We used the Heart Disease Questionnaire which asks for Qi deficiency-pattern, Blood deficiency-pattern, Yin deficiency-pattern, Yang deficiency-pattern, Qi stasis-pattern, Blood stasis-pattern, Heart heat-pattern, Phlegm-pattern. Magnetocardiography(MCG) is the measurement of magnetic fields emitted by the human heart from small currents by electrically active cells of the heart muscle. Comparing the MCG results and korea medical diagnosis, we showed clinical usefulness of MCG results and korea medical diagnosis.
Blepharoptosis is the state that upper eyelid sagges, palpebal fissure becomes narrow due to disorder of a levator palpebrae superioris or innervation. It affects not only the physical vision but also mental shrink. In the view of oriental medicine, there are various causes, among them mainly cause is the deficiency of spleen Gi. The other hand, we treated a patient who suffered from blepharoptosis(with headache, exotropia, dizziness) differentiate from stagnation of Gi(energy) and blood stasis with Sungihwalhyeoltang(順氣活血湯) mostly. After about 40days of Sungihwalhyeoltang(順氣活血湯) centered treatment, acupunture, we observed an improvement Based on this experience, it is considered that stagnation of Gi(energy) and blood stasis can bring about blepharoptosis.
Objective : This study was carried out to investigate the differences of mental illness between Korea and China in oriental medicine Method : Several main texts in oriental medicine and articles related with topic were collected and inquired. Result : There are some differences of mental illness between Korea and China in oriental medicine. Brain is more important than heart in psychophysiology of chinese medicine, and blood stasis is a main pathologic factor of mental illness. They use not only Ohaeng(five elements) theory, but also Yin-yang theory in oriental psychotherapy. Conclusion : It seems that materialism and western medicine had some influences on modern chinese medicine. On the other hand, There are respect for traditional theory and creativity in Korean medicine represented by Dongeuibogam(東醫寶鑑) and Sasang constitutional medicine.

In Oriental Medicine, hyperlipidemia is considered as the phlegm stagnancy(痰飮) and blood stasis(瘀血). Typhae Pollen helps remove blood stasis and hemorrhage and it also has an effect of relieving pains caused by blood stasis. The purpose of this study is to investigate the curative effects of Typhae Pollen on diet-induced hyperlipidemia in rats. Thirty-two rats were divided into normal, control and treated group. Control and treated group were fed with 1.5% cholesterol diet during 4 weeks, and fed with normal diet during next 4 weeks. Treated group was also administrated with extract of Typhae Pollen during last 4 weeks. Blood samples were collected from each of animals at 4, 6 and 8weeks, and used for the blood chemical analysis. Animals were sacrificed at 8 weeks, and chemical analysis was performed on the collected liver samples. The serum total cholesterol(47.82±2.03㎎/㎗), LDL-cholesterol(11.09±1.27㎎/㎗), HDL-cholesterol (19.64±1.23㎎/㎗), triglyceride(85.09±3.48㎎/㎗) values of treated group were significantly decreased compared with the serum total cholesterol(73.73±5.34㎎/㎗), LDL-cholesterol(22.09±3.09㎎/㎗), HDL-cholesterol(25.18±1.45㎎/㎗l), triglyceride(124.27±6.72㎎/㎗) values of control group at 8weeks. The liver total cholesterol and triglyceride values of treated group show no statistically significant differency compared with those values of control group. On the basis of these results, it is confirmed that Typhae Pollen has the curative effects on the hyperlipidemia in rats induced by hyper-cholesterol diets.
Objectives : This study was designed to evaluate neuroprotective effects of Neutral Pharmacopuncture for Blood Stasis(NPBS) into SP10 and Tangguisusangami-tang (dangguixusanjiawei-tang)(TGT) in the experimental Traumatic Brain Injury(TBI)rats. Methods : Male rats were divided into 4 groups. Group I was no treatment after TBI. Group II was treatment with NPBS into SP10 after TBI. Group III was treatment with TGT after TBI. Group IV was NPBS into SP10 and TGT after TBI. The author carried out neurological motor behavioral, histological assessment test. Results : 1. In neurological motor behavior tests, motor and cognitive function recovery was significantly increased in the Group II, III, IV. Also Group IV was increased as compared with Group II, III. 2. In BAX expression, according to priority Group IV, III, II, I were decresed in 7 and 14 days later. Especially Group IV was significantly decreased in 14 days later. 3. In BCL-2 expression, Group IV was increased slightly in 7 days later. Most incresed expression was experimented in the Group IV in 14 days later. 4. In TUNEL expression, IV was decreased as compared with each Group I, II, III in 7 days later. Group IV, III were decreased as compared with each Group I, II, III in 14 days later. Conclusions : According to the results, NPBS and TGT can inhibit apoptosis of cells after TBI in rats by contol of BAX and BCL-2, TUNEL expression. And also can help neurological motor behavioral function.
Background: Blood stasis (BS) is commonly used for pattern identification in traumatic injuries, including traffic accidents (TAs). Various studies have identified the efficacy of Korean medicine treatments for TA patients, but studies focusing on the BS-based herbal medicine (BSHM), including Tongdo-san (TDS), are rare. Methods: This was a single-center, prospective observational study, conducted from August 24th, 2018 to December 27th, 2018, which included 40 TA patients. Participants underwent routine Korean medicine treatments including acupuncture, electronic moxibustion, cupping, physical therapy, and herbal medicine. In the herbal medicine treatment, participants took BSHM with more than 3 days including taking TDS. The primary outcome measures were the scores from a 100 mm visual analogue scale (VAS) and numerical rating scale (NRS). Secondary outcome measures included scores from EuroQol-5 dimension (EQ-5D) and EQ-VAS questionnaires, the BS and cold/heat indices, and safety assessments. Results: There were significant improvements in the VAS, NRS, EQ-5D, EQ-VAS scores, and BS index after treatment. In the sub-analysis, VAS, NRS, EQ-5D, and EQ-VAS scores were higher in groups with a higher BS index. The moderate and severe BS index groups showed more improvement than the minor BS index group, and there was a significant difference in the EQ-5D scores. There was no significant differences observed in cold/heat index groups scores. Conclusion: BS is associated with TA-related symptoms. BSHM, including TDS, may significantly reduce BS, pain, and discomfort.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was the development of a comprehensive nursing intervention program for the client with acute lymph stasis and stage I lymphedema. Method: The Quasi-experimental design using a non-equivalent control group was used. The subjects were 22 stroke patients with lymph stasis in the control group and 23 patients in the experimental group. The complex physical therapy of Casley-Smith was carried out to the control group for 10 hours, and comprehensive nursing intervention for the experimental group was carried out for 60 minutes. The data for this study was gathered from Feb. 2002 until June 2002 and pertains knowledge about lymphedema, self-care for managing lymphedema, and circumferences of affected limbs. Data was analyzed by mean, standard deviation, ${\chi}^2-test$, and t-test. Result: The changes in knowledge about lymphedema, self-care practices, and circumference of affected limbs after nursing intervention did not show significant differences between control group and experiment group. Conclusion: It can be concluded that comprehensive nursing intervention had more efficiency than complex physical therapy in the treatment of edema for stroke patients because of it's simplicity and time saving. Thereby, the comprehensive nursing intervention program developed in this study would be a useful therapy for the clients with lymph stasis and early stage lymphedema.
Sokmyeungtang was the representative prescription for Apoplexy under the rule of Tang and Song dynasty of which the cultures were thriving in the history of China. However, the clinical use of Sokmyeungtang has been gradually reduced since Geumwon dynasty of China because it was misunderstood that the dryness heat drugs of pungent in flavor and warm in property such as Ephedra, Pubescent Angelica Root, Chinese Cassia Tree-Bark, Divaricate Saposhnikovia Root, Prepared Aconite Root, Fresh Ginger, and Wildginger Herb included in the presciption for Apoplexy supplemented heat as damaging Yin flood. In fact, the drugs pungent in flavor and warm in property activate exterior and interior circulation, circulate channels and collaterals, promote blood circulation, and remove blood stasis with the side effect of relieving exterior syndrome with drugs warming channels. When treating Apoplexy with Sokmyeungtang, the cold drugs such as Gypsum, Baikai Skullcap Root, and Pueraria Root are prescribed to suppress fire of pungent dryness and to control excessive heat of people with Apoplexy as reducing the effects of hot drugs causing impairment of Yin. For treatment of Apoplexy, the above drugs accelerate blood and Qi circulation in channels and collaterals and then in necrotic tissue of human body as removing blood stasis. Consequently, these drugs improve disorders of capillary tube circulation. If Sokmyeungtang, an old prescription, is properly understood, it will be substantially helpful to all kinds of treatments in clinical cases
In the pathological theory of Oriental medicine, the concept of Ul(鬱) largely comprises the two meanings as follows. One is the concept used as the meaning of pathological state originated from stasis in Qi-Xie(氣血) or the function of internal organs. The other is the concept used as the meaning of Ul-disease(鬱病), which is a group of symptom that is mostly characterized by stasis in function of Qi system. The concept of Ul in the medical classics was originated from "Neijing(內經)", and in this book it was depicted as five-Ul(五鬱). Since the concept of Ul was depicted in "Neijing", many relevant theory about it had been developed on the basis of the theory in "Neijing", and in the theoretical development like this, the concept of Ul had become a little bit complicated. With regard to the historical change like this, this study is going to focus on some argument in Ming(明) dynasty, which asserted the existence of deficiency[虛證] in Ul that had opposed the general thought of that time usually recognizing the concept of Ul as [實證]. In this point of view, this study regards Zhang-zihe(張子和) as a doctor who had made an important role in the theoretical development of Ul after "Neijing", and will newly analyze the theoretical development of Ul on the basis of the Zhang-zihe's Ul theory, which is seemed to have played the main role in the formation of concept of Ul as excessive state[實證].
