  • In this paper, a 3-D computer-aided die design process was developed for automobile rear frame with drawing, trimming, flanging, cam-piercing and piercing for tool design. The tool design has been done using Pro/Engineer on a personal computer. It is composed of four stations. The goal of this research is to apply each of stations for the standard tool specification to each station.

  • This paper deals with a copper die casting induction motor which has several advantages of motor performance. The developed motor is used as spindle motor in machining center. The dynamic characteristic analysis of rotor is dealt with for precision machining. The critical speed of rotor considering rotation and gyroscopic effect should be above operating speed, 18,000 rpm, and have a 201 % sufficient separation margin. Also, the 3-D unbalance vibration response analysis is performed and enabled the prediction of the expected vibration amplitude by unbalance in high speed. The unbalance vibration responses of each position on the rotor are satisfied with allowable vibration displacement of API 611 standard according to balancing G grade(G 0.4, G 2.5, G 6.3). Copper die casting high speed induction motor is successfully developed and verified by experiment.

  • The objective of this study is to solve a problem that is occurred during the spline machining of tubular shaft yoke in both side IMS module. In order to simulate the problem, the movement direction of upper die was set as standard case and error case. The material of tubular shaft yoke was set to S20C as refer to the analysis library. The movement directions of upper die were separated with standard case and error case. The error case was set to simulate the problem in the spline machining of tubular shaft yoke. In order to solve the problem, the outer radius of upper die were modelled from 9.40mm to 9.44mm. The simulation results were analyzed and compared in terms of effective stress, metal flow line and folding phenomena characteristics. In case of the outer radius of upper die was 9.42mm, it was observed a relatively uniform effective stress distribution and had a straight metal flow line.

  • So far, this report is written by knowledge and standard through several reference drawing and experienced contents with drawing hemming die. The contents about actual design is so huge that I will write about it next time. Timing chart is important to hemming die because of link position and numbers. Timing chart need a very much design time because link number and position have to applied for each case. In this paper developed an automatic timing chart and link position by relation and Pro/Program of Pro/Engineer. The method used relation rule of design parameter for timing chart. In the future, I believe that simple easy to correct and reasonable price hemming die will be producted.

Flow Analysis of Profile Extrusion by a Modified Cross-sectional Numerical Method

  • Flow analysis of profile extrusion is essential for design and production of a profile extrusion die. Velocity, pressure, and temperature distribution in an extrusion die are predicted and compared with the experimental results. A two dimensional numerical method is proposed for three dimensional analysis of the flow field within the profile extrusion die by applying a modified cross-sectional numerical method. Since the cross-sectional shape of the die is varied gradually, it is assumed that the pressure is constant within a cross-sectional plane that is perpendicular to the flow direction. With this assumption, the velocity component in the cross-sectional direction is neglected. The exact cross-sectional shape at any position is calculated based on the geometry of standard cross-sections. The momentum and energy equations are solved with proper boundary conditions at a cross-section and then the same calculation is carried out for the next cross-section using the current calculated values. An L-shaped profile extrusion die is produced and employed for experimental investigation using a commercially available polypropylene. Numerical prediction for the varying cross-sectional shape provides better results than the previous studies and is in good agreement with the experimental results.

  • 프레스 금형의 가공 및 제작 공정의 자동화란 불필요한 반복 작업을 피하여 시간을 절약하고 표준 품질의 가공물을 얻고자 하는 것이다. 자동화의 범위는 3차원 금형설계, 머시닝 센터, 와이어 컷 방전가공, 도면작업까지를 포함하는 것이다. 본 논문에서는 컨트롤박스제어 센서에 사용되는 Irp브라켓으로 3차원 금형설계 후에 동일한 환경에서 프레스 금형의 가공 및 제작 공정 자동화에 대하여 연구하고자 하였다.

  • This paper presents a variant type process planning system for machining of dies for auto-body production. Through the analysis of dies and their manufacturing processes, the authors categorized the press dies into 15 groups according to the similarity of machining features. After critically reviewing current manufacturing procedures, a standard process plan was defined for each group. The authors present MP3D the process planning system built on the standard process plan database, and show how they apply it at the die manufacturing plant of an automobile company. MP3D is expected to reduce major losses in machining such as reworking caused by mistakenly uncut features and eventually to help to accumulate the knowledge of operators. The operation sheet MP3D produces is also used in monitoring the progress of manufacturing of dies. This paper explains the whole development cycle of a process planning system from process analysis to application so that it can help readers to develop and apply a process planning system to their machine shops.

  • Much labor, an exceedingly long lead time, and the skills of experienced engineers are required for press tool design. To reduce such problems, several CAD systems for blanking or piercing have been developed. This paper describes a computer-aided design for blanking or piercing of irregularly shaped sheet metal products. An approach to the system is based on knowledge base rules. The process planning & die design system is designed by considering several factors, such as complexity of blank geometry, punch profile, and availability of press equipment and standard parts. Therefore, after checking a production feasibility for irregular shaped sheet metal products, this system which is implemented strip layout module can carry out a process planning and generate the strip layout in graphic forms. Also this system implemented die layout module can carry out a die design for each process which is obtained form the result of an automated process planning and generate parts and assembly drawing of a die set.

  • Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) durability analysis and experiments of an aluminum alloy brake pedal were carried out for the car lighter by die casting method. In the CAE analysis, KS standards and criteria of the Volvo Car Corporation were applied, and in the experiment, KS standards were applied. The CAE analysis results show that aluminum alloy brake pedals are stronger than the conventional steel brakes pedals because the yield strength of the aluminum alloy increased by almost 97% over that of steel. Further, the structures of the cylinder and the frame were reinforced with increasing thickness of flame and were changed to suit the die-casting process. Through a durability test based on the KS standard, the strength of a prototype of the aluminum alloy brake pedal was confirmed to be sufficient.
