Hanwoo proven bulls have been selected since 1987 and consequently contributed to farmers for the improvement of beef cattle in Korea. The demand for the quality beef production as well as higher production efficiency was erupted after early 2000 as relatively cheap imported beef released. Therefore the pressure on the reformation of selection index for Hanwoo proven bulls have been piled up to furnish with Hanwoo's competitive. A total of 734 progeny test data were analyzed to select traits and their weights in the selection index to meet the beef market requirement. Regression analysis with stepwise selection method was used to select proper trait and its weight for selection index. A series of computer simulation was carried out to compare the currently using selection index with the alternate two selection indices proposed in this study. New selection index using standardized breeding values of Loin eye Muscle Area (LMA), Backfat Thickness (BFT) and Marbling Score (MS) with weight ratio 1:-1:6 was proposed. Results showed higher performance in improving MS and BFT gain by 22% and 31% still holding 86%~89% of genetic gain achieved by current index in Carcass Weight (CW) and LMA when new selection index was fitted. Because, new index has little consideration for production cost, further research should be performed to build selection index including cost and income simultaneously.

Objectives Although ginseng has been reported to protect neuronal cells and improve various cognitive functions, relationship between ginseng supplementation and response inhibition, one of the important cognitive domains has not been explored. In addition, effects of ginseng on in vivo human brain have not been investigated using the diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). The purpose of the current study is to investigate changes in intrusion errors and white matter microstructure after Korean Red Ginseng supplementation using standardized neuropsychological tests and DTI. Methods Fifty-one healthy participants were randomly allocated to the Korean Red Ginseng (n = 26) or placebo (n = 25) groups for 8 weeks. The California Verbal Learning Test was used to assess the number of intrusion errors. Intelligence quotient (IQ) was measured with the Korean Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale. Depressive and anxiety symptoms were evaluated using Hamilton Depression Rating Scale, Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale, and Hopkins Symptom Checklist-25. The fractional anisotropy (FA) was measured from the brain DTI data. Results After the 8-week intervention, Korean Red Ginseng supplementation significantly reduced intrusion errors after adjusting age, sex, IQ, and baseline score of the intrusion errors (p for interaction = 0.005). Change in FA values in the left anterior corona radiata was greater in the Korean Red Ginseng group compared to the placebo group (t = 4.29, p = 0.04). Conclusions Korean Red Ginseng supplementation may be efficacious for improving response inhibition and white matter microstructure integrity in the prefrontal cortex.

This study examined the effects of emotional clarity and empathic ability on interpersonal competence among nursing college students. The subjects included college students in some provinces. The research period was November and December 2019. Two hundred and eighty five students were analyzed. The data collected were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The findings show that empathy (β=.551, p<.001), emotional clarity (β=.288, p<.001), and satisfaction with college life (β=.092, p<.001) had significant effects on interpersonal competence with an explanatory power of 47.4%. Interpersonal competence had significant positive correlations with empathy (r=.641, p<.001) and emotional clarity (r=.443, p<.001). Therefore, it is important to reinforce the development and application of customized individual counseling programs designed to enhance empathy. This encourages nursing college students to understand emotional clarity, which helps them recognize others' emotions as well as their own and make proper reactions. Accordingly, satisfaction with college life, which adds more vitality to their college life, will increase the interpersonal competence of nursing college students. In the future, repeating and in-depth research should be conducted to include emotional and psychological factors of interpersonal competence. A standardized research tool will be needed to measure interpersonal competence.
This study was designed to provide basic data for developing a standardized caries potentiality index to help to choose snack foods with a low score on the index by investigating adolescents' snack intakes and measuring them in total saccharinity, pH, and acidogenic potential and glucosidase activity of Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans). Total 28 snack foods were selected and measured for total saccharinity (Pocket refractometer PAL-1, ATAGO) and pH with a pH meter (Mentor, Seoul, Korea). Artificial saliva was added to each sample. The experiment group was administered with S. mutans (ATCC 3692), cultured in a constant temperature incubator at $37^{\circ}C$, and measured for pH changes over five times including after 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, and 24 hours. Each sample of 0.3 ml was added to tubes containing sucrose, galactose, or glucose to measure the glucosidase activity of S. mutans. They were then observed for glucosidase activity with colorimetry after 24 hours of culture in a constant temperature incubator at $37^{\circ}C$. The mean pH by the acidogenic potential of S. mutans was pH 5.33. The experiment group dropped in pH more than the control group due to the increasing acidogenic potential of S. mutans by glucosidase activity, recording pH 5.27 after 10 minutes, pH 5.21 after 30 minutes, pH 5.15 after 1 hour, and pH 4.80 after 24 hours. The observation results of glucosidase activity of S. mutans with colorimetry show that most of the samples were positive in orange and yellow with glucose, sucrose, and glactose recording activity of 78.58%, 75%, and 71.42%, respectively.

At present, the actual condition is that Korean modular structures are limited to a low rise detached house and military barracks. And there is no standardized structural design method of stacked modular structure. Accordingly, in general, they don't review impact force in the stage of stacking and installing a module, the effect which wind load has on a structure in the stage of lifting, and inertial force occurring in the stage of lifting or transporting a module in the process of constructing a structure. Therefore, this study investigated the construction method of modular system to be studied in stages, and decided on the position to which load was applied and boundary condition in structural analysis at each construction stage. Besides, inertial force according to each speed was calculated in the lifting and wheeled transport of module. And we calculated impact load according to lifting speed in module stacking and installation work and wind load due to instantaneous wind speed in the installation work by lifting. On the basis of the suggested method, in the modular system to be studied, it carried out review of structure by changing determining conditions of load being applied by construction stage, such as in the stage of lifting, in the stage of transport, and in the stage of installation, and drew construction conditions securing stability structurally.
Introduction: This study intended to identify the current oral health care status and demand of care workers for oral health education. Methods: A survey was distributed to care workers working in 11 nursing homes for older people located in the Chungcheongdo Province. Of those distributed, 217 questionnaires were collected and analyzed. To analyze the collected data, a frequency analysis, t-test, and one-way analysis of variance(ANOVA) were performed using SPSS version 18.0. Results: The demand for an educational course on the 'Management of Oral Health Care for the Aged People' had a score of 4.22 points(full marks were 5.0 points), whereas the score for the necessity for control of oral health was 4.29 points. The control of oral health for the aged people suffering dysphagia scored 4.27 points, whereas the control of oral health for older people who have dementia was 4.27 points. The score for a course on the nutritional control for aged people having difficulties in masticating foods was 4.27. Conclusion: It is clear that the development of educational courses and standardized manuals for care workers on aspects of oral health care is necessary. Therefore, it would be desirable to develop institutional infrastructure for dental hygienists to educate care workers on oral health.

The purpose of the present study was to investigate craniofacial patterns in Korean male and female adults, and to compare morphologic differences between different facial types. In order to get configurational groupings, standardized lateral and P-A cephalograms of 174 Korean adults were measured and analyzed with seven angular, nineteen linear, four ratio, and two index measurements. Ward's minimum variance cluster analysis was employed to divide the sample into groups having similar craniofacial morphology, and thereafter, inductive statistics(t-test) was used to characterize morphologic differences of the divided groups. And also, Pearson correlation coefficients were calculated to assess correlation between the cranial dimensions and upper/lower anterior facial height(UAFH, LAFH) in each facial types for both male and female The results were as follows; 1. There existed sexual dimorphism in most of variables except SN-FH angle, palatal plane angle, facial axis angle, facial index, lower anterior facial height ratio and upper facial height ratio. 2. A brachycephalic headform ($0.84{\pm}0.05$) with leptoprosopic facial form ($0.92{\pm}0.05$) was appeared in male, and a mesocephalic headform ($0.86{\pm}0.06$) with leptoprosopic facial form ($0.92{\pm}0.04$) was exhibited in female. 3. Facial types in both male and female subjects were divided into two groups, Group A (mesoprosopic facial type) and Group B (leptoprosopic facial type). The morphologic differences between Group A and Group B were as follows: a. Cranial measurements including index, angular and linear measurements were not found to be different between Group A and Group B in both sexes. b. Increased UAFH, LAFH, and upper/lower anterior dental heights were exhibited in Group Bs of both male and female. c. In both male and female, ramus height and mandible length showed no difference between Group A and Group B. However, genial angle was found to be larger in Group B than Group A. Therefore, the morphologic differences between two groups in male and female were closely related to less favorable anatomic morphology of the mandible. 4. LAFH and UAFH showed no relationships with cranial dimensions in male and female.
For standardization of quality and reduction of salt concentration of pickles manufactured in Folk Villages of Sunchang Region, the physicochemical characteristics of 90 pickles of 10 items were compared. Persimmon, garlic, cucumber, radish, Codonopsis lanceolata L., and Japanese apricot pickles were mixed with kochujang, perilla leaf pickle was mixed with soybean paste, cucumber pickle in wine cake was mixed with wine cake, and red pepper was mixed with soybean paste or soy sauce. Moisture contents, pH, and titratable acidities of pickles were various depend upon characteristics of materials. Sugar contents of pickles test,34 were ranged from $22.10{\pm}3.04$ (red pepper pickled with soy sauce) to $55.53{\pm}7.67\;^oBrix$ (garlic pickle), and sugar contents of pickles mixed with kochujang were higher than those of soybean paste or soy sauce. Salt concentration of pickles were ranged from $3.56{\pm}1.11$ (Japanese apricot) to $9.15{\pm}6.35%$ (red pepper pickled with soy sauce), and salt concentration of pickle mixed with soy sauce was the highest among the pickles tested. Total aerobic counts of pickles tested were similarly ranged from $5.62{\pm}0.10$ (red pepper pickled with soy sauce) to $6.83{\pm}0.55$ log CFU/g (perilla leaf pickled with soybean paste). These results indicate salt concentration and quality of pickles manufactured in Folk Villages of Sunchang region must be lowered and standardized, respectively.
Background: The association of biomaterial combined with repair factor-like platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has prospective values. Bovine-derived xenograft has been identified as an osteoconductive and biocompatible grafting material that provides osseointegration ability. PRP has become a valuable adjunctive agent to promote healing in a lot of dental and oral surgery procedures. However, there are controversies with respect to the regenerative capacity of PRP and the real benefits of its use in bone grafts. The purpose of this study was to assess the influence of PRP combined with xenograft for the repair of peri-implant bone defects. Methods: Twelve rabbits were used in this study, and the experimental surgery with implant installation was performed simultaneously. Autologous PRP was prepared before the surgical procedure. An intrabony defect (7.0 mm in diameter and 3.0 mm deep) was created in the tibia of each rabbit; then, 24 titanium dental implants (3.0 mm in diameter and 8.5 mm long) were inserted into these osteotomy sites. Thus, a standardized gap (4.0 mm) was established between the surrounding bony walls and the implant surface. The gaps were treated with either xenograft alone (control group) or xenograft combined with PRP (experimental group). After healing for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 weeks, the rabbits were sacrificed with an overdose of KCl solution. Two rabbits were killed at each time, and the samples including dental implants and surrounding bone were collected and processed for histological analysis. Results: More newly formed bone and a better bone healing process were observed in control group. The histomorphometric analysis revealed that the mean percentage of bone-to-implant contact in the control group was significantly higher than that of the experimental group (25.23 vs. 8.16 %; P < 0.05, independent-simple t test, analysis of variance [ANOVA]). Conclusions: The results indicate that in the addition of PRP to bovine-derived xenograft in the repair of bone defects around the implant, PRP may delay peri-implant bone healing.
The selection of the maxillary anterior artificial teeth is made primarily for esthetics and they must be in harmony with the surrounding oral environment. However the selection of artificial teeth is based on the large degree of subjective judgement or the dentists, therefore, this is one of the most unscientific processes. This study was performed to determine clinically whether there is correlation among the width of the maxillary central incisor(WMCI), the intercanine distance (ICD) the facial width(FW), and the interalar nasal width(IAW) in Korean adults, and to provide the selection standards for the maxillary anterior artificial teeth. The casts were obtained from 91 undergraduate dental students(49 males and 42 females) with Angle's class I occlusion presenting well-arranged intact anterior teeth. The WMCI and ICD were measured on the casts with a vernier calipers($Miltex^{(R)}$, Germany). The photographic procedures under standardized conditions were performed to record each subject's frontal face using digital camera($Olympus^{(R)}$, C-2500L, Japan). The FW and IAW were measured with image analyzer($Image-Pro^{(R)}$ PLUS. media cybermetrics. USA). The results were obtained as follows : 1. The mean WMCI was $8.11{\pm}0.67mm$, ICD was $37.88{\pm}2.15mm$, FW was $141.29{\pm}5.84mm$. and IAW was $37.85{\pm}2.29 mm$. 2. The ratios of FW/WMCI, FW/ICD, IAW/ICD were 17.4, 3.7, 1.0 respectively. 3. All measurements(WMCI, ICD, FW, and IAW) of male group were longer than those of female group significantly in Student's t-test(p<0.01). 4. There was significant correlation between WMCI, ICD, FW, and IAW in Pearson's correlation analysis(p<0.01). 5, The relationship between IAW and ICD shows the strongest correlation among six combinations in linear regression analysis($R^2$=0.753, Y=7.046+0.815X). The FW and IAW could be very reliable guides for the selection of the maxillary anterior artificial teeth.
