  • SRM drive system is suitable for high performance drive over a wide speed range because of its outstanding instantaneous torque characteristics, controllability and simple drive structure. The realization of high efficiency SRM system is archived by design of optimal magnetic structure, and by development of switching drive circuit. So, this study describes the design standard of the winding number of stator pole for optimal magnetic structure.

Design of New Type Universal Motor Using Soft Magnetic Composites

  • This paper presents a new structure for the universal motor using soft magnetic composite (SMC). The stator for this new type of motor is made by combination of the SMC pole and the silicon steel yoke. The shape of the 3D SMC pole is designed to minimize ohmic loss and amount of stator coil. To design the pole shape, the 3D analysis in the design procedure is replaced with an equivalent 2D analysis. Finally, the optimal shape is analyzed by 3D FEM and the performance is discussed.

  • This paper deals with a design to improve operating characteristic of spoke type BLDC motor. The rotor and stator is redesigned as rounding teeth of stator and pole surface of rotor. Result, cogging torque is reduced greatly. The Finite Element Analysis(FEM) is used to characteristics. The Prototype has been manufacturing to confirmed the validity of the proposed technique.

  • This paper presents a new speed and position sensorless of Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM) based on the sliding mode observer. The sliding mode observer structure and its design method are discussed. Also, Lyapunov functions are chosen for determining the speed and the stator resistance estimator. The effectiveness of the proposed observer system is confirmed by the computer simulation.

  • In general, the noise of alternator is generated by structure of attachment and structural characteristics of alternator itself. In this paper, general phenomena and causes of alternator noise have been considered. Especially, electromagnetic noise source of alternator has been discussed by consideration about the vibration of stator teeth. Also experimental method and simulation method have been used for the proof.

Characteristics Analysis of Suspending Force for Hybrid Stator Bearingless SRM

  • In this paper, a characteristics analysis and calculation of the suspending force of a novel bearingless switched reluctance motor (BLSRM) with hybrid stator poles is proposed. The operating principle and permeance are calculated to find an appropriate control scheme for a proposed motor. Furthermore, a mathematical model for suspending force is derived. Finite element analysis is also employed to compare with the expressions for suspending force. Finally, the validity of the structure and the mathematical model is verified by simulation results.

The sliding mode observer structure and its design method are discussed. Also, Lyapunov functions ar chosen for determining the adaptive law for the speed and the stator resistance estimator. The effectiveness of the proposed observer is confirmed by the computer simulation.

  • This paper describes a basic structure, analysis of characteristics and test method for high speed axial-gap BLDC motor. The newly designed axial-gap BLDC motor has 2-stator disks with 3-rotor disks and is easy to increase power capacity by increasing the numbers of stator/rotor disks. For high speed operating, the rotor is composed of light and strong strength material and has several separated magnets to reduce stress concentraction by centrifugal force.

  • The previous cross type USM(ultrasonic motor) has the stator of cross shape composed of 8 ceramics. However, ultrasonic motor with simple structure has the stator composed of only 4 ceramics. Principle of the motor is to apply alternative voltages which have 90 phase difference to attached ceramics, and then elliptical displacement is generated at four edges of elastic body. Characteristics of the motor were simulated by FEM(finite element method). The parameters were size of the stator and thickness of the ceramics. According to FEM results, driving frequency of motor is defined at 28 [kHz]. On the contrary, driving frequency of fabricated motor is defined at 26.8 [kHz] and then, experimental results were compared with FEM results at the frequency. As a result, elliptical displacement and speed of USM increased linearly with increasing applied voltage.

  • The cogging torque is important to the cut-in wind speed. And, it causes the acoustic noise and the vibration on the machine. This paper presents a 3D FEA(Finite Element Analysis) to evaluate the effect of magnet skew and stator displacement on cogging torque reduction, for double core AFPM(Axial Flux Permanent Magnet) generator. As a result, the magnet skew and the stator side displacement are proved excellent techniques to reduce the cogging torque.
