Stabilizing Technology of Pure Vitamin A using Triple Matrix Capsulation

  • In order to get stabilized pure retinol in skin care cosmetics, developing the three layered matrix bead capsules were studied. This study relates to make a cosmetic composition using the three layered matrix capsule that could increase the stability of the active ingredient. A primary encapsulation, vitamin A (pure retinol) of active ingredient was perfectly capsulated into water-in-oil (Water-in-Oil: W/O) emulsion vesicle using PEG-10 dimethicone copolyol emulsifier. A secondary encapsulation of multiple emulsion of the water-in-oil-in-water (W/O/W) emulsion blending W/O emulsion using sucrose distearate of surfactant was developed using homogenizing emulsifying system. Pure retinol of active ingredient was stably capsulized to inside the W/O/W-multiple emulsion in order to load the triple matrix capsulation. By coating it with a polymer matrix base, encapsulated in the triple layered type, which were developed bead encapsulation of 2~10mm uniformly size. To show beautifully appearance capsulated bead type, these finish particles in this triple matrix layer were developed as a gold, green, dark brown, silver and blue color were encapsulated in the bead types. Structural particle certification of triple matrix layer was observed through SEM analysis. Stability of pure retinol was remained stable more than 99.7% for 30 days at $42^{\circ}C$ incubating conditions compared with non-capsule. This technology was applied in different formulations such as various sizes and colors that by applying the skin care cosmetics. In the future, this technology to encapsulate an unstable active ingredient, we expect to be expanded this application in the food and drug as a time delivery system.

  • In order to develop a broad-spectrum veterinary anthelmintic, a combined preparation of nitroxynil and levamisole was formulated for subcutaneous injection. The preformulation studies on solubilization, physicochemical stability and toxicity of combined preparation were performed. The combined preparation of nitroxynil-N-ethylglucamine and levamisole base could be solubilized up to 50.3%(w/v) of active ingredient concentration in propylene glycol/water system. Injectable solutions were most stable at $4^{\circ}C$. Local toxicities such as flare and edema were not shown when the usual dose of the combined preparation was injected subcutaneously to the rats.

Improvement of Thermal Stability of Nickel Silicide Using Co-sputtering of Ni and Ti for Nano-Scale CMOS Technology

  • In this paper, a thermally stable nickel silicide technology using the co-sputtering of nickel and titanium atoms capped with TiN layer is proposed for nano-scale metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET) applications. The effects of the incorporation of titanium ingredient in the co-sputtered Ni layer are characterized as a function of Ti sputtering power. The difference between the one-step rapid thermal process (RTP) and two-step RTP for the silicidation process has also been studied. It is shown that a certain proportion of titanium incorporation with two-step RTP has the best thermal stability for this structure.

  • Protein folding is a fundamental problem in structural bioinformatics and so numerous studies have been devoted to the subject. As the most common regular secondary conformation in proteins, helix has been an important ingredient of the protein folding problem. In particular, alanine based polypeptides are widely studied to identify the helix folding process in that the aianine amino acid is known to have one of the highest helix propensities. In principle, intrinsic helix propensities can be obtained from gas-phase measurements where solvent effect is absent. Hudgins et al. studied alanine-based peptides in vacuo using high-resolution ion mobility measurement technique. It was reported that introduction of a single Iysine at the C terminus resulted in the formation of very stable, monomeric polyalanine helices. We also have investigated helix formation in vacuo with different terminal charge conditions; we have found a new type of helix motif, To the best of our knowledge, this type of helix conformation has not been characterized before and we name it as I-helix.

리베틴에 존재하는 난황항제의 소화효소에 대한 저항성 (Resistance of Hen항s Egg Yolk Immunoglobulins in Livetin to Digestive Enzymes)

  • A livetin solution(LS) containing yolk immunoglobulins(IgY) was separated by treating the egg yolk with natural gum, carrageenan. Carrageenan has been used as a food ingredient. Relative absorbance of IgY LS after proteolysis was investigated. IgY LS was fairly stable to pepsin digestion at pH 3.0. However, IgY LS appeared to be susceptible to pepsin digestion at pH 2.0, showing 18% of relative absorbance and complete breakdown H chain after 30 min exposure. Relative absorbance of IgY LS was considerably high after exposure to trypsin and chymotrypsin for 8 hr. IgY LS showed especially good stability to chymotrypsin digestion.

당근 당 단백질의 기능성 화장품 소재로서의 응용성 (Application as a Functional Cosmetic Ingredient of Carrot Glycoprotein)

  • 본 연구에서 당근에서 제조한 CG의 기능성 화장품 소재로서의 응용성을 SCP와 비교 검토하기 위하여 CG와 SCP를 적용한 각각의 기능성 크림을 제조하였다. CG와 SCP를 적용한 각각의 기능성 크림에서의 변색, 변취 및 크리밍 현상이나 응집 등의 관능검사와 pH, 점도 등의 물성 변화는 $5^{\circ}C$, $25^{\circ}C$에서 매우 안정하다. 피부에서의 수분손실량 및 수분 함유량의 변화를 측정한 결과에서도 CG의 보습작용이 우수한 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 CG를 함유한 크림은 SCP를 함유한 크림과 마찬가지로 피부에 보습 효과가 우수하여 주름개선에도 큰 영향을 줄 것으로 예상된다.

  • N-Acetyl-D-glucosamine (NAG)는 보습제로 사용되어지는 히아루론산의 구성물질인 뮤코 다당류의 일종이며, 특히 화장품으로서 응용은 보습제로서의 사용이 최초이다. 본 실험에서는 게나 새우의 껍데기에서 추출된 키틴을 탈아세틸화 하여 얻은 NAG를 화장품 원료로서 적용하고자 하였다. 현재 기능성 주름 원료로 알려진 레티놀(retinol)과 NAG를 비교하기 위하여 섬유아세포의 활성능력 및 콜라겐 생성촉진 효과를 비교 실험하였으며, 제형 내에서의 안정성을 위하여 HPLC로 역가를 측정하였다. 실험결과, 게의 껍질로부터 유도된 NAG는 피부에 자극을 전혀 주지 않으면서 섬유아세포의 세포활성 및 콜라겐의 생성을 촉진시키는 효과를 나타내었으며, 헤어리스 마우스를 대상으로 실험을 실시한 결과 피부층의 변화를 통하여 주름의 감소 효능을 볼 수 있었다.

Current status of opioid prescription in South Korea using narcotics information management system

  • Background: Recognizing the seriousness of the misuse and abuse of medical narcotics, the South Korean government introduced the world's first narcotic management system, the Narcotics Information Management System (NIMS). This study aimed to explore the recent one-year opioid prescribing patterns in South Korea using the NIMS database. Methods: This study analyzed opioid prescription records in South Korea for the year 2022, utilizing the dispensing/administration dataset provided by NIMS. Public data from the Korean Statistical Information Service were also utilized to explore prescription trends over the past four years. The examination covered 16 different opioid analgesics, assessed by the total number of units prescribed based on routes of administration, type of institutions, and patients' sex and age group. Additionally, the disposal rate for each ingredient was computed. Results: In total, 206,941 records of 87,792,968 opioid analgesic units were analyzed. Recently, the overall quantity of prescribed opioid analgesic units has remained relatively stable. The most prescribed ingredient was oral oxycodone, followed by tapentadol and sublingual fentanyl. Tertiary hospitals had the highest number of dispensed units (49.4%), followed by community pharmacies (40.2%). The highest number of prescribed units was attributed to male patients in their 60s. The disposal rates of the oral and transdermal formulations were less than 0.1%. Conclusions: Opioid prescription in South Korea features a high proportion of oral formulations, tertiary hospital administration, pharmacy dispensing, and elderly patients. Sustained education and surveillance of patients and healthcare providers is required.

Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay for the Detection of Hen's Egg Proteins in Processed Foods

  • The Hen's egg is widely used in many processed foods as an ingredient and is one of the most prevalent food allergens in children. To detect egg proteins in processed foods, we developed a competitive indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ciELISA) using an anti-ovomucoid (OM) antibody, which was produced by immunization of rabbits with OM, the most heat-stable component of the egg proteins. The detection limit of this quantitative assay system was 30 ng/mL. Cross-reactivity of the anti-OM antibody toward OM, ovalbumin, skim milk, casein, whey protein isolate, and isolated soy protein was 100, 0.4, 0.2, 0.04, 0, and 0%, respectively. In the spike test of egg white powder in milk replacer, commercial sausage, and in-house sausage, the assay recoveries ($mean{\pm}SD$) were $129{\pm}13.7%$, $73.9{\pm}12.5%$, and $65.5{\pm}13.6%$, respectively. When egg white in a commercial crab meat analog and sausage was determined by ciELISA, the assay recovery was found to be 108% and 127%, respectively. The combined results of this study indicate that this novel ciELISA for OM detection could be applied for the quantification of hen's egg proteins in processed foods.

A novel L-ascorbic acid and peptide conjugate with increased stability and collagen biosynthesis

  • L-ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) and peptide are both useful compounds for collagen biosynthesis in cosmeceuticals (cosmetic and pharmaceutical fields). The instability of these compounds, however, limit their application in these industries. In this report, we describe the development of a novel compound, Stabilized Ascorbyl Pentapeptide (SAP), which physically is much more stable than L-ascorbic acid in water. The inhibitory effects of this SAP compound on tyrosinase and melanin synthesis is comparable to that of L-ascorbic acid. Importantly, the SAP compound displays no cytotoxicity at a high concentration (5 mM). The ability of SAP to promote collagen biosynthesis is greater than that of L-ascorbic acid or the KTTKS peptide alone. Considering the in vitro stability and functional effects, our data strongly suggest that the SAP compound is a good candidate not only as a cosmetic ingredient, but also as a wound healing agent.
