기계적 프레스 접합법을 이용한 A1-5052 인장-전단 시험편의 강도 평가에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Strength Evaluation of A1-5052 Tensile-Shear Specimens Using a Mechanical Press Joining Method)

  • A mechanical press joining was investigated in ender for joining A1-5052 sheets for automobile body weight reduction. Static tensile and fatigue tests were conducted using tensile-shear specimens for evaluation of fatigue strength of the joint. During Tox joining process for A1-5052 plates, using the current sheet thickness and punch diameter, the optimal applied punching force was found to be 32 kN under the current joining condition. For the static tensile-shear experiment results, the fracture mode is classified into interface fracture mode, in which the neck area fractured due to influence of neck thickness, and pull-out fracture mode due to influence of plastic deformation of the joining area. And, during fatigue tests for the A1-5052 tensile shear specimens, interface failure mode occurred in the region of low cycle. The fatigue endurance limit approached to 6 percents of the maximum applied load, considering fatigue lifetime of $2.5\times10^6$ cycles.

A study on the fatigue strength characteristics of ship structural steel with gusset welds

  • This study aims to assess fatigue property by the static overload and average load in the fillet welded joints which is on the ship structural steel having gusset welds. To this end, a small specimen was made, to which the same welding condition for the actual ship structure was applied, to perform fatigue tests. In this study, a method to simply assess changes in welding residual stress according to different static overload was suggested. By measuring actual strain at the weld toe, the weld stress concentration factor and property which is determined by recrystallization in the process of welding were estimated to investigate the relation between overload and fatigue strength.

Fatigue Strength Evaluation of the Clinch Joints of a Cold Rolled Steel Sheet

  • Static tensile and fatigue tests were conducted using tensile-shear specimens to evaluate the fatigue strength of a SPCC sheet clinch joint. The maximum tensile strength of the specimen produced at the optimal punching force was 1750 kN. The fatigue endurance limit (=760 N) approached 43% of the maximum tensile load (=1750 N) at a load ratio of 0.1, suggesting that the fatigue limit is approximately half of the value of the maximum tensile strength. The FEM analysis showed that at the fatigue endurance limit, the maximum von-Mises stress of 373 MPa is very close to the ultimate tensile strength of the SPCC sheet (=382 MPa).

T형상용접 이음에서 매몰된 라멜라균열이 용접부의 기계적 강도에 미치는 영향 (Effects of the buried lamellar tears on the mechanical strength in the welded T joints)

  • The mechanical strengths of buried lamellar tears located near the weld toe in the welded tee joints were evaluated in terms of the loss of load carrying capacity as a function of tear area. In static loading, the load carrying capacity was significantly reduced when tear intercepted over 10% of the cross-sectional area of the welded joints. However, the welded joints containing buried tears still failed at stresses over the yield strength of the base metal in the through-thickness direction in spite of the presence of tears up to 20-25% of the area. Fatigue strength of welded joints containing tears markedly reduced with increasing tear areas. Lehigh lamellar tearing test used in this study to produce speicmens was described in detail. The load carrying cpapacity in static loading was influenced by the reduction of supporting area whereas that in fatigue loading was influenced by the stress-concentration effects of lamellar tears and the reduction of supporting area. In bend tests, the pre-existing lamellar tears always grew up toward the weld toe. However, in fatigue loading, cracks grew up and down simultaneously form both the weld toe and the top of lamellar tears because of stress concentration. In fatigue loading, delaminations and decohesion of inclusion/matrix interface generated in multipass welds provided crack propagation paths and enhanced crack propagation because the tips of delaminations and deconhesios acted as stress raisers.

Residual static strength of cracked concrete-filled circular steel tubular (CFCST) T-joint

  • Concrete-filled circular t steel tubular joints (CFSTJs) in practice are frequently subjected to fluctuated loadings caused by wind, earthquake and so on. As fatigue crack is sensitive to such cyclic loadings, assessment on performance of CFSTJs with crack-like defect attracts more concerns because both high stress concentration at the brace/chord intersection and welding residual stresses along weld toe cause the materials in the region around the intersection to be more brittle. Once crack initiates and propagates along the weld toe, tri-axial stresses in high gradient around the crack front exist, which may bring brittle fracture failure. Additionally, the stiffness and the load carrying capacity of the CFSTJs with crack may decrease due to the weakened connection at the intersection. To study the behaviour of CFSTJs with initial crack, experimental tests have been carried out on three full-scale CFCST T-joints with same configuration. The three specimens include one uncracked joint and two corresponding cracked joints. Load-displacement and load-deformation curves, failure mode and crack propagation are obtained from the experiment measurement. According to the experimental results, it can be found that he load carrying capacity of the cracked joints is decreased by more than 10% compared with the uncracked joint. The effect of crack depth on the load carrying capacity of CFCST T-joints seems to be slight. The failure mode of the cracked CFCST T-joints represents as plastic yielding rather than brittle fracture through experimental observation.

Fatigue Analysis of Spot Welded Joints in Suspension Mounting Part

  • Experimental and numerical analyses were performed to characterize the fatigue behavior of spot welded joints in suspension mounting of a passenger car body. Static and fatigue tests were carried out for the tensile-shear and cross-tension specimens. S-N curve and fatigue strengths were obtained from the fatigue test of various specimens. Nonlinear finite element analysis showed that fatigue behavior of spot welded joints could be well estimated in terms of Von Mises stress at the nugget edge. Fatigue behavior of spot welded joint was represented by Von Mises stress better than the fatigue load.

Al-3%Ti 박막의 피로성질에 대한 시편 크기 영향 (Specimen Size Effect on Fatigue Properties of Surface-Micromachined Al-3%Ti Thin Films)

  • This paper presents high cycle fatigue properties of an Al-3%Ti thin film, used in a RF (radio-frequency) MEMS switch for a mobile phone and also describes new test method for obtaining static and dynamic characteristics of thin film and reliability evaluation method on MEMS device with thin film developed by authors. Durability should be ensured for such devices under cycling load. Therefore, with the proposed specimen and test procedure, tensile and fatigue tests were performed to obtain mechanical and fatigue properties. The specimen was made with dimensions of $1000{\mu}m$ long, $1.0{\mu}m$ thickness, and 3 kinds of width, 50, 100 and $150{\mu}m$. High cycle fatigue tests for each width were also performed, from which the fatigue strength coefficient and the fatigue strength exponent were found to be 193MPa and .0.02319 for $50{\mu}m$, 181MPa and -0.02001 for $100{\mu}m$, and 164MPa and -0.01322 for $150{\mu}m$, respectively. We found that the narrower specimen is, the longer fatigue life of Al-3%Ti is and the wider specimen is, the more susceptible to stress level fatigue life of Al-3%Ti was.

차체접합과 관련한 접합 강도 평가 (Strength Evaluation of Adhesive Bonded Joint for Car Body)

  • The evaluation of joint fatigue strength of light weight materials for electrical vehicle body has been performed through single lap joint tests with the design parameters such as joint style, adherend, bonding overlap length and bonding thickness. Fatigue strength was evaluated through 5-Hz, tension-tension, load controlled test with the stress ratio zero value. It is experimentally observed that fatigue strength of joint increases for the increase of overlap length. The combinations of Al-Al and Al-FRP adherends show that fatigue strength of joint is hardly changed for the increase of bonding thickness, but FRP-FRP adherend specimen shows that fatigue strength of joint increases after decreases for the increase of bonding thickness. Al-Al adherend specimen has much higher fatigue length than Al-FRP and FRP-FRP adherend specimens. Riveting at adgesive bonded joint gives little effect on fatigue strength.

  • The compressive fatigue tests on the closed cell Al-Si-Ca alloy foams with two different thicknesses were performed using a load ratio of 0.1. The quasi-static and cyclic compressive behaviors were obtained respectively. The fatigue stress-life (S-N) curves were evaluated from the obtained cyclic compressive behaviors. S-N curves were presented for the onset of progressive shortening. It turned out that the fatigue strength showed higher value for the thicker foam and the onset of shortening of thinner foam took place earlier. The crushing was found to initiate in a single band which broadens gradually with additional fatigue cycles. Progressive shortening of the specimen took place due to a combination of low cycle fatigue failure and cyclic ratcheting.

신구콘크리트 계면의 전단강도 측정을 위한 정하중 및 피로하중 보실험 (Beam Tests for Static and Fatigue Interface Shear Strength between Old and Njew Concretes)

  • 신구콘크리트 계면(접합부)의 전단강도 측정을 목적으로 보시험체를 사용한 정하중 및 피로하중의 재하실험이 수행되었다. 총 13개의 시험체중에서 정적재하실험을 통하여 5개 시험체의 전단강도를 측정하였고, 8개의 시험체는 2,000,000회 또는 3,000,000회의 반복하중을 가력한 후 전단강도를 측정하였다. 실험변수는 접합부거칠기, 전단보강철근 및 시구콘크리트간 부착력의 유무이었다. 정적재하실험에서, 접합부가 거칠면서 콘크리트간 부착력이 존재한 시험체의 경우, 평균전단강도는 $61kgf/cm^2$이었다. 유사한 조건의 시험체의 3,000,000회의 전단하중을 가력한 피로하중실험에서 접착부의 열화현상은 나타나지 않았다. 이 때 반복가력된 최대전단응력은 $20kgf/cm^2$으로 전단강도의 약 1/3수준이었다. 접합부가 거칠게 처리되지 않은 시험체와 접합부는 거칠지만 콘크리트간 부착력이 인위적으로 제거된 시험체의 경우에는 전단보강철근을 사용하여도 피로하중에 의한 접합부의 열화현상이 나타났다.
