  • This paper reports an investigation of concentrations major carcinogenic indoor air pollutants for radon, formaldehyde, and asbestos in the 83 subway stations in the Seoul metropolitan area during November 1991~September 1992. Mean concentrations of indoor pollutants in Seoul subway stations surveyed were 0.23 ppb for formaldehyde, 1.12 pCi/l for radon, and 0.008 fiber/cc for asbestos. Mean formaldehyde concentrations in 83 subway stations were below the U.S. EPA formaldehyde standard (100 ppb), whereas mean concentrations of radon and asbestos in 2% and 22% of total sampled subway stations exceeded the U.S. radon (4 pCi/l) and asbestos (0.01 fiber/cc) standand, respectively. It is likely that possible sources for radon and asbestos are radon intrusion from the leaking underground water and construction materials, respectively.

  • Hourly ozone data are available for 73 stations in South Korea from January, 1988 to August, 1998. We are interested in detecting trends in both the mean levels and the extremes of ozone, and in determining how these trends vary over the country. The latter aspect means that we also have to understand the spatial dependence of ozone. In this connection, therefore, we examine in this paper the following features: determining trends in mean ozone levels at individual stations and combination across stations; determining trends in extreme ozone levels at individual stations and combination across stations; spatial modeling of trends in mean and extreme ozone levels.

  • The Ministry of Construction and Transportation is going to establish 310 groundwater monitoring stations. 154 stations have been established and periodically managed since 1995. Most of stations have two monitoring boreholes which function is to monitor the unconsolidated and bedrock aquifer, and have the automatic monitoring equipment to observe groundwater level, temperature and hydraulic conductivity which are measured four times a day. Especially 44 stations are equipped with the Remote Terminal Unit. MOCT publish "an annual report of Groundwater monitoring stations" every year and everyone can get the monitoring data from Groundwater World web site(http://wamis.kowaco.or.kr/gww/)..kr/gww/).

  • The monitoring efficiency of the aircraft noise monitoring stations is decided to the reference noise level and the infringement of each monitoring stations. We calcurates the monitoring efficiency of three noise monitoring station among twelve in the vicinity of Gimpo Int'l Airport. As a result, the monitoring efficiency shows that the noise monitoring stations No#3, No#5 and No#6 are 14.3%, 18.5% and 29.3% respectively, Among them No#6 staion looks higher efficiency than another two stations because of underneath the flight trackas.

  • Mobile stations can be classified by the transmission power level in CDMA system. Different performance parameters will be given to each class of mobile stations so that the appropriate quality ofservices can be provided. In this paper, it is assumed that there are two clsses of mobile stations. with the classification of mobile stations, analytical models are presented for the estimates of the reverse link capacity and the blocking probability. From the model for the reverse link capacity, the maximum number of each class of mobile stations to be served is derived. It is shown that $E_{b/}$I reduction of 1 dB allows the capacity to be increased by 25% and the data transmission rate and the power control accuracy have a significant effect on the reverse link capacity and the blocking probability. Simulation results are provided for validating the anlaytical estimates of the blocking probability.ocking probability.y.

  • The electric facilities for subway stations require reliable and safe electricity in spite of their load increases rapidly. Nevertheless, Korea Electrical Safety Corporation reports that the accidents of independent electric facilities increased greatly from 4,632 cases in 1998 to 6,024 in 1999 and 6,776 cases in 2000, while the ratio of the accidents related with transformers grew gradually. As it is, it is deemed very important to minimize the spreading effects of the electric system accidents and thereby, enhance reliability of the electric supply as well as its safety. According to the fact that the electric facilities for subway stations are important for the public safety and conveniences, it should be careful to set their capacity instead of simply applying the general capacity standard to them, and thereby, improve their economy as well as prevent their accidents. With such a basic conception in mind, this study is aimed at analyzing the characteristics of the electric load in the subway stations and thereupon, suggesting some guidelines for setting of the electric facility capacity for subway stations in terms of optimal operation and safety.

  • In this paper, downlink capacity of time duplex division (TDD) based cellular wireless networks utilizing fixed hopping stations is investigated. In the network, a number of fixed subscriber stations act as hopping transmission stations between base stations and far away subscribers, forming a cellular and ad hoc mobile network model. At the radio layer, TDD code division multiple access (CDMA) is selected as the radio interface due to high efficiency of frequency usage. In order to improve the system performance in terms of downlink capacity, we propose different time slot allocation schemes with the usage of fixed hopping stations, which can be selected by either random or distanced dependent schemes. Performance results obtained by computer simulation demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed network to improve downlink system capacity.

  • Due to lack of hydrogen charging stations and hydrogen supply compared to the supply of hydrogen vehicles, social phenomena such as 2-hour queues and restrictions on charging capacity are occurring, which negatively affects the spread of hydrogen vehicles. In order to resolve these problems, it is essential to have a strategic operation of the hydrogen charging stations. To establish operational strategies, it is necessary to derive customer demand patterns and characteristics through the analysis of sales data. This study derived the demand patterns and characteristics of customers visiting hydrogen charging stations through data analysis from various perspectives, such as charging volume, charging speed, number of visits, and correlation with external factors, based on the hydrogen sales data of off-site hydrogen charging stations located in domestic residential areas.

  • Wide-Area Differential Global Positioning System (WADGPS) is a system that operates a number of reference stations to provide correction information to improve the accuracy of GPS users, and it is available to service users within the area where the wide-area reference stations are installed. Recently, as positioning information has been used in various applications, the need for WADGPS for precise navigation in long-distance spaced areas where the wide-area reference stations cannot be installed has been raised. This paper tested the user navigation performance outside the wide-area reference stations of the WADGPS system, which serves both GPS Precise Positioning Service (PPS) and Standard Positioning Service (SPS) users. Static and dynamic tests were conducted using vehicles, and as a result, position accuracy improvement through WADGPS was confirmed even at points hundreds of kilometers outside the network area of the wide-area reference stations. Through this, the performance of the PPS/SPS correction system and the possibility of expanding the service area were confirmed.
