훈증요법을 병행한 말초성 안면신경마비 환자에 대한 임상적 고찰 (The Clinical Study for Peripheral Facial Paralysis Treated with Herbal Stream Therapy)

  • Objective : This study was performed to investigate the effect of herbal steam therapy on peripheral facial paralysis. Method : 33 patients with peripheral facial paralysis were treated with Korean Medicine therapy including herbal steam therapy. We evaluated the effect of herbal steam therapy by Yanagihara grading system and satisfaction measurement. Results : 1. 33 patients were treated with korean medicine therapy and $27.85{\pm}16.44$ times of herbal steam therapy. 2. After treatment, Y-system score was significantly increased(p-value<0.001) from $18.45{\pm}6.5196$ to $35.42{\pm}5.2501$. 3. 87.88% of patients was satisfied with herbal steam therapy. Conclusions : Herbal stream therapy seem to be effective to improve symptoms of peripheral facial paralysis. Further studies will be needed to identify the beneficial of herbal steam therapy on peripheral facial paralysis.

철계 소결 부품의 증기처리에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Steam Treatment of Ferrous Sintered Parts)

  • Mixed powders of Fe + 0.7% C, Fe + 0.7% C + 1.6% Cu, and Fe + 0.7% C + 0.3% MnS were pressed in a mold so that the green-compact densities were 6.3, 6.5, 6.7, and 6.9 g/㎤, respectively. Then, the compacts were sintered at $1125^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes and subsequently steam treated at $600^{\circ}C$ for 60 minutes. From the results, it was found that the overall properties of the steam-treated compacts, such as the weight gain of the sintered compacts, the diffusion of oxides into the sintered compacts, the surface hardness, and the formation of surface oxide layer, were primarily influenced by the density of the compacts and the oxides that were formed on the surface of the compacts by the steam treatment.

제빵용 밀가루를 이용한 스파게티 제조 적성의 향상 (The Improvement of Spaghetti Quality Made from Bread Wheat Flour)

  • 4종의 제빵용 밀가루를 사용하여 스파게티를 통상의 제조법에 따른 경우는 제품의 질적 저하를 막을 수가 없다. 본 연구에서는 건조직전 즉 압출 직후에 스팀증기 처리를 함으로써 스파게티의 질적 향상을 도모하였다. 스팀처리의 시간은 3분이 가장 적절 하였으며, 이를 제조후 건조된 상태에서의 경도 (breaking stress). 삶은 이후의 질적 관찰에서 적정 조리 시간(optimum cooking time). 조리이후의 손실(cooking loss). 견고성(cutting stress) 점착성(stickiness), 전 유기물 정량(total organic matter) 등에서 거의 대부분의 질적 향상이 뚜렷하였다. 그러나 건조후 면의 굵기 (thickness), 조리후의 무게(cooked weight)는 스팀 처리 이후에 감소함을 알 수 있었다. 또 HWW(Hard White Winter) 밀과 듀럼 (Durum) 밀을 주사현미경 (scanning electro microscope)으로 관찰한 결과 전분이 스파게티 표면에서 단백질과 더욱 단단한 결합을 이루고 있음을 보여 주었으며 이는 아마도 전분이 스파게티 표면에 스팀처리에 의한 소수성 막을 형성하며. 높은 노화 작용에 의하여 조리 후 더 낮은 팽윤을 하는 것으로 보여진다.

증자처리에 의한 갈대 식용가능 부위(어린순과 뿌리)의 이화학적 특성 (Physiochemical property of edible tissues (sprout and root) of steam-treated reed)

  • 본 연구는 갈대의 이용 가치성을 높이고자 수행하였으며, 갈대 부위와 증자 처리에 의한 이화학적 특성 변화를 조사하였다. 이에 따른 결과는 아래와 같다. 수분은 무증자 처리 시료와 증자처리 시료 모두 어린순이 뿌리 보다 높았다. 조회분은 무증자처리 시료에서는 어린순이 증자처리 시료에서는 뿌리가 높은 함량을 보였고, 조단백질 함량은 무증자처리 시료와 증자처리시료 모두 어린순이 뿌리 보다 높았다. 조지방은 무증자처리 시료에서 어린순과 뿌리의 함량이 0.67%이었으나, 증자처리 시료에서 어린순이 뿌리보다 비교적 높은 함량을 보였고, 조섬유 함량은 무증자처리 시료와 증자처리 시료 모두 어린순이 뿌리 보다 높았다. 가용성무질소물은 무증자처리 시료와 증자처리 시료 모두 뿌리가 어린순에 비해 2배 이상 높은 함량을 보였다. 유리당 총 함량은 무증자처리 시료와 증자처리 시료 모두 뿌리가 어린순 보다 높은 함량을 보였으며, 유기산 또한 유리당과 같은 경향을 나타내었다. 무기성분은 어린순과 뿌리 모두 무증자처리 시료와 증자처리 시료 모두 Ca과 K의 함량이 높게 나타났다. 갈대의 총 유리아미노산은 무증자처리 시료와 증자처리 시료 모두 어린순이 뿌리보다 높았으며, 이중 serine이 주요 아미노산으로 나타났다. vitamin C 함량은 무증자처리 시료에서 어린순이 61.74 mg%로 뿌리의 4.54mg% 보다 높은 함량을 나타내었고, 증자처리 시료에서는 함량이 감소하였으나 어린순이 뿌리보다 높은 함량을 보였다. Total polyphenol 함량은 무증자처리 시료와 증자처리시료 모두 어린순이 높은 함량을 보였다. DPPH free radical scavenging activity은 무증자처리 시료와 증자처리 시료를 비교 할 때 크게 차이는 나지 않았으나, 뿌리가 어린순에 비해 높은 활성을 보였다.

Methods : 55 patients with peripheral facial paralysis were treated with Korean Medicine therapy including herbal steam therapy. We evaluated the effect of Korean Medicine therapy including herbal steam therapy by Yanagihara grading system. Results : 1. 55 patients were treated with Korean Medicine therapy and 23.27±14.11 times of herbal steam therapy. 2. After treatment, Y-system score was significantly increased(p-value<0.001) from 18.00±6.5514 to 35.00±6.3404. Conclusions : Herbal stream therapy seem to be effective to improve symptoms of peripheral facial paralysis. Further studies will be needed to identify the beneficial of herbal steam therapy on peripheral facial paralysis.

층층갈고리둥굴레 (Polygonatum sibiricum Redoute) 뿌리줄기와 잎의 증숙 시간과 증숙 온도에 따른 생리활성 변이 연구 (Changes of Biological Activities of Rhizome and Leaves of Polygonatum sibiricum Redoute according to Steaming Time and Temperature)

  • Background: The aim of this study was to analyze the total phenol and total flavonoid contents and antioxidant activity of steam-treated leaves and rhizomes of Polygonatum sibiricum Redoute. In addition, we aimed to confirm their potential use as cosmetic materials by investigating their anti-aging and skin-whitening activity. Methods and Results: The leaves and rhizomes of P. sibiricum were treated with steam at different temperatures for different durations, and the antioxidant activity (DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activity) and total phenol and total flavonoid contents of each sample were tested. The steam temperature and treatment duration siginificantly affected the antioxidant activity and, total phenol and total flavonoid content of the leaves and rhizome of P. sibiricum. Treating the P. sibiricum samples with steam at 120℃ for 12 h, yielded higher total phenol and total flavonoid contents. Comparatively, the samples treated with steam at 120℃ for 12 to 24 h showed significantly higher antioxidant activity. Further, the steamed samples of P. sibiricum demonstrated collagenase and tyrosinase inhibition activity, which indicated their anti-aging and skin-whitening properties. The samples steamed at 120℃ for 12 h, exhibited higher collagenase and tyrosinase inhibition activity. Conclusions: Leaves and rhizomes of P. sibiricum steamed at 120℃ for 12 h, showed highest antioxidant activity and, total phenol and total flavonoid contents than all other samples. Our results indicate the potential of using P. sibiricum as a cosmetic material by confirming its excellent anti-aging and whitening activity.

Factors Affecting Stress Corrosion Cracking Susceptibility of Alloy 600 MA Steam Generator Tubes

  • In the past, Alloy 600 nickel-based alloys have been widely used in steam generators. However, most of them have been replaced by thermally treated alloy 690 tubes in recent years because mill annealed alloy 600 materials are known to be susceptible to stress corrosion cracking. Unlike this general perception, some steam generators using mill annealed alloy 600 tubes show excellent performance even though they are designed, manufactured, and operated in the same way. Therefore, various analyses were carried out to determine causes for the degradation of steam generators. Based on the general stress corrosion cracking mechanism, tube material susceptibility, residual stress, and sludge deposits of steam generators were compared to identify factors affecting stress corrosion cracking. It was found that mill annealed alloy 600 steam generator tubes showed higher resistance to stress corrosion cracking when the amount of sludge deposits on tube surface was smaller and residual stress generated during the fabrication was lower.

스팀처리된 소결강의 플리즈마 질화 및 연질화 특성 (Characteristics of Plasma Nitriding and Nitrocarburizing of Steam Treated Sintered Steels)

  • Characteristics of plasma nitriding and nitrocarburizing for steam treated sintered steels were studied. Fe-0.8%C powder containing Ni, Cu were sintered at 112$0^{\circ}C$ and steamed at 52$0^{\circ}C$. Temperature of plasma nitriding and nitrocarburizing was varied from 50$0^{\circ}C$ to $600^{\circ}C$. Gas mixture of nitriding was set at $N_2$ : $H_2$ =80:20 (vol.%), but $CH_4gas$ was added 1~2 vol.% for nitrocarburizing. Steam treatment for sintered steels brought not only the formation of oxide layer but also decarburizing near the surface. Decrease in hardness near the surface resulted from the formation of ferrite due to decarburizing. Thus, the low hardness was recovered not with plasma nitriding but with plasma nitrocarburixing. Wear resistance properties of steamed specimens and ni-trocarburized specimens were better than those of nitrided specimens according to the pin-on-disk wear test. On the other hand, the fatigue life of steamed specimen was shorter than that of nitrocaiburized specimen.

Enhancing Enzymatic Digestibility of Miscanthus sinensis using Steam Explosion Coupled with Chemicals

  • The effect of steam explosion coupled with alkali (1% sodium hydroxide, 1% potassium hydroxide and 15% sodium carbonate) or organosolv solvent (85% methanol, 70% ethanol and dioxane) on the production of sugar, changes in the chemical composition of M. sinensis were evaluated. The steam explosion coupled with 1% potassium hydroxide and dioxane were better as compared with other treatments based on the removals of acid insoluble lignin, and about 89.0% and 85.4%. Enzymatic hydrolysis of steam explosion with 1% potassium hydroxide and dioxane treated M. sinensis, gave a 98.0% and 96.5% of glucose conversion, respectively. These results suggested that pretreatment of M. sinensis with either potassium hydroxide or dioxane could be a promising pretreatment method for glucose production.

A Comparison between the Thermomechanical and Structural Changes in Textured PET Yarns after Superheated Steam and Dry Heat Treatment

  • PET yarns textured at different texturing conditions were treated with superheated steam or dry heat at different temperatures for different times. The effects of the treatment conditions on the thermomechanical and structural changes of the yarn were examined by shrinkage, X-ray diffraction and birefringence measurements. With increase in superheated steam temperature, the crystalline orientation factor and birefringence decreased, whereas crystal size increased. Dry heat treatment had a smaller effect on shrinkage and structural properties in comparison with superheated steam treatment. The additional shrinkage after texturing process was investigated. The effect of heat-setting in both media was more significant at $200^{\circ}C$. The time dependence of the properties was not linear.
