This study was carried out to elucidate the effects of adjuvants on physicochemical properties and pest control efficacy of pesticide spray solution. Spray droplet sizes of pesticide solution decreased by addition of adjuvants even though its effect varied according to the pesticides. The adhesive effect of pesticides sprayed on target crops by addition of adjuvants varied according to the properties, the application methods, and the spray volume of pesticides. Wash-off of the deposited amount of active ingredients of the solution of tricyclazole WP and fenobucarb EC by simulated rainfall after spraying on rice plants dramatically reduced by adding adjuvants. The retained amount of active ingredients of the pesticides were $1.5{\sim}4.1$ times higher than those without adjuvants when subjected to simulated rainfall 6 hours after spraying. Addition of adjuvants to the propanil EC spray solution enhanced the control efficacy in barnyard grass, Echinocloa crus-galli Beauv. by $8{\sim}30%$, which showed a potential to reduce pesticide use.
In order to know the residual pattern of some pesticides and predict to the degradation period until below MRL, we experimented chlorothalonil, indoxacarb, lufenuron, metalaxyl and methomyl for Chinese cabbage. They were frequently detected pesticides in Chinese cabbage by NAQS (National Agricultural product Quality management Service) monitoring survey. In this experiment, we sprayed those pesticides 10days before harvest and analyzed 0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 10 day samples to establish logical equation and to calculate $DT_{50}0$. During the cultivating period, the residue amount of chlorothalonil was changed from $55.58\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ (0 day) to $20.08\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ (10 day), $DT_{50}$ was 7.45 days, indoxacarb was $7.85\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ (0 day) to $1.46\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ (10 day), and 4.2 days, lufenuron was $1.57\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ (0 day) to $0.49\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ (10 day), and 5.85 days, metalaxyl was $8.12\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ (0 day) to $0.10\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ (10 day), and 175 days, and methomyl was $11.51\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ (0 day) to $0.80\;mg\;kg^{-1}$ (10 day), and 2.42 days at single dose application, respectively. The $DT_{50}$ of double amount in those pesticides were 9.05 days in chlorothatonil, 7.09 days in indoxacarb, 8.82 days in lufenuron, 3.32 days in metalaxyl, and 2.72 days in methomyl, respectively.
The residue analysis of the insecticide thiodicarb in sweet persimmon was analyzed with a gas chromatograph equipped with nitrogen phosphorus detector(NPD) to evaluate efficacy of analysis method and safety of thiodicarb in persimmon. Minimum detectable amount of methomyl oxime, hydrolysate of thiodicarb, was 0.2 ng and detection limit of thiodicarb was 0.05 ppm. The mean recoveries evaluated from untreated samples spiked at 0.5 ppm and 2.5 ppm were $93.9{\pm}3.9$ and $92.8{\pm}2.0%$, respectively. When thiodicarb was sprayed onto the sweet persimmon two times until 40 and 30 days before harvest, three times until 40, 30 and 21 days before harvest, and four times until 40, 30, 21 and 14 days before harvesting, the mean residual amount in sweet persimmon were $1.50{\pm}0.04$, $1.86{\pm}0.04$ and $2.11{\pm}0.12$ ppm, respectively. It would be safe when thiodicarb 40% WP is treated four times 14 days before harvesting to control fruit moth in sweet persimmon.

Purpose: As corn oil is semi-drying oil, it has more double bonds than non-drying oil and is easier to combine with oxygen. In addition, among the causes of spontaneous ignition, accidents caused by oil-soaked cloths due to oxidative heat are gradually increasing. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to understand the characteristics of spontaneous combustion according to the number of towels and the amount of corn oil at 65℃. Method: After setting the test temperature to 65℃, 25ml, 50ml, 75ml of corn oil per towel was sprayed. The central temperature of the sample rises above the set temperature. It was determined, and when the central temperature of the sample became similar to the set temperature, it was determined as non-igniting. Result: After evenly distributing 25ml of corn oil per towel, as a result of the experiment, 5 towels did not ignite, and 10 and 15 towels ignited. Also, as a result of an experiment using 50ml and 75ml of corn oil per towel, spontaneous ignition occurred when the number of towels was 5, 10, or 15 sheets. Conclusion: Even a small amount can cause a fire if the conditions for spontaneous ignition are met.
Objectives : Atopic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by typically distributed eczematous skin lesion with pruritus, lichenification and dry skin. In this study, we performed to assess the therapeutic effects of co-treatment of Chenilyeomgamibang (CGB) and Chenggihaedok-san (CHS, C&C) on the TNCB(trinitrochlorobenzene)-induced atopic dermatitis in NC/Nga mice, characterized by the onset of atopic dermatitis along with an increase the number of inflammatory cells and dysregulation of Th2 cytokines. Methods : Defined amount of CGB was sprayed on mice skin and CHS was simultaneously orally administrated to TNCB treated NC/Nga mice for 5 weeks. The immune cell types were caracterized by flow cytometry using each specific antibody. The amount of Th2 cytokines in serum and splenocytes culture supernatant were measured by ELISA. Results : Administration of C&C significantly reduced clinical dermatitis severity including pruritus, edema, eczematous and erythema. Histological findings indicated that the thickening of epidermis/dermis and dermal infiltration of inflammatory cells were dramatically reduced. Flow cytometry analysis showed that infiltrated immune cell numbers of CCR3+, B220+/IgE+, Gr-1+/CD11b+, and CD117+ were significantly reduced in C&C-treated dorsal skin lesion. Furthermore, T cell composition rate in PBMC was also dramatically decreased by the treatment. C&C greatly down-regulated production of Th2 cytokines including IL-4, IL-5, IL-13 in the serum. The down- regulatory effects of C&C on these Th2 cytokines production were also detected in CD3/ CD28 activated splenocytes. Conclusions : These results indicated that C&C is a plausible therapeutic agent for treatment of atopic dermatitis through regulating the Th2 skewed immune system.
Photosensitizing activities of some photosensitizers (PS) for the artificial diminution of pesticide residues on horticultural crops were investigated. Five fungicides, iprodione, bitertanol, chlorothalonil, myclobutanil, and dichlofluanid were sprayed on apple and cucumber, followed by the application of each selected photosensitizer, and the samples were collected 0, 1, 3, 7, 15 days after the photosensitizer application and analyzed for the residual amounts. Of the 40 photosensitizers tested, six selected on the basis of the eliminating effect of pesticide residues were PS-1 (aromatic ketone), PS-2 (aromatic amine), PS-3 (quinone), PS-4 (inorganic compound), PS-5 (organic acid salt), and PS-6 (semiconductor photocatalyst). The residual amount of iprodione after 15 days of the application of PS-1 was 74% of that of the control. For bitertanol, the residual amount after 15 days of the application of PS-1 accounted for 78% of that of the control. The residual amounts of chlorothalonil after 1 day of the application of PS-1 and PS-2 accounted for 56 and 54% of those of the control, respectively. The residual amounts of iprodione on cucumber after 3 days of the application of the photosensitizers PS-1 and PS-2 were 44 and 67% of those of the untreated control, respectively. For myclobutanil, the residual amount after 15 days of the application of PS-6 accounted for 45% of that of the control. In case of dichlofluanid, the residual amount after 3 days of the application of PS-1 accounted for 44% of that of the control. Based on the results, PS-1 turned out to be the most promising photosensitizer for the accelerated photodegradation of the above fungicides on apple and cucumber.
Changes of ethylene production, photosynthesis, respiration and sulfur content of leaves were investigated in some horticultural plants injured by $SO_2$ exposure. Concurrently the effects of $AgNO_3$, succinic acid- 2, 2-dimethylhydrazide (daminozide) and benomyl spray on reduction of $SO_2$ damage in the plants were examined. 1. The amount of ethylene production was significantly different among species of plants and showed higher and earlier peak at 5 ppm $SO_2$ compared with 2.5 ppm $SO_2$ exposure. 2. $AgNO_3$ sprayed on leaves significantly inhibited ethylene production in Cedrus deodara and Forsythia koreana. And it reduced the defoliation of F. koreana occured by $SO_2$ damage. 3. Photosynthetic rate of Helianthus annuus was decreased markedly after 4 -hr exposures to 5 ppm SO, but it was not reduced during exposure to 2.5 ppm $SO_2$. F. koreana showed a little changes in photosynthetic rate after abrupt reduction at the early stage of $SO_2$ exposure regardless of $SO_2$ concentration. 4. The rate of respiration was increased or decreased markedly in propotion to concentration and hours of $SO_2$ exposure compared with control. Daminozide and benomyl showed a little effects on reduction of respiratory changes occured by $SO_2$ damage in C. deodara and H. annuus but there was no effect when $AgNO_3$ was sprayed on C. deodara. 5. Sulfur content of leaves was increased more rapidly at 5 ppm than at 2.5 ppm $SO_2$ exposure. But the injury in 5 ppm $SO_2$ exposure was found out at low sulfur content compared with 2.5 ppm $SO_2$ exposure.
Various rates of 2, 4-2 were sprayed on 2 and 3 year old ginseng plants as fouler spray to define the critical concentration. No apparent plant injury was noticeable for those ginseng plants when application concentration of 2, 4-D doubled the recommended dosage (70 mil 10a). Neither abnormal fouler change occurred nor any inhibition in leaf and stem growth was resulted for the plants treated with 2, 4-D concentrated two times of the recommended dosage. When the rates of 2, 4-D application were increased greater than this level, injury ratings increased linearly with the rates of 2, 4-D application and plant growth was inhibited. Ethylene gas was not produced from the ginseng plant treated with 2 times concentrated 2, 4-D, how- ever the ginseng plants produced 0.03 to 0.09 ppd ethylene gas when the rate of application were increased 3 and 4 times, respectively. On the other hand the soybean treated with the recommended amount of 2i-D produced ethylene gas of 10-20 times higher compared with ginseng plants and died. Photosynthesis ability of the ginseng leaf was significantly decreased by 2, 4.D fouler application but it was recovered 4 weeks after 2, 4-D fouler treatment. The herbicide 2, 4-D was appreciated to 2, 3 and 4 years old ginseng plants as fouler spray with the rates of 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 times of the recommended dosage to define the effects of 2, 4-D on the plant growth and root yield of the ginseng, There were no significant differences in the leaf and stem growth between untreated and 2, 4-D treated plant. Berry maturing of 3 and 4 year old ginseng was not influenced by 2, 4-D. The root weight of 4 years old ginseng plant was not reduced b). application of 2, 4-D concentrated 2 times of the recommended dosage. Application time of the herbicide 2, 4-D had no effects on the leaf or stem growth of 2, 3 and 4 year old year old ginseng plants. When the ginseng seedling was treated with 2, 4-D, detrimental phenomena as stem bending and deceleration of seedling leaf margin occurred, but stem bending was recovere d in a few day.
The antibiotic bacterium JS7901, one of the eighty three antibiotic microorganisms which have been is elated in the surburbs of CheongJu-city, showed the most effective antimicrobial activities against test organisms, both bacteria and fungi. Among the different culture media Soytone Sugar medium was the most effective for growth and activity of the JS7901 antibiotic bacterium a against both Escherichia coli and Staphyllococcus aureus by the cylinder plate method. The higher the sugar content, was, the greater the antibiotic amount of substances of JS7901 were produced in the soytone sugar media. The antibiotic bacterium, JS7901 appeared to have a broad activity spectrum showing inhibition in Vitro against gram positive and negative bacteria and plant disease fungi. In general, the active substances were not transferred into organic solvents. Only a small portion of the activity was transferred into ethyl ether and was also adsorbed to active carbon when the cultured broth was also adsorbed to active carbon when the cultured broth was at $pH\;2.0\~4.0$. On adjusting at pH 8.0, the activity disappeared. The crude active substances could be obtained by means of vacuum drying method and still shelved strong activity. The dried active rake was solved by solvents and crystallized into various shapes. The active substances were developed on the silica gel plate in the solvent system of n-butanol-acetic acid-water(3 : 1 : 1) and gave 5 pinkish colored spots when sprayed with $0.2\%$ ninhydrine in ethanol. The upper 5th spot, which was the result of using disc plate method with Escherichia coli was the strongest of these spots.
This research was carried out to test and analyze capacity of the long distance sprayer fan in large livestock farmhouses. Long distance sprayer was manufactured to be able to spray a lot of water, which was a solvent for agricultural chemicals and black dye with the maximum spraying distance of 140 m and the effective spraying distance of 100 m. The spraying quantity and the distance were measured the intensity values of images within A4 papers, which absorbed the agricultural chemicals by spraying by binary image processing. These A4 papers were fixed upon the height of 1 m from soil ground at regular 10 m interval. After the A4 papers were collected and analyzed the intensity values of gray level. Gray level was ranged from 0 to 255, where 0 was black and 255 was white. A4 paper was fallen down from the stick at 10 m distance, because there were too large amount of sprayed water with black dye. Also, the paper showed low gray level at distance 30 m because of dropping lots of black water. The intensity value of gray level was showed almost less than 200 on the A4 papers between the distance 20 m and 100 m, which meant equality of spraying quantity. Additionally, it was possible to spay agricultural chemicals of until 180 m. Throughout this research, long distance sprayer could apply for preventing hoof-and-mouth disease in large livestock farmhouses.
