A planet revolving around binary star system is a familiar system. Studies of these systems are important because they provide precise knowledge of planet formation and orbit evolution. In this study, a method to determine the evolution of an exoplanet revolving around a binary star system using different rates of stellar mass loss will be introduced. Using a hierarchical triple body system, in which the outer body can be moved with the center of mass of the inner binary star as a two-body problem, the long period evolution of the exoplanet orbit is determined depending on a Hamiltonian formulation. The model is simulated by numerical integrations of the Hamiltonian equations for the system over a long time. As a conclusion, the behavior of the planet orbital elements is quite affected by the rate of the mass loss from the accompanying binary star.
Star clusters are important in understanding star formation. In star-forming regions, the number of stars with mass forms with an initial mass function (IMF), i.e. Chabrier, Salpeter, Kroupa, etc. In our simulations, initially sub-virial fractal star clusters evolve to become surviving sub-regions in strong tidal fields. We investigate the slope of the mass function (MF) of these sub-regions with time near the Galactic centre (GC). These sub-regions would appear to have a top-heavy IMF at ~ 2 Myr. Therefore, although our star-forming region near the GC has a normal IMF, stars in surviving 'clusters' can have a top-heavy 'IMF' due to the violent environment.
To study the formation and evolution of sub-galactic scale structures, we have added SPH (Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics) method into an existing cosmological PMTree code, GOTPM. To follow the evolution of gas particles, we consider heating/cooling processes, star formation, and energy & metal feedback by supernova explosion. We have performed various tests for the new code and found that the results reproduce observed quantities or follow the known analytic solutions. We present a test simulation of isolated disk galaxy with a focus on whether the star formation reproduces the observed features.
Stellar wind and radiation pressure from massive stars can trigger the formation of new generation of stars. The sequential age distribution of stars, the morphology of cometary globules, and bright-rimmed clouds have been accepted as evidence of triggered star formation. However, these characteristics do not necessarily suggest that new generation of stars are formed by the feedback of massive stars. In order to search for any physical connection between star forming events, we have initiated a study of gas and stellar kinematics in NGC 1893, where two prominent cometary nebulae are facing toward O-type stars. The spectra of gas and stars in optical and near-infrared (NIR) wavelength are obtained with Hectochelle on the 6.5m MMT and Immersion GRating INfrared Spectrograph on the 2.7m Harlan J. Smith Telescope at McDonald observatory. In this study, the radial velocity field of gas across the cluster is investigated using $H{\alpha}$ and [N II] ${\lambda}$ 6584 emission lines, and that of the cometary nebula Sim 130 is also probed using 1-0 S(1) transition line of $H_2$. We report a distinctive velocity field of the cometary nebulae and many ro-vibrational transitions of $H_2$ even at high energy levels in the NIR spectra. These properties indicate the interaction between the cometary nebulae and O-type stars, and this fact can be a clue to triggered star formation in NGC 1893.

We present GALEX (Galaxy Evolution Explorer) far (FUV) and near (NUV) ultraviolet imaging of 34 nearby early-type galaxies from the SAURON representative sample of 48 E/S0 galaxies, all of which have ground-based optical imaging from the MDM Observatory. The surface brightness profiles of nine galaxies (~26 per cent) show regions with blue UV-optical colours suggesting recent star formation. Five of these (~15 per cent) show blue integrated UV-optical colours that set them aside in the NUV integrated colour-magnitude relation. These are objects with either exceptionally intense and localised NUV fluxes or blue UV-optical colours throughout. They also have other properties confirming they have had recent star formation, in particular Hbeta absorption higher than expected for a quiescent population and a higher CO detection rate. This suggests that residual star formation is more common in early-type galaxies than we are used to believe. NUV-blue galaxies are generally drawn from the lower stellar velocity dispersion (sigma_e <200 km/s) and thus lower dynamical mass part of the sample. We have also constructed the first UV Fundamental Planes and show that NUV blue galaxies bias the slopes and increase the scatters. If they are eliminated the fits get closer to expectations from the virial theorem. Although our analysis is based on a limited sample, it seems that a dominant fraction of the tilt and scatter of the UV Fundamental Planes is due to the presence of young stars in preferentially low-mass early-type galaxies.
Starting from an infrared selected GALEX-SDSS-2MASS-AKARI sample of local star forming galaxies, we built mock samples from redshift 0 to 2.5 to investigate star formation rate (SFR) calibrations using WISE luminosities. We find W3 and W4 band fluxes can indicate SFRs with small scatters when the rest-frame wavelengths are longer than ${\sim}6{\mu}m$. When the wavelength becomes shorter, the observed luminosities are more tightly connected to the emission of old stellar populations than dust, therefore lose the reliability to trace the SFR. The current SFR calibrations are consistent with previous studies.
It has been known that HCN is one of ubiquitous high-density gas tracer, and the abundance ratio between HCN and its Isomer, HNC sensitively depends on kinetic temperature in star-forming regions. Here we investigate the molecular abundance ratio toward three different evolutionary phases of massive star formation: Infrared Dark Clouds, High-mass Protostellar Objects and Ultracompact HII Regions. We obtained the abundances of HCN and HNC using optically thin H13CN and HN13C lines observed with the KVN single-dish telescopes and MAMBO 1.2mm and SCUBA $850{\mu}m$ continuum data. According to our results, the ratio of [HCN]/[HNC] increases statistically with the evolutionary stage, indicative of the effect of temperature. We also found a strong anti-correlation between the column density of molecular hydrogen and the HNC abundance.
MBM 110 is one of the molecular clouds at high Galactic latitude discovered by Magnani et al., and is one of a dozen cometary clouds in the Orion-Eridanus superbubble. We have conducted optical photometry and spectroscopy for a comprehensive study of the region. Recently released Gaia DR2 astrometric data as well as WISE mid-infrared data were used for the complete census of member stars. We select 17 member stars with $H{\alpha}$ emission and/or Li absorption. The total mass of stars in the region is only about $16M{\odot}$. We found that the star formation efficiency in the region is less than 5%. We discuss the origin of the cloud and the star formation history in MBM 110.
Recent observational studies suggest that the environmental effects can shape the evolution of galaxies in clusters. In an attempt to better understand this process, we perform idealized radiation-hydrodynamic simulations of RAM pressure stripping on star-forming galaxies using RAMSES-RT. We find that extended HI disks are easily stripped by moderate ICM winds, while there is no significant decrease in the total mass of molecular gas. RAM pressure tends to compress the molecular gas, leading to enhanced star formation especially when the gaseous disk is hit by edge-on winds. On the other hand, strong ICM winds that are expected to operate at the centre of clusters strip both HI and molecular gas from the galaxy. Interestingly, we find that the strong ICM winds can induce the formation of relatively dense (~1H/cc) HI gas clouds at a distance from the disk.
There have been many studies aiming to reveal the origins of the star-gas misalignment found in galaxies, but there still is a lack of understanding of the contribution from each formation channel candidate. We explore the properties, origins, and lifetimes of the star-gas misalignment using Horizon-AGN, a large-volume cosmological simulation. First, the misalignment fraction shows a strong anti-correlation with the kinematic morphology (V/sigma) and the cold gas fraction of the galaxy. This result is consistent with the result of integral field spectroscopy observations. Second, we have identified four main formation channels of misalignment and quantified their level of contribution: mergers (35%), interaction with nearby galaxies (23%), interaction with dense environments or their central galaxies (21%), and secular evolution including smooth accretion from neighboring filaments (21%). Third, the decay timescale of the misalignment is strongly linked with the kinematic morphology of the galaxy: early-type galaxies (2.28 Gyr) tend to have a longer misalignment lifetime than LTGs (0.49 Gyr). We also found that the morphology and cold gas fraction are both and independently anti-correlated with the misalignment lifetime.
