process. This study focuses on a steel fabricator (Company M in the following sentences), whose main market is Japan and which has facilities in Thailand, China, and Japan. Company M uses QR codes to control the production status of products, and exchanges all information between inside and outside the company via specialized departments in the form of documents. The authors have already analyzed the relationship between production lead time and defect rate based on actual project data at Architectural Institute of Japan in 2016. In 2019, we expressed the process from the confirmation of the design information of the current steel frame to the production by WBS, and clarified the relationship between the production lead time and steel frame product quality structurally. In this paper, the authors reoport the progress of the survey conducted so far, the positioning of the collected data, and the future survey policy.
This study evaluate the characteristics of stainless steel for the use of stainless steel tubes as structural members. The strength of stainless steel tube was compared with that of steel tube stub-columns through tensile experiment and compressed experiment. The selected experimental parameters were diameter (width)-thickness and section shape. The results of tests showed that stainless steel tubes could be predicted as superior to steel tubes in terms of tensile strength, yield ratio, elongation percentage, and absorption ability of energy. The yield strength of stainless steel tubes were found to be higher than the Korean Standards ($Fy=2.1tf/cm^2$) and the design strength of SIJ-ASD($Fy=2.4tf/cm^2$). It was also higher then the yield strength of steel tubes. The plastic deformation of stainless steel tubes was found to beto that of steel tubes.

As one of the largest shipbuilding company in the world, STX Offshore & Shipbuilding currently developed an inventory managing system for steel-plates, which is applied to their steel stock yard. In a traditional way to manage steel yard, almost every work has been done by manually. The manual steel-plate piling process caused some problems such as process delay due to piling errors and the uncertainty of work plan due to lack of information. To solve these problems, we developed an integrated inventory managing system based on real-time crane tracking system which automatically updates steel-plates' piling status. We built the integrated steel-plate database, developed several programs including steel-plate input program, real-time steel-plate monitoring program and steel-yard management program, and constructed hardware system for tracking magnetic cranes. As a result, a supervisor of steel-yard can manage the inventory of steel-plates efficiently and furthermore plan an efficient piling schedule and crane working schedule.
This paper introduces a new steel jacketing method for reinforced concrete columns with lap splice and evaluates its performance by a series of axial tests of concrete cylinders. At first, 45 concrete cylinders were fabricated with varying the design compressive strengths of 21, 27 and 35 MPa and, then, the part of them was jacketed with two-split-steel jackets under lateral confining pressure. The parameters in the first test were the steel jacket's thickness and the existence of adhesive between steel and concrete surface. In the second test, whole steel jackets were used to wrap cylinders with lateral pressure. Also, a double-layer jacket consisted of two steel plates was introduced; a cylinder was jacketed by two steel plates one after another. The effect of the new method was verified through comparing the results of the compressive tests for plain and jacketed cylinders. The steel jacket built following the new method showed good results of increasing the compressive strength and ductility of the jacketed cylinders with respect to the plain cylinders. The thicker steel jackets showed the more increased compressive strength, and the ductility at failure depended on the welding quality on steel jackets. The adhesive between steel and concrete surface reduced the confining effect of the steel jackets. The whole jacket showed more ductile behavior than the two-split jackets. The double-layered jackets were estimated to possess an equal performance to that of a single steel jacket having the same thickness of the double-layered jacket. Finally, the experimental results were compared with the constitutive model of steel-jacketed concrete; which showed a good agreement between the experimental results and the models.
The rotation capacities of the plastic hinges located at beam-ends are significantly reduced in traditional steel framed-tube structures (SFTSs) because of the small span-to-depth ratios of the deep beams, leading to the low ductility and energy dissipation capacities of the SFTSs. High-strength steel framed-tube structures with replaceable shear links (HSSFTS-RSLs) are proposed to address this issue. A replaceable shear link is located at the mid-span of a deep spandrel beam to act as a ductile fuse to dissipate the seismic energy in HSSFTS-RSLs. A 2/3-scaled HSSFTS-RSL specimen with a shear link fabricated of high-strength low-alloy Q355 structural steel was created, and a cyclic loading test was performed to study the hysteresis behaviors of this specimen. The test results were compared to the specimens with soft steel shear links in previous studies to investigate the feasibility of using high-strength low-alloy steel for shear links in HSSFTS-RSLs. The effects of link web stiffener spaces on the cyclic performance of the HSSFTS-RSLs with Q355 steel shear links were investigated based on the nonlinear numerical analysis. The test results indicate that the specimen with a Q355 steel shear link exhibited a reliable and stable seismic performance. If the maximum interstory drift of HSSFTS-RSL is designed lower than 2% under earthquakes, the HSSFTS-RSLs with Q355 steel shear links can have similar seismic performance to the structures with soft steel shear links, even though these shear links have similar shear and flexural strength. For the Q355 steel shear links with web height-to-thickness ratios higher than 30.7 in HSSFTS-RSLs, it is suggested that the maximum intermediate web stiffener space is decreased by 15% from the allowable space for the shear link in AISC341-16 due to the analytical results.
This study experimentally investigates the flexural behavior of steel-UHPC composite slabs composed of an innovative negative Poisson's ratio (NPR) steel plate and Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC) slab connected via demountable high-strength bolt shear connectors. Eight demountable composite slab specimens were fabricated and tested under traditional four-point bending method. The effects of loading histories (positive and negative bending moment), types of steel plate (NPR steel plate and Q355 steel plate) and spacings of high-strength bolts (150 mm, 200 mm and 250 mm) on the flexural behavior of demountable composite slab, including failure mode, load-deflection curve, interface relative slip, crack width and sectional strain distribution, were evaluated. The results revealed that under positive bending moment, the failure mode of composite slabs employing NPR steel plate was distinct from that with Q355 steel plate, which exhibited that part of high-strength bolts was cut off, part of pre-embedded padded extension nuts was pulled out, and UHPC collapsed due to instantaneous instability and etc. Besides, under the same spacing of high-strength bolts, NPR steel plate availably delayed and restrained the relative slip between steel plate and UHPC plate, thus significantly enhanced the cooperative deformation capacity, flexural stiffness and load capacity for composite slabs further. While under negative bending moment, NPR steel plate effectively improved the flexural capacity and deformation characteristics of composite slabs, but it has no obvious effect on the initial flexural stiffness of composite slabs. Meanwhile, the excellent crack-width control ability for UHPC endowed composite members with better durability. Furthermore, according to the sectional strain distribution analysis, due to the negative Poisson's ratio effect and high yield strength of NPR steel plate, the tensile strain between NPR steel plate and UHPC layer held strain compatibility during the whole loading process, and the magnitude of upward movement for sectional plastic neutral axis could be ignored with the increase of positive bending moment.
A fundamental limitation of steel structures is the decrease in their load-bearing capacity at high temperatures in fire situations such that structural members may require some additional treatment for fire resistance. In this regard, this paper evaluates the structural stability of fire-resistant steel, introduced in the late 1999s, through tensile coupon tests and proposes some experimental equations for the yield stress, the elastic modulus, and specific heat. The surface temperature, deflection, and maximum stress of fire-resistant steel H-section columns were calculated using their own mechanical and thermal properties. According to a comparison of mechanical properties between fire-resistant steel and Eurocode 3, the former outperformed the latter, and based on a comparison of structural performance between fire-resistant steel and ordinary structural steel of equivalent mechanical properties at room temperature, the former had greater structural stability than the latter through $900^{\circ}C$.
Reinforced concrete structures are constructed under the basic assumption of perfect bonding between steel and concrete. The corrosion of steel in the reinforced concrete beams results in the excessive cracks and gradual deterioration of concrete. This paper are concerned about the slip characteristics of reinforced concrete between steel and concrete. The accelerated test by external power supply was conducted with the three corrosion rates in the laboratory. As a result, it was obtained as follows: (1) the yield strength of steel was reduced according to corrosion states. (2) the equivalent steel area should be considered for detailed analysis. (3) According to the use of corroded steel or not, slip amounts between concrete and steel in test beams increased as the corrosion rate increased. These results can be explained from the bond loss between concrete and steel in test beams.

The authors have studied on the corrosion resistance of the hot stamped steel sheets for the application to automotive parts. Recently automotive companies have focused on the hot stamped parts to meet the light weighting needs and the safe reason. Because of the cost reduction of the hot stamped parts, automotive companies increase the usage of the coated steel sheets, especially Al-Si coated steel sheets. The coated layer of Al-Si coated steel sheets contains up to 50% of Fe, which was diffused from the steel sheet, after hot stamping. The hot stamped steel sheet was not phosphated due to the oxidation layer of the coating, however, the result of the water resistance test is similar to that of the conventional GA steel sheets. The pitting depth and the weight reduction of the coated layer of hot stamped steel sheets are less than those of GA steel.
