We present the rst period variation study for the Algol eclipsing binary V346 Cyg by constructing the (O-C) residual diagram using all the available precise minima times. We conclude that the period variation can be explained by a sine-like variation due to the presence of a third body orbiting the binary in about $68.89{\pm}4.69$ years, together with a long-term orbital period decrease ($dP/dt=-1.23{\times}10^{-7}day/yr$) that can be interpreted to be due to slow mass loss from the ${\delta}$-Scuti primary component. The sinusoidal variation may also be explained by using the the Applegate (1992) mechanism involving cyclic magnetic activity due to star-spots on the secondary component. The present preliminary solution needs more precise photometric observations to be confirmed.
We present an analysis of the measurements of mid-eclipse times of V839 Oph, collected from literature sources. Our analysis indicates a period increase of $3.2{\times}10^{-7}$ day/yr. This period increase of V839 Oph can be interpreted in terms of mass transfer of rate $1.76{\times}10^{-7}M_{\odot}/yr$, from the less to the more massive component. The O - C diagram shows a damping sine wave covering two different complete cycles of 36.73 yr and 19.93 yr with amplitudes approximately equal to 0.0080 and 0.0043 day, respectively. The third cycle has to be expected to cover about 13.5 years with lower amplitude than those of the former two cycles. These unequal duration cycles show a non periodicity which may be explained as resulting from either the presence of a tertiary component to the system or cyclic magnetic activity variations due to star spots. For the later mechanism, the obtained characteristics are consistent when applying Applegate (1992) mechanism.
Variability in young stellar objects (YSOs) can be caused by various time-dependent phenomena associated with star formation, including accretion rates, geometric changes in the circumstellar disks, stochastic hydromagnetic interactions between stellar surfaces and inner disk edges, reconnections within the stellar magnetosphere, and hot/cold spots on stellar surfaces. Among these YSO variability phenomena, bursts of accretion, which are the most remarkable variability, usually occur sporadically, making it challenging to catch the bursting moments observationally. However, the burst accretion process significantly affects the chemical conditions of the disk and envelope of a YSO, which can be used as a prominent tracer of episodic accretion. I will introduce our ensemble studies of YSO variability at mid-IR and submillimeter and also cover the ALMA observations of several YSOs in the burst accretion phase, especially in the view of chemistry.
We performed CCD photometric observations of the W-type contact binary AB And for 10 nights from November 1995 to December 1999 using the 61-cm reflector and BVR filters at Sobaeksan Optical Astronomy Observatory. From our observations, the seasonal light curves of AB And for 1995, 1996 and 1999 were completed and 8 new times of minimum light were determined. Newly obtained light curves show that strong light variations occurred in AB And during the past five years. We adopted the 1996 light curves as reference ones and obtained the photometric solutions of them with contact mode in the Wilson-Devinney binary code. Assuming such light variations were produced by the existence of a star spot (or star spots) in the analysis, we derived the system parameters and analyzed the 1995 and 1999 light curves by adjusting only the spot parameters. As the results, we interpreted that those light variations are produced by the simultaneous existence of a hot spot and a cool spot on the secondary. We could infer that the hot spot on the secondary is produced due to mass exchange between the components suggested by Lee (1999).
Based on three specimens (50.6~67.7 mm SL) collected from the southern coastal waters of Jejudo Island, Oxycheilinus bimaculatus was described as the first record from Korea. They were characterized by having two small dark spots behind eye on head and body posterodorsally, a rhomboid caudal fin with elongated central rays and produced uppermost ray as a filament in terminal male, six predorsal scales, and two scale rows on cheek. We proposed a new Korean name, "Du-jeom-gin-ju-dung-i-nol-rae-gi", for the species referring to having two dark spots on head and body.
New CCD photometric observations of GX Aur have been made between 2004 and 2015. Our light curves are the first ever compiled and display the variable O'Connell effect. The light variations are satisfactorily modeled by including time-varying cool-spots on the component stars. Our light curve synthesis indicates that the eclipsing pair is an A-type contact binary with parameters of i = 81.1 deg, ${\Delta}T=36K$, q = 0.950 and f = 46%. Including our 25 timing measurements, a total of 83 times of minimum light spanning about 66 yr were used for a period study. It was found that the orbital period of GX Aur has varied due to two periodic oscillations superposed on an upward-opening parabolic variation. The long-term period increase rate is deduced as $+9.636{\times}10^{-10}d\;yr^{-1}$, which can be produced as a mass transfer from the secondary star to the primary at a rate of $3.136{\times}10^{-6}M_{\odot}\;yr^{-1}$, among the largest rates for contact systems. The periods and semi-amplitudes of the two periodic variations are about $P_3=8.7yr$ and $P_4=21.2yr$, and $K_3=0.011d$ and $K_4=0.017d$, respectively. The most reasonable explanation for both cycles is a pair of light-travel-time effects driven by the possible existence of an unseen third and fourth components with projected masses of $M_3=0.91M_{\odot}$ and $M_4=1.09M_{\odot}$ in eccentric orbits of $e_3=0.13$ and $e_4=0.73$. Because no third light was detected in the light curve synthesis, each circumbinary object could be a compact star or a binary itself.
It is difficult to distinguish the pure signal produced by an orbiting planetary companion around giant stars from other possible sources, such as stellar spots, pulsations, or certain activities. Since 2003, we have obtained radial (RV) data from evolved stars using the high-resolution, fiber-fed Bohyunsan Observatory Echelle Spectrograph (BOES) at the Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory (BOAO). Here, we report the results of RV variations in the binary star HD 135438. We found two significant periods: 494.98 d with eccentricity of 0.23 and 8494.1 d with eccentricity of 0.83. Considering orbital stability, it is impossible to have two companions in such close orbits with high eccentricity. To determine the nature of the changes in the RV variability, we analyzed indicators of stellar spot and stellar chromospheric activity to find that there are no signals related to the significant period of 494.98 d. However, we calculated the upper limits of rotation period of the rotational velocity and found this to be 478-536 d. One possible interpretation is that this may be closely related to the rotational modulation of an orbital inclination at 67-90 degrees. The other signal corresponding to the period of 8494.1 d is probably associated with a stellar companion orbiting the giant star. A Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) simulation considering a single companion indicates that HD 135438 system hosts a stellar companion with 0.57+0.017-0.017 M⊙ with an orbital period of 8498 d.
We report relative proper motion measurements of $H_{2}O$ masers in massive star-forming region W51 Main, based on data sets of VLBI observations for $H_{2}O$ masers at 22 GHz with Japanese VERA telescopes from 2003 to 2006. Data reductions and single-beam imaging analysis are to measure internal kinematics of maser spots and eventually to estimate the three-dimensional kinematics of $H_{2}O$ masers in W51 Main. Average space motions and proper motion measurements of $H_{2}O$ masers are given both graphical and in table formats. We find in this study that W51 Main appears to be associated with hyper-compact H II region with multiple massive proto-stars whose spectral types are of late O.
We have reviewed the magnetic activity in close binaries. Solar like magnetic activity indicators such as photometric spots, chromo spheric emission, coronal X-ray and radio emission, and flare activity are commonplace in many cool stars with convective envelopes. Using the UV spectra we confirmed the strength of stellar activity increases with more rapid rotation and later spectral types which corresponds to the increasing depth of the star's convective envelope. Apart from very young stellar objects such as T Tauri stars, the stars with the highest levels of activity are close binary systems composed of cool stars, i.e., the chromospherically active binaries such as RS CVn, BY Dra, W UMa and related systems. The IUE low and high dispersion spectra of V711 Tau, VW Cep and SW Lac are used for ultraviolet photometry and for a variation study of chromospheric activity. Evidence of chromospherically activity is indicated by the intensity variation of the Mg II emission line with orbital phase.

We report the detection of a low-amplitude 380.8-day radial velocity (RV) variations in oscillating K2 III star ${\alpha}$ Ari (HD 12929). We do not found the correlation between RV variations and equivalent widths of chromospheric activity indicators ($H{\alpha}$ and CaII 8662 ${\AA}line$). The bisector analysis shows that bisector velocity span (BVS) and RV variations are not strongly correlated with each other. These result suggest that the RV variations could have been produced either by planetary companion or by the surface spots. If this RV variation is indeed caused by a planetary companion, an orbital solution with a period of P = 381 days, a semi-amplitude of K = 41 m/s, and an eccentricity of e = 0.25 fits the data best. Assuming a possible stellar mass of $M_{\bigstar} = 1.4-5.6 M\odot$, we estimate the minimum mass for the companion of m sini = 1.8-4.5 $M_{Jup}$ with an orbital semi-major axis of 1.2-1.9 AU. If confirmed, our finding gives a support to search for exoplanets around giant stars with multi-periodic oscillations.
