자생지와 조림지에서의 우산고로쇠나무 생장특성 비교 (Comparison of Growth Characteristics Between Natural and Plantation Stand on Acer okamotoanum)

  • 본 연구는 우산고로쇠나무의 적정 식재밀도와 식재시기를 결정하기 위해 자생지와 조림지의 생장특성을 분석하고 조림 시 수액채취 도달연수를 구명하기 위해 수행되었다. 토양은 자생지가 조림지에 비해 비옥한 것으로 나타났고 조림지의 생장특성을 분석해 본 결과 초기생장은 식재밀도에 영향을 받은 것으로 나타났다. 자생지와 조림지에서 흉고직경과 수관폭이 높은 상관관계를 나타내었다. 자생지의 흉고직경별 도달연수는 통계적으로 유의차가 없어 경급별 생장차이는 나타나지 않았다. 수액채취 가능 흉고직경 10 cm에 도달하는 연수는 자생지에서 약 19년, 조림지에서 약 9년으로 나타났다.

경기도(京畿道) 광릉(光陵) 리기다소나무임분(林分)의 지상부(地上部) 탄소저장량(炭素貯藏量) 변화(變化) (Change of Aboveground Carbon Storage in a Pinus rigida Stand in Gwangnung, Gyunggi-do, Korea)

  • 경기도 광릉 중부임업시험장내 임목밀도와 지위가 다른 31년생 리기다소나무임분올 대상으로 3개의 $20{\times}10m$ 조사구를 선정하고 5년 동안(1997~2001) 각 부위별 탄소량 및 탄소 년 증가량을 조사하였다. 각 부위별 탄소함량은 잎>가지>수피>줄기>임상>토양 0~15cm>토양 15~30cm순 이었으며 탄소저장량 및 년 증가량은 임목밀도와 지위에 따라 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 유사한 임목밀도의 경우 지위가 높은 지역이 탄소저장량과 증가량이 높았으며 유사한 지위의 경우 임목밀도에 의해 탄소저장량 및 년 증가량이 차이를 보이고 있다. 조사된 임분의 임목뿌리를 제외한 리기다소나무임분의 총탄소 저장량은 140,600kgC/ha으로 임목 61%, 토양 31%, 임상 8%로 나타났다. 고사목이 많이 발생하였던 2001년도를 제외한 년 평균 탄소 증가량은 3,233kgC/ha/yr로 줄기>가지>수피>잎 순이었다. 31년생 리기다소나무임분의 탄소저장량 및 년 증가량 변화를 조사한 결과 유사한 지위에서는 임목밀도가 높은 것이 지위에 차이가 날때는 임목밀도 조절에 의한 생장량 증가가 탄소흡수능력을 증진 할 수 있을 가능성을 시사한다.

상수리나무임분의 낙엽낙지량과 임분특성의 관계 (Relationships between Litterfall Amounts and Stand Attributes in a Quercus accutissima Stand)

  • 상수리나무임분을 대상으로 산림지역에서 쉽게 측정이 가능한 임목밀도, 평균 흉고직경, 평균 수고, 흉고단면적합 등의 임분특성과 낙엽낙지량과의 관계를 조사한 결과 임분 특성은 꽃과 기타물질을 제외하고 낙엽낙지 구성성분과 유의적인 상관관계가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 약 20개월의 조사기간동안 낙엽낙지 구성성분 중 가장 높은 비율을 차지하는 낙엽량의 경우 흉고단면적합과 상관관계가 없는 것으로 나타났고, 임목밀도도 낙엽량에 유의적인 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 평균 흉고직경의 경우 임목밀도의 영향을 많이 받기때문에 임목밀도의 결과와 유사하며, 평균 수고와 낙엽량의 경우도 유의적인 상관관계가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 성숙한 상수리나무임분의 경우 임관이 울폐되어, 여러 가지 임분특성이 낙엽낙지량에 미치는 영향이 크지 않기 때문으로 그 결과 낙엽낙지량의 년 변화도 유의적인 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났다.

고창지역 소나무림의 바이오매스 및 순생산량에 관한 연구 (Biomass and Net Primary Production of Pinus densiflora Stands in Gochang regions)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 전라북도 고창군 일대의 소나무림을 대상으로 바이오매스 추정식을 개발하고 이를 바탕으로 바이오매스 및 순생산량, 줄기밀도와 바이오매스 확장계수를 분석하고자 하였다. 유령임분과 성숙임분의 경우 평균 임령이 각각 10년과 48년으로 나타났으며 임목 전체 건중량은 8.59 kg, 166.66 kg으로 나타났고 임분밀도를 고려한 단위면적당 지상부 건중량은 17.55 Mg/ha, 122.05 Mg/ha으로 나타났다. 지하부를 포함한 임목전체 건중량은 21.48 Mg/ha, 154.16 Mg/ha으로 나타났다. 부위별 바이오매스 구성비는 유령임분에서 성숙임분으로 갈수록 줄기목질부, 줄기 수피, 뿌리는 증가하는 경향을 보이는 반면, 잎, 가지 구성비는 감소하는 경향으로 나타났다. 지상부 순생산량은 유령임분에서 6.30 Mg/ha으로 나타났고 임목 전체에서는 6.95 Mg/ha으로 나타났으며, 성숙 임분에서 11.61 Mg/ha, 임목전체에서 13.19 Mg/ha으로 나타났다. 줄기밀도($g/cm^3$)는 유령임분과 성숙임분에서 각각 0.338, 0.448로 나타났으며, 임령이 증가함에 따라 증가하는 일반적인 경향으로 나타났다. 바이오매스 확장계수는 유령임분과 성숙임분에서 각각 2.304~2.508, 1.318~1.644의 범위로 나타났다.

Population persistence of the perennial kelp Eisenia arborea varies across local spatial scales

  • Perennial stipitate kelps are globally distributed and individual species can inhabit broad latitudinal ranges, expressing notably longevous persistence. Despite the foundational role kelps provide to their communities, little is known about the variability in persistence of the stipitate kelps at local spatial scales. We studied the population persistence of Eisenia arborea, a heat- and wave force-tolerant perennial stipitate kelp with a distributional range extending from British Columbia to south of the range limit of all other northeast Pacific kelps, in Baja California Sur, Mexico. Persistence characteristics for E. arborea among sites were compared and used to test the hypothesis that stand persistence varied at local spatial scales around Isla Natividad, a Pacific island off the Baja California peninsula with documented spatiotemporal environmental heterogeneity. Collected individuals around the island were "aged" using the previously validated age estimation technique of counting annual cortical dark rings. After detecting no significant differences among sites in the covariation between estimated ages for collected individuals and stipe length, we utilized in-situ population-level stipe length measurements to more rapidly predict age structures within six stands around the island. Predicted age structures, and associated stand densities, revealed persistence characteristics and density varied at local scales and a strong positive relationship existed between stand density and stand mean and maximum ages. We speculate that stands responded differently to deterministic influences (e.g., the 2014-2016 marine heatwave and / or competition with Macrocystis) resulting in heterogenous local persistence of this foundation species.

소구경 플라스틱 케이싱 공에서의 밀도검층 보정실험 (An Experimental Study on Density Log Correction for Plastic Cased Slim Boreholes)

  • 강원대학교 구내에 설치된 4개의 보정시험공에서 플라스틱재질의 원통 및 반원통 케이싱을 이용한 이격오차 실험을 수행하였다. 이격실험 자료에 spine and ribs 기법을 적용한 결과 케이싱 두께 및 유형에 관계없이 하나의 밀도모델에서는 하나의 이격선이 얻어졌으며 그 기울기는 모델지층의 밀도에 비례하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 이격특성을 이용하여 플라스틱 케이싱이 설치된 NX시추공에서의 효과적인 밀도보정 방안이 제시되었다.

삼림의 생산구조와 생산력에 대한 연구 II. 춘천지방의 소나무림과 신갈나무림의 비교 (Studies on the Productivity and the Productive Structure of the Forests II. Comparison between the Productivity of Pinus densiflora and of Quercus mongolica Stands located near Choon-Chun City)

  • A comparison between the productivity of the evergreen needle pine(Pinus densiflora) and of the deciduous broad leaved oak(Quercus mongolica) stands, which is located near Choon-Chun city, Kangwon dist. have been established. The pine stand had a stand density of 938 trees per ha and oak stand had of 638 trees per ha. The diameter at breast height (D) and the height of tree (H) of each tree were measured in sample plot of 800$m^2$. Twelve standard sample trees chose from the sample area felled down, and then weighed the stem, branches and leaves separately, according to both the stratified clip technique and the stem analysis. The vertical distribution of photosynthetic system was arranged effectively for high productivity in the productive structure of both trees. The allometric relation between D2H and dry weight of stem (Ws), branches (Wb) and leaves (Wl) of pine were approximated by log Ws=0.6212 log D2H-0.5383 log Wb=0.4681 log D2H-0.7236 log Wl=0.2582 log D2H-5.1567 and those of oak were approximated by log Ws=0.5125 log D2H+0.0231 log Wb=0.5125 log D2H-0.3755 log Wl=0.8721 log D2H-2.9710 From the above, the standing crops of pine and oak in the sample area were estimated to be as much as 38.83ton and 48.11 ton of dry matter, above ground, per ha, respectively. Annual net production as the sum of the biomass newly formed during one year was appraised at 12.66ton/ha.yr in pine stand and at 8.74 ton/ha.yr in oak. The reason of high productivity of pine stand compared with oak might be resulted from much more about 4 times of the amount of the photosynthetic system, but less non-photosynthetic one of pine than those of oak. To increase the productivity of the forest stands investigated it was necessary to make densly a stand density, to be abundant in the inorganic nutrients and to preserve much water in soil to conserve the litters.

Dry Season Evaporation From Pine Forest Stand In The Middle Mountains Of Nepal

  • The quantification of dry season evaporation in regions, where the magnitude of dry season flows is key to the regional water supply, is essential for good water management. Also, tree transpiration has a significant role in the water balance of a catchment whenever it is tree populated, especially in water limited environments. Such is the case in the Middle Mountains of Nepal where dry season flows play a significant role in downstream water provisioning and their proper functioning is key to the welfare of millions of people. This research seeks to study the transpiration of a pine forest stand in the Jikhu Khola Watershed in the Middle Mountains of Nepal. To the author's knowledge, no single study has been made so far to estimate the dry season evaporation from the planted forest stand in the Middle Mountains of Nepal. The study was carried out in planted pine forest embedded within the Jikhu Khola Catchment. Field campaigns of sap flow measurements were carried out from September, 2010 to February, 2011 in the selected plot of 15*15m dimension, to characterize dry season evaporation. This was done by measuring sap fluxes and sapwood areas over the six trees of different Diameter at Breast Height (DBH) classes. The sap flux was assessed using Granier's thermal dissipation probe (TDP) technique while sapwood area was determined using several incremental core(s) taken with a Pressler borer and immediately dyeing with methyl orange for estimating the actual depth of sapwood area. Transpiration of the plot was estimated by considering the contribution of each tree class. For this purpose, sap flux density, sapwood area and the proportion of total canopy area were determined for each tree class of the selected plot. From these data, hourly and diurnal transpiration rates for the plot were calculated for experimental period. Finally, Cienciala model was parameterized using the data recorded by the ADAS and other terrain data collected in the field. The calibrated model allowed the extrapolation of Sap flux density (v) over a six month period, from September 2010 to February 2011. The model given sap flux density was validated with the measured sap flux density from Grainier method.

Comparison of stand structure and growth characteristics between Korean white pine plantation and oak-dominated natural deciduous forest by thinning treatment

  • Background: Korean white pine (Pinus koraiensis) is a major commercial species, and the importance of the oak trees (Quercus spp.) is increasing due to various factors such as environmental and ecological values. However, more information is required to clearly understand the growth characteristics of these species especially regarding thinning intensity. This study was performed to provide the basic information to develop the silvicultural guideline and field manual by analyzing tree and stand characteristics in line with thinning intensity in the Korean white pine plantation and oak-dominated natural deciduous forest. Results: Diameter at breast height (DBH) and volume changes by the thinning intensity in the Korean white pine plantation were significantly different from those in the oak-dominated deciduous natural forest. In particular, DBH distribution in the pine stand appeared that there were more large diameter trees as the thinning intensity was higher. DBH periodic annual increment (PAI) of the pine stand was higher as the thinning intensity was stronger and the growth period was shorter. This trend was similarly shown in the natural deciduous forest, but the amount of PAI was smaller than in pine stand. The volume PAI after thinning was not decreased over time. In each stand type, the PAI tended to be lower as stand density was higher. The volume PAI in the pine stand was significantly higher than that in the oak-dominated natural deciduous forest. Dead trees occurred the most in the unthinned plots of each stand type, and those were higher in the natural deciduous forest. Ingrowth trees were observed only in the natural deciduous forest, and its distribution was the lowest in unthinned plots; Korean white pine as ingrowth occurred the most frequently among many tree species. Conclusions: Different effects of thinning treatment on DBH and volume PAI, mortality, and ingrowth were observed for each stand. With respect to forest growth, Korean white pine plantation was superior to the oak-dominated natural deciduous forest. The results of this study offer fundamental information for the development of silvicultural guidelines for Korean white pine plantations and oak-dominated natural deciduous forests in Korea.
