  • The present study describes the methods and standards for the combustion stability assessment of a thrust chamber and a gas generator as parts of a liquid rocket engine. The first method uses a statistical approach through typical static combustion tests and the second one a dynamic assessment identifying decaying characteristics of pressure fluctuations excited by a pulse generating device. Based on accumulated test results, it is concluded that the maximal values for combustion stability are 3% of a chamber static pressure with a Root-Mean-Square value of pressure fluctuations, and 10 msec with a decay time.

  • In this study, static and dynamic stability estimations on the diecutter with finite element modelling were carried out to be creased and cut away printed sheet exactly. To cut away the sheet exactly, the large force should be pressured on diecutter. And which affects not only the quality of produced sheets but also the stability of diecutter. The analyses with and without the tare of diecutter were carried out with NASTRAN software on applying 400 ton force to its top and moving table respectively. It was known that maximum von-Mises stress of 221 Mpa in diecutter was occurred at the toggle, and it was smaller than the yield stress of 280 Mpa. And maximum deformation of 0.75 mm was occurred at the top table. The natural frequencies of 41, 102, 108, 115, and 134 Hz for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th mode, which had been determined by numerical simulation, were not coincided with the max. speeds of motor and moving table of 29 and 2 Hz. And which was verified by vibration test. Therefore it may be estimated that the structure of the diecutter is statically and dynamically stable.

  • In this study, seismic verification of the bellows used in the plant field was conducted. The pressure used in the analysis was analyzed by applying the design pressure of 15.7bar. For the seismic analysis, the natural frequency of the bellows system was obtained and the stability of the system was evaluated by static seismic analysis comparing the lowest order natural frequency with the dominant frequency of 33 Hz. The material of the bellows system is STS304, and the safety factor is obtained in comparison with the allowable stress. For the seismic analysis, the design response spectrum was prepared and the maximum acceleration was applied to the static seismic analysis and the stability of the entire system was confirmed. Compared to the structural analysis results, the maximum stress of the bellows system increased by about 16.4% and the maximum strain increased by about 3 times when seismic analysis was performed.

  • This paper presents research on the stability of control for a quadruped robot with two different leg structure designs. The focus of the research is on the design and analysis of the leg structures in terms of their impact on the stability and robustness of the robot's motion. First, a static analysis was performed in the simulation to compare the structural strength of the legs when the same force was applied. Secondly, two quadruped robots were built, each equipped with differently designed legs, and performed trot gait walking in the real world. And the states of the robots and the torques of each joint were analyzed and compared. In conclusion, based on the results of structural analysis in simulation and the actual walking experiments with the robots, it was demonstrated that the legs designed to be structurally robust improved the control stability of the quadruped robot.

  • In Korea, there are many regulations and cases for horizontal seismic coefficient to pseudo-static analysis of slope, but there are insufficient regulations and cases for vertical seismic coefficient. Therefore, geological investigation and laboratory tests were conducted to analyze the effect of the vertical seismic coefficient on slope stability, and pseudo-static analyses based on infinite slope stability analysis were performed by using those results. As a result, if the earthquake magnitude is less than M 5.0, the effect of the vertical seismic coefficient is not significant, and if the earthquake magnitude is more than M 6.0, the vertical seismic coefficient largely increases the unstable areas of Fs ≤ 1.1. These tendency is more distinct in rainfall condition than without rainfall condition.

  • In this paper, we give some results on the stability of f-harmonic maps with potential from or into spheres and any Riemannian manifold. We study the constant boundary-value problems of such maps defined on a specific Cartan-Hadamard manifolds, and obtain a Liouville-type theorem. It can also be applied to the static Landau-Lifshitz equations. We also prove a Liouville theorem for f-harmonic maps with finite f-energy or slowly divergent f-energy.

  • A method to predict the dynamic roll stability of hard-chine planing craft is presented. Starting with the equation of motion, an equation governing small roll perturbations is developed. The roll restoring moment acting on the hull is evaluated by considering “static”and dynamic contributions. The contribution of rudders and skegs, which is significant for this type of craft, is also determined. A worked example is presented to show how the method can be used to find the maximum center of gravity height for transverse stability.

  • In daily activities, people often perform two or more tasks simultaneously. This is referred to as dual-tasking or multi-tasking. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of performing dual tasks while using a mobile phone on static and dynamic postural stability. Twenty-four subjects were asked to stand on a force plate and then instructed to perform a balance task only (BT), a balance task while listening to music (BTL), a balance task while talking on the mobile phone (BTT), and a balance task while sending text messages (BTS). We used the BioRescue$^{(R)}$ to measure postural sway and limit of stability for static and dynamic postural stability. Also the star excursion balance test (SEBT) was used to measure dynamic postural stability. A one-way ANOVA with repeated measures was used to compare the effects of the BT, BTL, BTT, and BTS. The Bonferroni's post hoc test was used to determine the differences among four tasks. Carrying out the BTS significantly decreased the limit of stability compared with carrying out the BT, BTL, and BTT (p<.05). In limit of stability, total surface area of BTT was more significantly decreased than that of BT and total surface area of BTS was more decreased than that of BT, BTL and BTT (p<.05). In the SEBT, the BTS displayed significantly smaller reach distance values compared with the BT or BTL (p<.05). These findings suggest that performing the balance task while sending text message on the mobile phone decreases dynamic postural stability, whereas performing the same task while listening to music using the mobile phone does not. Therefore, it requires more attention to maintain dynamic balance while sending text messages.

  • The power transfer capability has been recently highlighted as a key issue in many utilities with the power system more stressed and heavy loaded. The total transfer capability in the KEPCO power system is determined mainly by the voltage stability limit and many approaches for enhancement of the total transfer capability has been consistently performed. In this paper, a new transfer capability index to locate the STATCOM(Static Synchronous Compensator) effectively for enhancing the total transfer capability from a static voltage stability viewpoint is presented and it is applied to a small scale power system of IEEE 39-bus test system in order to show the effects of this index. In addition, the effect of transient stability as well as voltage stability to the total transfer capability when loads are increased is analyzed using this small scale power system.

  • To ensure the transient stability of power system connected to a wind farm, wind power plant must be able to supply reactive power at the point of the common coupling(PCC). The reactive power capability of each individual wind turbine may not sufficient to maintain stability. Also, there are large reactive power losses in connection cables between wind farm and PCC. The static synchronous compensator(STATCOM) is considered for transient stability enhancement, because it provides many advantages such as the fast response time and superior reactive power support capability. In this paper, the effectiveness of a STATCOM in enhancing transient stability of power system connected to a wind farm is presented. The results of dynamic simulations show that STATCOM installed at the PCC can enhance transient stability.
