An analytical method is proposed for the evaluation of the static response of a prestresse-dribbon concrete pedestrian bridge, which may also be applied for the roofing of large areas. On the basis of an established analogy with a suspension bridge system, a procedure is presented for the prestresse-dribbon direct analysis, leading to the introduction of two dimensionless parameters as governing factors of the design, namely the thinness and the prestressing steel ratio. The exposed procedure, applied by a simple computer program, allows a quick evaluation of the response and permits the investigation of the influence of the aforementioned parameters on it, by means of comprehensive diagrams. The presented diagrams may be directly used for the preliminary design of a pedestrian bridge of this type, for the whole practical range of span lengths. A design example is also included, showing the applicability of the proposed procedure.
Generally, the chassis of an indoor RAC is composed of a rear-guider and a stabilizer. The aerodynamic performance of a cross-flow fan is strongly influenced by the various design factors of the chassis of an indoor RAC. The purpose of this paper is to select the optimum design factors through the aerodynamic performance of a cross-flow fan. The design factors are the leading angle of a rear-guider (${\theta}_1$), a stabilizer setup angle(${\theta}_2$), a rear-guider clearance(${\epsilon}_1$), and a stabilizer clearance(${\epsilon}_2$), respectively. As a result, the optimum design factors of an indoor RAC can be presented as a combination of ${\theta}_1=33^{\circ}$, ${\theta}_2=55^{\circ}$, ${\epsilon}_1=6{\sim}8mm$, and ${\epsilon}_2=7mm$ through the analysis of a static pressure coefficient and a static pressure efficiency.
Design of safe structures with resistance to progressive collapse is of paramount importance in structural engineering. In this paper, an efficient optimization technique is used for optimal design of steel moment frames subjected to progressive collapse. Seismic design specifications of AISC-LRFD code together with progressive collapse provisions of UFC are considered as the optimization constraints. Linear static, nonlinear static and nonlinear dynamic analysis procedures of alternate path method of UFC are considered in design process. Three design examples are solved and the results are discussed. Results show that frames, which are designed solely considering the AISC-LRFD limitations, cannot resist progressive collapse, in terms of UFC requirements. Moreover, although the linear static analysis procedure needs the least computational cost with compared to the other two procedures, is the most conservative one and results in heaviest frame designs against progressive collapse. By comparing the results of this work with those reported in literature, it is also shown that the optimization technique used in this paper significantly reduces the required computational effort for design. In addition, the effect of the use of connections with high plastic rotational capacity is investigated, whose results show that lighter designs with resistance to progressive collapse can be obtained by using Side Plate connections in steel frames.

This paper presents static output feedback LQ and $H_{\infty}$ controllers for rollover prevention. Linear quadratic static output feedback controllers have been proposed for rollover prevention in such a way to minimize the lateral acceleration and the roll angle. Rollover prevention capability can be enhanced if $H_{\infty}$ controller is designed. To avoid full-state measurement for feedback requirement or sensitiveness of an observer to nonlinear model error, static output feedback is adopted. To design static output feedback controllers, Kosut's method is adopted because it is simple to calculate. Differential braking and active anti-roll bar are adopted as actuators that generate yaw and roll moments, respectively. The proposed method is shown to be effective in preventing rollover through the simulations on nonlinear multi-body dynamic simulation software, CarSim.
Dynamic and static analyses of existing structures are very important to obtain reliable information relating to actual structural properties. For this purpose a series of material test, dynamic test and static collapse test of the existing two brick chimneys, in Tokoname, are carried out. From the material tests, Young's modulus and compressive strength of the brick used for these chimneys are estimated to be 3200 MPa and 7.5 MPa, respectively. The results of static collapse test of the existing two brick chimneys are discussed in this paper and composed with the results from FEA (Finite Element analysis). From the results of dynamic tests, the fundamental frequencies of Howa and Iwata brick chimneys are estimated to be about 2.69 Hz and 2.93 Hz, respectively. Their natural modes are identified by ARMAV (Autoregressive Moving Average Vectors) model. On the basis of the static and dynamic experimental tests, a numerical model has been prepared. According to the European code (Eurocode n. 8: "Design of structures for earthquake resistance") non-linear static (Pushover) analysis of the two chimneys is carried out and they seem to be vulnerable to earthquakes with 0.25 to 0.35 g.
Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of the thoracic mobility exercise program on pain, proprioception, and static balance ability in patients with non-specific chronic low back pain. Design: Randomized controlled trial design. Methods: Thirty patients with non-specific chronic low back pain participated in this study. The participants were randomized into the thoracic mobility exercise group (n=15) and the lumbar stabilization exercise group (n=15). Both groups received traditional physical therapy for 30 minutes per session. In addition, the thoracic mobility exercise group and the lumbar stabilization exercise group each exercise 3 times a week for 6 weeks. All participants were measured visual analog scale, proprioception test, and static balance ability before and after the intervention. Results: After 6 weeks of interventions, the thoracic mobility exercise group showed greater improvement in visual analog scale, proprioception test, and static balance ability than the LSE group (p<0.05). Further, the thoracic mobility exercise group had significant Enhancements in all measured variables compared to the baselinetest (p<0.05). However, the lumbar stabilization exercise group had significant improvement only visual analog scale, and static balance ability compared to the baselinetest (p<0.05). Conclusions: Our investigation demonstrates that the thoracic mobility exercise is an effective intervention method for improving pain, proprioception, and static balance ability in patients with non-specific chronic low back pain.
In this study a series of centrifuge tests were carried out in dry sand to analyze the comparison of lateral pile behavior for static loading and dynamic loading condition. In case of static loading condition, the lateral displacement was applied up to 50% of pile diameter by deflection control method. And the input sine wave of 0.1 g~0.4 g amplitude and 1 Hz frequency was applied at the base of the soil box using shaking table for dynamic loading condition. From comparison of experimental static p-y curve obtained from static loading tests with API p-y curves, API p-y curves can predict well within 20% error the ultimate subgrade reaction force of static loading condition. The ultimate subgrade reaction force of experimental dynamic p-y curve is 5 times larger than that of API p-y curves and experimental static p-y curves. Therefore, pseudo-static analysis applied to existing p-y curve for seismic design could greatly underestimate the soil resistance at non-linear domain and cause overly conservative design.

In this paper, an analysis method that considers the initial static displacement of structural members using an equivalent single-degree-of-freedom system is presented. Newmark's dynamic analysis algorithm was improved to consider the effect of the initial static displacements of structural members. The effect of the initial static displacement on the maximum response according to the assumed duration of the blast load and natural period of the member was investigated. The effects of positive and negative static displacements on the maximum dynamic responses of structural members subjected to a positively applied blast load were also studied. Modified response charts for the shock-type and pressure-type waves are presented so that static displacements can easily be considered. Using a design example, we demonstrate the significance of the modified response chart that considers the static displacement. Based on the results of this study, the maximum response of a the structural member can be easily obtained whilst considering its initial static displacement. The modified response chart presented in this study can be used for the structural design of plants and military facilities.
In this study, seismic design in pipeline of pressurized water supply system of water extinguishing system has been carried out. This study described a generation of artificial earthquake wave compatible with seismic design spectrum, and also determined equivalent static loads to analyzed the response spectra acceleration by the simulated earthquake motion. This study constructed powerful engineering base for seismic design, and presented equivalent static analysis method for seismic design of water and gas extinguishing piping system. Also, this study readied basis that can apply seismic design and performance estimation of fire fighting system as well as pipeline of water extinguishing system from result of this research. Hereafter, if additional research by earthquake magnitude and ground kind is approached, reliance elevation, safety raising and performance based design of fire fighting system see to achieve.

This paper presents a design method of a static output feedback controller for continuous T-S fuzzy systems via parallel distributed compensation (PDC). The existence condition of a set of static output feedback gains is represented in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The sufficient condition presented here does not need any transformation matrices and equality constraints and is less conservative than the previous results seen in [20].
