Maintaining the integrity of the major equipment in nuclear power plants is critical to the safety of the structures. In particular, the soundness of the piping is a critical matter that is directly linked to the safety of nuclear power plants. Currently, the limit state of the piping design standard is plastic collapse, and the actual pipe failure is leakage due to a penetration crack. Actual pipe failure, however, cannot be applied to the analysis of seismic fragility because it is difficult to quantify. This paper proposes methods of measuring the failure strain and deformation angle, which are necessary for evaluating the quantitative failure criteria of the steel pipe elbow using an image measurement system. Furthermore, the failure strain and deformation angle, which cannot be measured using the conventional sensors, were efficiently measured using the proposed methods.
Different methodologies in hair cortisol extraction may alter the final output. Thus finding the standard methodology according to a laboratory facilities is pivotal. This study was carried out to validate the feasibility of two methods of grinding hair for cortisol extraction in Korean native (Hanwoo) cattle. Hair from nine cattle including mature cows, heifers, and calves were assigned to one of the following methods for grinding hair; 1) using bead beater (BB) and 2) using surgical scissors (SS). Hair samples (> 1 g) were harvested from forehead of each individual twice (first and second measurement) to validate the results. To improve the accuracy of the obtained data, each sample was duplicated into two wells during enzyme immunoassay (EIA) analysis. Overall comparison of hair cortisol concentration (HCC) showed that the data within the range (out of the range) of standards provided by the EIA kit were 88.9% (11.1%) and 66.7% (33.3%) for BB compared with SS, respectively. In the first measurement, application of BB was tended to show higher (p = 0.056) amount of HCC compared with SS. In the second measurement application of BB showed higher (p = 0.0028) amount of HCC compared with SS. Among the cattle, calves showed higher HCC using BB compared with SS (p < 0.05). Application of BB in hair grinding methodology for Hanwoo cattle may improve cortisol extraction in comparison to application of SS method, with more consistency. Thus, it would be the preferable method to use.

Standard Estimating System, which can be used for estimating a construction cost, has been pointed out having some problems such as non-reflecting a variety of construction environments and site conditions, non-adapting new technologies and methods since it was established in 1970. For solving these problems, the Korean Institute of Construction Technology(KICT) has chosen organizations for amending Standard Estimating System. However they have had many mistakes in the process of amending works because of non-establishing amending process and absence of the depreciation measurement method. This research derived the necessity to improve the amending process of the Standard Estimating System, and presented the detailed amending process and the performing method in the each process. Furthermore, this research proposed the depreciation measurement method available for the construction industry by means of analyzing researches that performed in the manufacturing industry and the measurement method for depreciation of general accounts.
Recently attention deficit of children has caused various social problems. Those children who has symptoms like ADHD (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) has to be provided with methods which can enhance their attention level in a child-friendly way such as 3D games. This paper shows a research on how to measure the level of attention for attention deficit children using their favorite 3D games. Firstly, we speculated on the methods about attention measurement used in the medical area. And then we searched measurement variables which can effectively evaluate the level of attention during a game play time. Secondly, we have conducted experiment whether there exists difference about the value of the measurement variables between the two groups, normal children group and attention deficit children group. Those variables are omission error, commission error, average response time, and standard deviation of response time. Though our experiment has only been limited to visual attention level, four measurement variables revealed mutual differences.
Ultrasonic physiotherapy systems should comply with IEC 60601-2-5(particular requirements for safety of ultrasonic physiotherapy equipment) standard for safety of patients and clinical performances. One of the most important parameters in the standard is the effective radiating area ($A_{ER}$). It has to be measured in accordance with IEC 61689 (field specifications and methods of measurement in the frequency range 0.5MHz to 5MHz). Typical ultrasonic physiotherapy system works in the frequency range 1MHz ~ 3MHz to comply with the IEC 61689. However, ultrasonic physiotherapy system using frequencies over 5MHz is out of the IEC 61689's scope. That is, even if such ultrasonic physiotherapy systems are developed by demands of the market, there is no standard to apply. It is the motivation for this study. Whereas there are other parameters to be considered, this study focuses on the effective radiating area and shows effectiveness of applying IEC 61689 in measuring effective radiating area of ultrasonic physiotherapy systems using frequency range over 5MHz by comparing the results of computer simulation and experiment. Results of this study shows that applying the IEC 61689 standard to ultrasonic physiotherapy system using frequency range over 5MHz is possible.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the status of exposure to blood and body fluid and factors affecting on blood and body fluid exposure of nursing students including knowledge, performance regarding standard precautions. Methods: 280 nursing students in D-city and S-city participated in this study. Data collection was conducted from January to March 2012. Students' knowledge and performance on standard precautions of infection control in hospitals were measured using the measurement developed by Hong(2010). Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one way-ANOVA, ${\chi}^2-test$, Pearson correlation coeficient, logistic regression by the SPSS WIN 18.0 program. Results: 58.6 percent of subjects experienced a exposure to blood and body fluid. The level of nursing students' knowledge level regarding standard precautions was $22.44{\pm}2.11$ and performance level was $4.31{\pm}0.50$. The factors affecting on blood and body fluid exposure of nursing students were knowledge level and education type about infection control. Conclusions: Based on the findings of this study, to decrease the exposure to blood and body fluid of nursing students, a proper education need to be stressed to improve nursing students' infection control knowledge and awareness.

A novel portable device for the direct measurement of alveolar breath carbon monoxide (CO) was developed. The major components of the device include a mouthpiece, non-rebreathing two-way valve, Teflon tube, and CO dosimeter. An alveolar CO measurement can be completed within 1.5 min when using the proposed device and measurement protocol. Measurements could be read to the nearest 0.1 ppm. Humidity did not influence the CO measurements taken by the CO dosimeter, plus there were no problems associated with the recovery and carryover of CO through the device. The criterion for significance in statistical analyses was p< 0.05. The average recovery was 103 and 99% for recovery and carryover experiments, respectively. Test results using the proposed alveolar CO measurement system reflected a good reproducibility. This reproducibility was also supported by the finding that the relative standard deviations (RSDs) of the data sets were less than 7% for the loss experiment and less than 8% for the carryover experiment. Consequently, it would appear that the proposed device can be effectively applied to measure CO levels found in breath, thereby overcoming several disadvantages associated with the conventional bag and adsorbent tube sampling methods.
Purpose: This study aimed to assess the reliability of measurements performed on three-dimensional (3D) virtual models of maxillary defects obtained using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and 3D optical scanning. Materials and Methods: Mechanical cavities simulating maxillary defects were prepared on the hard palate of nine cadavers. Images were obtained using a CBCT unit at three different fields-of-views (FOVs) and voxel sizes: 1) $60{\times}60mm$ FOV, $0.125mm^3$ ($FOV_{60}$); 2) $80{\times}80mm$ FOV, $0.160mm^3$ ($FOV_{80}$); and 3) $100{\times}100mm$ FOV, $0.250mm^3$ ($FOV_{100}$). Superimposition of the images was performed using software called VRMesh Design. Automated volume measurements were conducted, and differences between surfaces were demonstrated. Silicon impressions obtained from the defects were also scanned with a 3D optical scanner. Virtual models obtained using VRMesh Design were compared with impressions obtained by scanning silicon models. Gold standard volumes of the impression models were then compared with CBCT and 3D scanner measurements. Further, the general linear model was used, and the significance was set to p=0.05. Results: A comparison of the results obtained by the observers and methods revealed the p values to be smaller than 0.05, suggesting that the measurement variations were caused by both methods and observers along with the different cadaver specimens used. Further, the 3D scanner measurements were closer to the gold standard measurements when compared to the CBCT measurements. Conclusion: In the assessment of artificially created maxillary defects, the 3D scanner measurements were more accurate than the CBCT measurements.
An analytical method of nine synthetic foods colors in Korea, Japan, Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee of Food Additives (JECFA), and USA were compared. Contents of water insoluble matter in synthetic food colors tested were not different by general test methods of various organs. Contents of chloride and sulfate salts in Food Green No.3, Food Red No.3, Food Blue No.2, and Food Yellow No.4 slightly differed in various methods, and but up to the standard, and general test methods of JECFA and USA needed far more time. For the measurement of arsenic contents in food colors, colorimetric method in Korea and Japan, and silver diethyldithiocarbamate colorimetric method in USA and JECFA were used, but the standards of them were different. Content of heavy metals was up to the standard, but the methods were used colorimetric method in Korea, atomic absorption method in Japan, and both methods in JECFA and USA.
