  • The purpose of this study was to analyze how economic factors (economic satisfaction, economic conflict) and non-economic factors (non-economic satisfaction, non-economic conflict) differentially influence Korean retailers' long-term orientation with manufacturers, and how they are influenced by manufacturers' power sources under different levels of retailer dependence. After Korean retailers were divided into high and low dependence groups, path differences between the two groups were compared. The results suggested that manufacturers' coercive and non-coercive power sources do not differentially influence high and low dependence retailers' economic and non-economic satisfaction, and economic and non-economic conflict. However, the economic satisfaction of low dependence retailers more strongly affects their long-term orientation than that of high dependence retailers. Also, the economic conflict of highly dependent retailers more strongly affects their long-term orientation as compared to low dependence retailers. Finally, the impact of non-economic conflict negatively influences a long-term orientation for both retailer groups.

  • The study of confined liquid crystals flourished in the decade of the nineties. Liquid crystals properties have been probed after confinement in well-defined or interconnected geometries as those available in porous media and in polymer networks. In this work we emphasized the power of the nuclear magnetic resonance technique to determine the confined liquid crystal structures. We also present unexpected results on the dependence of the confined liquid crystal configuration on the chain length.

  • The last step in the photocycle of photoactive yellow protein (PYP) is a spontaneous recovery of the dark state from the active state in which the p-coumaric acid chromophore is thermally isomerized, concomitantly with the deprotona- tion of the chtomophore and the refolding of the protein moicty. For the purpose of understanding the mechanism of the thermal back-isomerization, we have investigated the rate-determining step by analyzing mutant PYPs of Met100, which was previously shown to play a major role in facilitating the reaction (1). The mutation to Lys, Leu, Ala, or Glu decelerated the dark state recovery by 1 to 3 three orders of magnitude. By evaluating temperature-dependence and pH-dependence of the kinetics of the dark state recovery, it was found that the retardation by mutations resulted from elevation of the activation enthalpy ( H$\^$┿/) and that the pKa of the chromophore, which was affected by the mutation, is in a linier correlation with the amplitude of the rate constants. It was, therefore, deduced from the correlation that the free energy for crossing the activated state in the dark recovery process is proportional to the free energy for the deprotonation of the chromophore, identifying the rate-determining step as the deprotonation of the chromophore. • The effect of the temperature dependence of the smectic layer spacing in the smectic-A (SmA) phase on the formation of defects in the ferroelectric smectic-$C^{\ast}$ ($SmC^{\ast}$) phase is investigated with x-ray scattering technique. The study is based on thin parallel-aligned surface stabilized ferroelectric liquid crystal cells with two different alignment conditions, high pretilt $SiO_x$, alignment and low pretilt polyimide films. It is found that defects observed in the $SmC^{\ast}$ phase have much more profound dependence on the layer changes and chevron formation in the SmA phase than in the $SmC^{\ast}$ phase. We find that thermal layer expansion with decreasing temperature in the SmA phase suppresses the formation of defects observed in the SmC phase.

  • Addition of 2.0wt%$Dy_2O_3$ or 0.3wt%Sn proved to be very effective in improving the permanent magnetic properties of NdFeNbB magnets. $Dy_2O_3$ additions result in the increase in the Hci and temperature dependence due to formation of (NdDy)-rich phase and grain refinement of $\Phi$ phase. This improvement of the coercivity stability of the magnets from the addition of Sn is attributed to the smoothing effect of the Sn addition at the grain boundaries. The magnetic properties, the temperature dependence and Curie temperature of NdFeNbB with $Dy_2O_3$ and Sn combined addition were found to be considerably improved.

  • Unsaturated $Cr(CO)_x(1{\leq}x{\leq}5)$molecules were generated in the gas phase from photolysis of $Cr(CO)_6$vapor in He using an unfocussed weak UV laser pulse and their reactions with $O_2$ and $N_2O$ have been studied. The formation and disappearance of the ground state CrO molecules were identified by monitoring laser-induced fluorescence(LIF) intensities vs delay time between the photolysis and probe pulses. The photolysis laser power dependence as well as the delay time dependence of LIF intensities from the CrO orange system showed different behavior as those from ground state Cr atoms, suggesting that the ground state CrO molecules were generated from the reaction between $O_2/N_2O$ and photo-fragments of $Cr(CO)_6$ by one photon absorption. The depletion rate constants for the ground state CrO by $O_2$ and $N_2O$ are $5.4{\pm}0.2{\times}10^{-11}$ and $6.5{\pm}0.4{\times}10^{-12}cm^3molecule^{-1}s^{-1}$, respectively.

  • The new cationic meso-substituted N-quarternized 4-pyridylporphyrins and their metal derivatives were synthesized as novel chemotherapeutics. The level of DNA damage induced by porphyrins TOBut4PyP, TOBut4PyP, TOEt4PyPMn and TOBut4PyPMn and its dependence on the chemical structure of compounds were analyzed by the Comet-assay. On the base of data obtained, the investigated porphyrins may be arranged by their genotoxic activity in the following order: TOEt4PyP>TOEt4PyPMn>TOBut4PyP>TOBut4PyPMn. Thus, i) the genotoxicity of the Mn-derivatives of TOEt4PyP and TOBut4PyP is higher than the original porphyrins and ii) the genotoxicity of TOEt4PyP and TOEt4PyPMn is increased after substitution of a butyl radical for ethyl one. The applied Comet-assay permits to reveal the dependence of DNA damage induction on the chemical structure of porphyrins.

  • The efficiency of the regional fiscal policy implementation is based on the achievement of target criteria in the formation and distribution of own financial resources of local budgets, reducing their deficit and reducing dependence on transfers. It is also relevant to compare the development of financial autonomy of regions in the course of decentralisation of fiscal relations. The study consists in the cluster analysis of the effectiveness of fiscal policy implementation in the context of 24 regions and the capital city of Kyiv (except for temporarily occupied territories) under conditions of fiscal decentralisation. Clustering of the regions of Ukraine by 18 indicators of fiscal policy implementation efficiency was carried out using Ward's minimum variance method and k-means clustering algorithm. As a result, the regions of Ukraine are grouped into 5 homogeneous clusters. For each cluster measures were developed to increase own revenues and minimize dependence on official transfers to increase the level of financial autonomy of the regions. It has been proved that clustering algorithms are an effective tool in assessing the effectiveness of fiscal policy implementation at the regional level and stimulating further expansion of financial decentralisation of regions.
