  • The limited availability of raw materials and increasing service demands for pavements pose a unique challenge in terms of pavement design and concrete material selection. The self-compacting rubberized concrete (SCRC) can be used in pavement design. The SCRC pavement slab has advantages of excellent toughness, anti-fatigue and convenient construction. On the premise of satisfying the strength, the SCRC can increase the ductility of pavement slab. The aim of this investigation is proposing a new method to predict the crack growth and flexural capacity of large-scale SCRC slabs. The mechanical properties of SCRC are obtained from experiments on small-scale SCRC specimens. With the increasing of the specimen depth, the bearing capacity of SCRC beams decreases at the same initial crack-depth ratio. By constructing extended finite element method (XFEM) models, crack growth and flexural capacity of large-scale SCRC slabs with different fracture types and force conditions can be predicted. Considering the diversity of fracture types and force conditions of the concrete pavement slab, the corresponding test was used to verify the reliability of the prediction model. The crack growth and flexural capacity of SCRC slabs can be obtained from XFEM models. It is convenient to conduct the experiment and can save cost.

  • Despite the increasing incidence of earthquakes in recent years, many of the existing buildings don't have appropriate seismic performance due to the deterioration or structural characteristics. In particular, a piloti-type RC shear wall structure, which is one of the building types in Korea, is highly vulnerable to earthquakes due to a great lack of shear function that can resist lateral force caused by the earthquake since the first floor is mostly soft story, and it is classified as weak story. In this regard, a study on the damage state criterion for the piloti-type RC shear wall structures was carried out. The capacity spectrum was calculated through the structural analysis by selecting typical type of buildings of shear wall systems, and damage state criterion was defined based on the shape of the capacity spectrum.

  • In this paper, we propose the opportunistic channel state information feedback scheme for eigen based scheduling in multiuser MIMO systems. According to 3GPP SMC channel model, the system capacity of MU-MIMO systems is severly degraded, since the antennas are highly correlated in urban macro cell. Although the eigen based scheduling scheme mitigates the adverse effect of the antenna correlation, it achieves only small amount of the multiuser diversity gain. Since the opportunistic channel state information scheme can achieve sufficient multiuser diversity gain, the system capacity of MU-MIMO systems can be improved. The system capacity improvement is verified by the computer simulation results.

  • Reactive powder concrete (RPC) is a type of ultra-high strength concrete that has a relatively high brittleness. However, its ductility can be improved by confinement, and the use of RPC in composite RPC filled steel tube columns has become an important subject of research in recent years. This paper aims to present an experimental study of axial capacity calculation of RPC filled circular steel tube columns. Twenty short columns under axial compression were tested and information on their failure patterns, deformation performance, confinement mechanism and load capacity were presented. The effects of load conditions, diameter-thickness ratio and compressive strength of RPC on the axial behavior were further discussed. The experimental results show that: (1) specimens display drum-shaped failure or shear failure respectively with different confinement coefficients, and the load capacity of most specimens increases after the peak load; (2) the steel tube only provides lateral confinement in the elastic-plastic stage for fully loaded specimens, while the confinement effect from steel tube initials at the set of loading for partially loaded specimens; (3) confinement increases the load capacity of specimens by 3% to 38%, and this increase is more pronounced as the confinement coefficient becomes larger; (4) the residual capacity-to-ultimate capacity ratio is larger than 0.75 for test specimens, thus identifying the composite columns have good ductility. The working mechanism and force model of the composite columns were analyzed, and based on the twin-shear unified strength theory, calculation methods of axial capacity for columns with two load conditions were established.

  • For the evaluation of the load carrying capacity of the deteriorated PSC I girder bridge in service load state and the verification of the grade to the reinforcement effect of actual bridge strengthened by external prestressing tendons, the field test using vehicles is applied widely. Because this teat was executed in elastic range, the investigation of the characteristics of behavior caused by live load is only available. And it is impossible to estimate load carrying capacity in limit state and nonlinear behavior after that a crack is appeared. In this study, the 27-year-old prestressed concrete girder bridge is used and various load tests are performed, so we evaluate the behavior characteristics of the bridge in service load state and ultimate load state, and estimate the load carrying capacity of bridge. In addition, the artificial damages are induced from cutting internal tendons, and external tendons is added to strengthen it as much as vanished internal tendons. Next we compare the damage state with the strengthening state. In case of the application of external prestressing method to PSC I girder bridge, the present experiment result may decide more exactly the load carrying capacity of actual bridge, the amount for reinforcement, and the standard of quality control etc. at reinforcement work.

  • The objective of this study was to assess the effects of constant high ambient temperatures on meat quality, antioxidant capacity, and carnosine expression in longissimus dorsi muscle of finishing pigs. Castrated 24 male DLY (crossbreeds between Landrace${\times}$Yorkshire sows and Duroc boars) pigs were allocated to one of three treatments: constant ambient temperature at $22^{\circ}C$ and ad libitum feeding (CON, n = 8); constant high ambient temperature at $30^{\circ}C$ and ad libitum feeding (H30, n = 8); and constant ambient temperature at $22^{\circ}C$ and pair-fed with H30 (PF, n = 8). Meat quality, malondialdehyde (MDA) content, antioxidant capacity, carnosine content, and carnosine synthetase (CARNS1) mRNA expression in longissimus dorsi muscle were measured after three weeks. The results revealed that H30 had lower $pH_{24h}$, redness at 45 min, and yellowness at 24 h post-mortem (p<0.05), and higher drip loss at 48 h and lightness at 24 h post-mortem (p<0.01). Constant heat stress disrupted the pro-oxidant/antioxidant balance in longissimus dorsi muscle with higher MDA content (p<0.01) and lower antioxidant capacity (p<0.01). Carnosine content and CARNS1 mRNA expression in longissimus dorsi muscle of H30 pigs were significantly decreased (p<0.01) after three weeks at $30^{\circ}C$. In conclusion, constant high ambient temperatures affect meat quality and antioxidant capacity negatively, and the reduction of muscle carnosine content is one of the probable reasons.

  • Bridge structures are a socially important infrastructure and safety management of bridges during the public service period is important. Steel box girder bridges, which account for a large percentage of road bridges, have been designed by allowable stress design method(ASD) and load carrying capacity have been evaluated using ASD. Although design specification has recently been changed to limit state design method(LSD), in most cases, ASD is still used for load carrying capacity evaluation. In this study, the two design methods were used to compare the results of a load rating factor evaluation on a number of bridges, and we are going to find out how to convert the existing rating factor by ASD into rating factor by LSD. The results of this study are expected to can be used as a basis for determining the need for reinforcement and evaluating load carrying capacity by LSD in bridge maintenance.

  • Metal hydride alloys of TiFe based system have been produced by mechanical alloying(MA) method and their electrochemical characteristics have been evaluated for application for Ni/MH battery electrode. These alloys became amorphous after 36hrs ball milling and easily activated electrochemically. All MA amorphous alloys reached at the first charge/discharge cycle the maximum capacity which was 2-3 times higher than the crystalline state. But their cyclic lives were much inferior to the crystalline state. Alloying elements such as Ni, Co, Cr, Mo substituting Fe greatly improved the capacity and 180 mAh/g capacity was obtained in an alloy of TiFe_{0.6}Ni_{0.1}Co_{0.1}Cr_{0.1}Mo_{0.1}$.

  • The structure represents symmetrical metal electrode (gate 1) - front $SiO_2$ layer - n-Si nanowire FET - buried $SiO_2$ layer - metal electrode (gate 2). At the symmetrical gate voltages high conductive regions near the gate 1 - front $SiO_2$ and gate 2 - buried $SiO_2$ interfaces correspondingly, and low conductive region in the central region of the NW are formed. Possibilities of applications of nanosize FETs at the deep inversion and depletion as a distributed capacitance are demonstrated. Capacity density is an order to ${\sim}{\mu}F/cm^2$. The charge density, it distribution and capacity value in the nanowire can be controlled by a small changes in the gate voltages. at the non-symmetrical gate voltages high conductive regions will move to corresponding interfaces and low conductive region will modulate non-symmetrically. In this case source-drain current of the FET will redistributed and change current way. This gives opportunity to investigate surface and bulk transport processes in the nanosize inversion channel.

  • A number of typical type of steel-box pedestrian bridges are constructed in the metropolitan highway or heavy traffic urban area. Although it has the advantage of speedy construction because of its simple structural form and prefabricated erection method, it has been reported that many of these bridges are deteriorated or damaged and thus are in the state such that it would give unsafe and uncomfortable feeling to pedestrians. In the paper, for the realistic assessment of safety and residual earring-capacity of deteriorated and/or damaged steel box pedestrian bridges, an interactive non-linear limit state model are formulated based on the von Mises' combined stress yield criterion. It is demonstrated that the proposal model is effective for the reliability-based safety assessment and residual carrying-capacity evaluation of steel-box pedestrian bridges. In addition, this study suggests an effective and practical field load test method for pedestrian bridges.
