  • A Study is made on shrink fit shaft in which its part is modelled and spring stiffness per unit length is estimated, then obtained transfer matrix. Transfer matrix of shaft is found by Myklestad's method and natural frequency is found by shrink fit tolerance on shrink fit shaft, too. In order to verify effectiveness of shrink fit effect, hollow shaft of the same size is compared with shrink fit shaft which will verified on experiment. As a result of this study, the more shrink fit tolerance increases, the more spring stiffness per unit length increases. It is obvious from the above results that shrink fit shaft due to shrink fit tolerances decreases natural frequency.

  • The purpose of this study is to obtain the effects of the parameters of the suspension system in railway rolling-stock for KT-23 type Passenger vehicle. According to the analysis and the small scale model car test. optimal condition was obtained for the stiffness ratio of secondary spring to primary spring of the suspension system and the mass ratio of the bogie frame to the car body. The analysis of the study shows that if the car body mass is increased or secondary stiffness Is lowered, the vertical vibration level is reduced and the passenger comfort can be improved. Especially, strong peaks are occurred in the frequencies corresponding to the rotational speed of driving axle and vehicle wheel. Hence, in order to obtain the dynamic characteristics through the small scale model car, the driving method of the vehicle on the test bench, rotational characteristics of the wheel and the natural modes of vehicle should be investigated and be modified.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the influence of the exciter attached for the measurement of natural frequencies when extracting the frequency response functions of the test structure in experimental modal analysis. The procedure is first to model the attached exciter as an additional degree of freedom system and next to verify the suggested model by experimentally extracting the natural frequencies of the test structure with various values of exciter mass, stinger stiffness and attachment position of the exciter on the test structure. It is concluded that as additional degree of freedom system which includes the natural frequency of the exciter itself and axial stiffness of stinger should be considered to quantatively define the coupling effects of structure-exciter interaction on the measured natural frequencies. It is not the mass of the exciter itself but the coupling effect of the additional degree of freedom mass-spring system consisting of exciter body and armature coil that characterizes the natural frequency deviation. Therefore, when the natural frequency of this additional mass-spring system is outside of the test frequency range, the coupling effect of structure-exciter interaction can be minimized.

  • This paper presents a damper system design in torque converter to minimize the vibration in powertrain of automatic transmission vehicle. The lock-up clutch in torque converter makes engine and transmission connected directly. When the lock-up clutch is engaged the torque fluctuation of engine is attenuated by the damper system. This function decides the vehicle power-train dynamic characteristics. At first, the dynamic hysteresis effect with any self and surface to surface contact problems of the damper springs in the damper system for torque converter is analyzed by using FEM. It is shown that these simulation results have a good design reference to energy dissipation operating by damper system in torque converter. And, to calculate dynamic characteristics, the vehicle model is structured by using $AMESim^{(R)}$?? that is a common use program. The vehicle model shows the frequency response of vehicle by changing the stiffness of damper spring, and these results lead the most suitable stiffness of spring. Also, new damper system is analyzed resonance frequency variation and is compared with prior damper.

  • If the vibration is occurred in a large-sized bus roof, it makes people annoying and complaining the quality of a large-sized bus. So in design stage, it must be considered. To assess vibration at the roof which is equipped with air conditioner in design stage, finite element model is constructed. Computer simulation analysis and experimental method are performed. The dynamic characteristics of the large-sized bus are found by using eigenvalue method. It is related with dynamic behavior. The running conditions of a large-sized bus are velocity and road condition which followed experimental conditions. And the frequency response of a large-sized bus is well correlated with analysis result. Modal participation method is used for finding major modes at each peak. Using this method, we found that front and rear suspension system, engine mounting system and roof structure are the major reasons of the roof vibration. To reduce vibration level of roof in a large-sized bus, spring stiffness of front and rear suspension system, spring stiffness of engine mounting system and roof structure are properly combined. From this study, the vibration characteristics of the roof structure of a large-sized bus can be to a satisfactory level.

  • The use of shape memory alloys (SMAs) in dynamical systems has an increasing importance in engineering especially due to their capacity to provide vibration reductions. In this regard, experimental tests are essential in order to show all potentialities of this kind of systems. In this work, SMA springs are incorporated in a dynamical system that consists of a one degree of freedom oscillator connected to a linear spring and a mass, which is also connected to the SMA spring. Two types of springs are investigated defining two distinct systems: a pseudoelastic and a shape memory system. The characterisation of the springs is evaluated by considering differential calorimetry scanning tests and also force-displacement tests at different temperatures. Free and forced vibration experiments are made in order to investigate the dynamical behaviour of the systems. For both systems, it is observed the capability of changing the equilibrium position due to phase transformations leading to hysteretic behaviour, or due to temperature changes which also induce phase transformations and therefore, change in stiffness. Both situations are investigated by promoting temperature changes and also pre-tension of the springs. This article shows several experimental tests that allow one to obtain a general comprehension of the dynamical behaviour of SMA systems. Results show the general thermo-mechanical behaviour of SMA dynamical systems and the obtained conclusions can be applied in distinct situations as in rotor-bearing systems.

  • A HEV-relay plays a significant role as a mechanical switch which determines the operation of a gasoline engine or an electric motor in a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV). The HEV-relay has critical two problems in the operating process. First, the unstable current can occur in the operating process of the HEV-relay due to the severe bounce between moving and fixed electrode. Second, noises occur due to impact between electrodes in HEV-relay. In this research, spring properties such as stiffness and initial compression force, and electrode shape are designed to reduce the bounce time and noises caused by impact between moving and fixed electrode. The operating process of HEV-relay is simulated using LS-DYNA3D as explicit finite element code. The optimum spring properties are determined using the response surface method (RSM) as the design methodology, and the electrode shape is newly designed through the modifying the stiffness of moving and fixed electrode.

  • Recently, there are a number of studies over dynamic analysis for minimizing vibration of flexible structures such as solar panel for agility of high-agility satellite. The traditional studies perform dynamic analysis of a solar panel assumed as rigid structure since the stiffness of solar panel is higher than the stiffness of solar panel's hinge spring. However, there are vibrations that have modes of bending and torsion when high-agility satellite rotate speedily. This vibrations result in delaying safety time of satellite or degrading image quality. This paper presents dynamic analysis's technique of satellites including the spring hinge of solar panel and flexible structural solar panel's effects described as the linear equation of motion using Lagrange's theorem, and verifies the validity of an established dynamic analysis's technique of satellites by comparing the finite element method. In addition high-agility satellite's dynamic characteristics of a torque profile are analyzed from the established dynamic analysis's technique of satellites.

  • Compared to other types of power, hydraulic energy is the most commonly used for heavy vehicles and ships because it has fewer location and space constraints, and its controllability can be maintained even under adverse conditions. Operators have controlled a main control valve of ship winches by pushing or pulling the lever, which is directly connected to the spool. However, because of the spatial arrangement, the importance of remote control valves has emerged. In this paper, experiments of the hysteresis characteristics were performed by analyzing the remote-control valve using a valve tester and RA2300. The validity was verified by comparing with the analytical model using SimulationX as the hydraulic analysis program. This study examined the effects of the spool's notch (Non, End-mill, and Spherical) and the effects of stiffness and pre-load of the spool spring on Spool stroke, open area, and hysteresis characteristics. It is considered possible to reduce the cost and the, trial and error process in designing remote-control valves in the future.

  • This paper presents the performance improvement of an EQS (Eradic Quake System) device applied to a nuclear power plant. For the nuclear facility, the EQS device needs to be ensured to have high quality, flexibility of design and reliability. To improve the reliability of the design, the hysteresis of the device must be exactly predicted. The friction coefficient of PTFE (PolyTetraFluoroEthylene) and the stiffness of the MER-Spring are considered as the factors influencing the hysteresis curve. In this paper, those factors are analysed to predict the behavior of the device and to improve the equipment of the EQS device. The results of the improved EQS device have been verified via a tests to be comparable with the predicted results. The estimation results indicate that considering those factors is more appropriate than the results of the previous design and method.
