  • To improve the prediction result with enhanced reliability of domestic Performance-Based Design (PBD), actual scale fire tests were carried out on products made of plastics from sales facility combustibles. The commercial buildings were separated into single and multiple combustibles for the experimentation of fire spread caused by the sales shelves where the various combustible materials are displayed. A according to the maximum heat release rate, exposed area and weight of the combustible material, the results revealed a linear relationship of as 93% and 89%. In addition, analysis of the gas concentrations for various combustibles showed that $CO_2$ has a linear relationship, whereas the CO concentration indicated exponential function. These results can be applied to reliable fire source information in PBD of plastic fire source in commercial buildings. This may be applied as fire source information representative of a plastic fire in commercial buildings through additional experiment using the area of the shelf in actual commercial buildings.

  • For fires in ship accommodation areas, if it is possible to predict the pattern in which fire will spread and suggest proper countermeasures according to a situation using a fire simulation tool, fire damage may be reduced. However, fire simulations have a practical limit: a significant amount of time is required to analyze the results due to the size of the computational domain and the number of grids. Therefore, in this study, applicable grid size for fire simulations to predict fire patterns in ship accommodation areas was analyzed, and a generation method was conducted to predict fire behavior in real time. As a result, a value within 0.25[m] was judged appropriate as an applicable grid size for ship accommodation areas. Also, in comparison with studies using a single mesh generation method, the visibility value was similar, within 4.3 %, as was the temperature value, within 8.3 %, when a multi mesh generation method was used, showing a decline of 80 % in analysis time. Therefore, it was confirmed that composing a grid using multi mesh was effective for reducing analysis time.

  • Introduction of new design tools has been required to optimally design and operate the ventilation system of long vehicle tunnels.. The demand has led to wide spread use of the simulation technique throughout the would to analysis the dynamic relationship among the variables associated with vehicle tunnel ventilation. This paper aims at performing on-site study at local tunnels to test the applicability of NETVEN, a simulation model vehicle tunnel ventilation. The study was carried out at four urban as well as highway tunnels model of vehicle tunnel ventilation. The study was carried out at four urban as well as highway tunnels employing different ventilation systems as well as traffic methods. There were some discrepancies sound between the simulation output and measurements and the following four factors are considered to mainly cause those disagreement. (1) The real situation shows distinctive transient and retarding characteristics with respect to air flow and contaminant dispersion, while ventilation forces are not steady-state and in particular those traffic and climatic variables show significant instantaneous variation. (3) Near the exit portal, the CO levels show bigger differences. The general trend is that data with higher CO concentrations carry bigger discrepancies. Turbulent diffusion is though to be the main reason for it and also contribute to the fact hat the highest CO concentrations are found at the locations somewhat inward, not at the exit portals. (4) Higher traffic rate results in higher discrepancies of ventilation velocity. Along with the exhaust characteristics, the vehicle aerodynamic characteristics need to be studied continuously in order to reduce the velocity disagreement.

  • We performed landslide flume tests to analyze characteristics of landslide occurrence and change in the ground materials due to rainfall infiltration. The test apparatus is composed of flume, rainfall simulator, and measurement sensors and landslides were triggered by heavy rainfall (Intensity=200 mm/hr) sprinkled at the above of an artificial slope. The measurement sensors for matric suction and volumetric water content were installed with 3 sets at shallow (GL-0.2 m), middle (GL-0.4 m), and deep depth (GL-0.6 m) in the slope and the tests were performed with in-situ, loose, and dense condition of each weathered soils of granite, gneiss, and mudstone. The analyses show that surface erosion was dominant in initial time of the test due to heavy rainfall and then landslides occur following locally happened transverse tension cracks. The characteristics of landslide were both shallow failure because of a spread of wetting front induced by the rainfall infiltration and retrogressive failure. While the matric suction was decreased rapidly without any precursor in the soil saturation, the volumetric water content was increased gradually, reached its maximum value, and then decreased rapidly with landslide.

  • Inauthentic resources can be easily spread by P2P (Peer-to-Peer) participants due to the openness and anonymity of P2P networks. A possible way to restrict the distribution of inauthentic resources and prevent malicious peers from joining P2P networks is to exploit peers' reputation which reflect their past behaviors and are also helpful to predict peers' future behaviors. There is a possibility that some peers intentionally plays along with other peers in order to increase/decrease its reputation through false feedback exchanges. Therefore, we propose a new reputation management scheme, called TrustRRep (Trustable Resource sharing service using Reputation) scheme, which improves the trustworthiness and efficiency of P2P networks by identifying peers who give false feedback. The TrustRRep scheme is also capable of providing peers with the trustworthiness of shared resources by discriminating resources distributed by malicious peers. We implement the proposed TrustRRep scheme on the NS-2 simulator for evaluating its performance compared to the recent reputation management work available in literature. A case study on simulations shows that the proposed reputation management scheme yields efficient performance in terms of the minimal download ratio and dissemination of inauthentic resources, the efficient identification of peers who give false feedback, and the provisioning of the trustworthiness of peers' reputation. It also shows that the proposed TrustRRep scheme imposes the restrictions of participating P2P networks on a malicious peers by diminishing its trust value.

  • This study focuses on assessing risks which might occur in operation stage of CAES storage cavern and analyzing fire scenarios for the risk that have been assessed with highest risk level. Risks in operation stage were categorized into upper risk group and lower risk group. Components of upper risk group are technical risk, facility risk and natural disaster risk. Lower risk group is composed of 11 sub-risks. 20 experts were chosen to survey questionnaires. ANP model was applied to analyze the relative importance of 11 sub-risks. Results of risk analysis were compared with risk criterion to set risk priorities, and the highest risk was determined to be 'occurrence of the fire within the management opening'. Three fire scenarios were developed for the highest risk level and FDS (Fire dynamics Simulator) was used to analyze these scenarios. No. 3 scenario which air blows from tunnel into outside atmosphere represented that a rate of smoke spread was the fastest among three fire scenarios and a smoke descended most quickly below the limit line of breathing. Thus, No. 3 scenario turned out to be the most unfavorable condition when operating staffs were evacuated from access tunnel.

  • Even at this point in the era of digital transformation, we are still facing many problems in the safety sector that cannot prevent the occurrence or spread of human casualties. When you are in an unexpected emergency, it is often difficult to respond only with human physical ability. Human casualties continue to occur at construction sites, manufacturing plants, and multi-use facilities used by many people in everyday life. If you encounter a situation where normal judgment is impossible in the event of an emergency at a life site where there are still many safety blind spots, it is difficult to cope with the existing manual guidance method. New variable guidance technology, which combines artificial intelligence and digital twin, can make it possible to prevent casualties by processing large amounts of data needed to derive appropriate countermeasures in real time beyond identifying what safety accidents occurred in unexpected crisis situations. When a simple control method that divides and monitors several CCTVs is digitally converted and combined with artificial intelligence and 3D digital twin control technology, intelligence augmentation (IA) effect can be achieved that strengthens the safety decision-making ability required in real time. With the enforcement of the Serious Disaster Enterprise Punishment Act, the importance of distributing a smart location guidance system that urgently solves the decision-making delay that occurs in safety accidents at various industrial sites and strengthens the real-time decision-making ability of field workers and managers is highlighted. The smart location guidance system that combines artificial intelligence and digital twin consists of AIoT HW equipment, wireless communication NW equipment, and intelligent SW platform. The intelligent SW platform consists of Builder that supports digital twin modeling, Watch that meets real-time control based on synchronization between real objects and digital twin models, and Simulator that supports the development and verification of various safety management scenarios using intelligent agents. The smart location guidance system provides on-site monitoring using IoT equipment, CCTV-linked intelligent image analysis, intelligent operating procedures that support workflow modeling to immediately reflect the needs of the site, situational location guidance, and digital twin virtual fencing access control technology. This paper examines the limitations of traditional fixed passive guidance methods, analyzes global technology development trends to overcome them, identifies the digital transformation properties required to switch to intelligent variable smart location guidance methods, explains the characteristics and components of AI-based public facility smart fire safety integrated system (ISFS).
