The penalized partial likelihood based on restricted maximum likelihood method has been widely used for the inference of frailty models. However, the standard-error estimate for frailty parameter estimator can be downwardly biased. In this paper we show that such underestimation can be corrected by using hierarchical likelihood. In particular, the hierarchical likelihood gives a statistically efficient procedure for various random-effect models including frailty models. The proposed method is illustrated via a numerical example and simulation study. The simulation results demonstrate that the corrected standard-error estimate largely improves such bias.

The systematic classification of database is much debated issue currently in telecommunication industry. Nevertheless, the attempt to build the systematic model is nowadays nowhere to be found. The purpose of this study is to gain a general overview relating to this subject and to make out a draft for the development of standard model. Relating th the study for the databases classification, it was classified from the 9 points of view： manufacturer, subject, processed form (level), (re)presented form, language, completion state and updating cycle, retrieval method, communication media, and use.

SLAGEN, a system for symbolic cell layout based on artificial intelligence approach, takes as input a transistor connection description of CMOS standard cells and environment information, and outputs a symbolic layout description. SLAGEN performas transistor grouping by a heuristic search method, in order to minimize the number of separations, and then performs group reordering and transistor reordering with an eye toward minimizing routing. Next, SLAGEN creates a rough initial routing in order to guarantee functionality and correctness, and then improve the initial routing by a rule-based approach.

In this paper, we will show the brief technical specification of HPEG-4 International Standard that is reached at the final stage and the movement of multimedia industry according to it. An exclusive simulation study is conducted in computing means for order statistics in standard normal variate. Monte Carlo moments are used in Shapiro-Francia W' statistic computation. Finally, quantiles for Shapiro-Francia W' are generated. The study shows that in computing means for order statistics in standard normal variate, complicated distributions and intensive numerical integrations can be avoided by using Monte Carlo simulation. Lack of accuracy is minimal and computation simplicity is noteworthy.

MMT (MPEG Media Transport) 기술은 지난 4년여 기간 동안 ISO MPEG의 표준화 과정을 거치면서 현재 FDIS (Final Draft for International Standard) 수준까지 도달하였고, 2014년 3월 스페인 발렌시아에서 개최될 제 108차 MPEG 회의에서 국가 투표 (national ballot)를 거쳐 IS (International Standard)로 승인될 예정이다. 본 고에서는 MMT 기술의 표준화 현황과 세부 기술 사항에 대해 분석한다. 또한, 하이브리드 미디어 전송을 지원하기 위한 MMT 표준기술의 기술적 사양에 대해 설명한다.

PACS is an integrated communication network system which is consists of image acquisition devices, storage archiving units, display stations, computer processors, and database management systems. In medical industry, they have been introduced the medical equipments through PACS systems based on the DICOM standard. In this paper, we have reviewed the visual quality performance of various JPEG and JPEG2000 compression options for medical images. Through the realized the transmission mode on DICOM standard, the developed DICOM viewer has been shown in medical applications.
