The purpose of this study was to improve the desalination performance by using split electrodes in the capacitive desalination process. The experiment was carried out by measuring the desalination efficiency of the NaCl aqueous solution according to the partitioning of the electrode at 20 mL/min flow rate, 1.2 V, 3 min adsorption conditions, and -1 V, 1 min desorption conditions. The desalination efficiency for the non-divided electrodes with a surface area of $146cm^2$ reached 40% while the divided electrode with a surface area of $133cm^2$ showed a desalination efficiency of 57%. The desalination efficiency of the same split electrode was 49% at 2 cm divided interval and 57% at 1cm divided interval. The desalination efficiency of the split electrode was higher than that of the normal CDI and narrower divided intervals increased the performance.
The efficacy improvement issues in a unit discharge cell have been approached from the structural considerations. The tested cell designs include (a) a coplanar type with annular auxiliary electrode buried in barrier ribs, (b) a coplanar type with split auxiliary electrodes also burred in barrier ribs and (c) a coaxial type with a floating electrode stacked on the base electrode. From spatiotemporally resolved optical images of near-IR emission taken by a gated-ICCD camera and relative VUV emission intensity estimated by laser absorption spectroscopy, the differences in the discharge and light emission performances of those three cell types have been compared and discussed.
Spin injection and detection in lateral spin valves with double nonmagnetic bottom electrodes are investigated theoretically. Spin-polarized current injected from a magnetic electrode is split to two bottom electrodes, and nonlocal spin signals between the other magnetic electrode and the nonmagnetic electrodes are calculated from drift-diffusion equations. It is shown that the spin signal is approximately proportional to the associated current in the electrode.
Vacuum interrupters that is used in various switchgear components such as circuit breakers, distribution switches, contactors, etc. spreads the arc uniformly over the surface of the contacts. The electrode of vacuum interrupters is used sintered Cu-Cr material satisfied with good electrical and mechanical characteristics. Because the closing velocity is 1-3m/s, the deformation of the material of electrodes depends on the strain rate and the dynamic behavior of the sintered Cu-Cr material is a key to investigate the impact characteristics of the electrodes. The dynamic response of the material at the high strain-rate is obtained from the split Hopkinson pressure bar test using cylinder type specimens. Experimental results from both quasi-static and dynamic compressive tests with the split Hopkinson pressure bar apparatus are interpolated to construct the Johnson-Cook equation as the constitutive relation that should be applied to simulation of the dynamic behavior of electrodes. To evaluate impact characteristic of a vacuum interrupter, simulation is carried out with five parameters such as initial velocity, added mass of a movable electrode, wipe spring constant, initial offset of a wipe spring and virtual fixed spring constant.

The shingled photovoltaic module can be produced by joining divided solar cells into a string of busbarless structure and arranging them in series and parallel to produce a module, in order to produce a high output per unit area. This paper reports a study to optimize solar cell electrode structure for shingled photovoltaic module fabrication. The characteristics of each electrode structure were analyzed according to the simulation program as follow: 80.62% fill factor in the six-junction solar cell electrode structure and 19.23% efficiency in the five-junction electrode structure. Therefore, the split electrode structure optimized for high-density and high-output shingled module fabrication is the five-junction solar cell electrode structure.

Concrete poles(CP) are popular supports for distribution lines. Various types of grounding electrode, such as copper-clad rods, have been used to maintain CP's ground resistance under the required value. The buried part of CP can also have structural grounding effect because of its iron reinforcing rods inside CPs. In this paper, we measured the total ground current injected into CP ground while measuring the ground current splitting to the metal electrode as well as the total injecting current. By this, it was able to measure the ground current splitting to CP structure. Based on the measured results, interrelationship between ground resistance of metal electrodes and current split factor to CP structure was analyzed.
We propose new driving schemes, asymmetry and long gap mode, of PDP having auxiliary electrode between scan and common electrode. For the asymmetric modes, the auxiliary electrode located nearly center of the primary electrodes is connected to the scan of common electrode during all periods of reset, address and sustain. For the long gap mode, it is electrically disconnected or maintained at dc voltage of Vs/2 during sustain period except the first several sustain pulses. The proposed structure and driving method can provide higher luminous efficacy by minimizing consumption energy. The effectiveness of the new driving schemes has been investigated for various Xe partial pressure conditions.

Vacuum interrupters in order to be used in various switch-gear components such as circuit breakers, distribution switches, contactors, etc. spread the arc uniformly over the surface of the contacts. The electrodes of vacuum interrupters are made of sinter-forged Cu-Cr materials for good electrical and mechanical characteristics. Since the closing velocity is 1-2m/s and impact deformation of the electrode depends on the strain rate at that velocity, the dynamic behavior of the sinter-forged Cu-Cr is a key to investigate the impact characteristics of the electrodes. The dynamic response of the material at the high strain rate is obtained from the split Hopkinson pressure bar test using disc-type specimens. Experimental results from both quasi-static and dynamic compressive tests are Interpolated to construct the Johnson-Cook model as the constitutive relation that should be applied to simulation of the dynamic behavior of the electrodes. The impact characteristics of a vacuum interrupter are investigated with computer simulations by changing the value of five parameters such as the initial velocity of a movable electrode, the added mass of a movable electrode, the wipe spring constant, initial offset of a wipe spring and the virtual fixed spring constant.
Double-sided photovoltaic (PV) modules have received significant attention in recent years as a technology that can achieve higher annual energy production rates than single-sided modules. The shingled technology is a promising method for manufacturing high-density and high-power modules. These modules are divided by laser and joined with electrically conductive adhesives. The output efficiency of the divided cells depends on the division pattern and the electrode pattern, making it important to understand the output characteristics. In this study, the output characteristics of large-area double-sided light-receiving shingled cells with different split patterns and electrode patterns were investigated. The M6 size, with 6 divisions in the electrode pattern, had the highest efficiency when using 142 front fingers and 146 rear fingers. The M10 size, with 7 divisions, had the highest output when using 150 fingers equally in the front and rear. The M12 size, also with 7 divisions, showed the highest output characteristics when using 192 front fingers and 208 rear fingers.

In this study, we investigate terahertz (THz) generation by a photoconductive antenna with electrodes in the shape of split-ring resonators. According to our theoretical investigation based on a lumped-circuit model, the inductance of this electrode structure leads to resonant behavior of the photo-induced current. Hence, near the resonance frequency the spectral components generated by a resonant photoconductive antenna can be greater than those produced by a non-resonant one. For experimental verification, a resonant photoconductive antenna, which possesses a resonance mode at 0.6 THz, and a non-resonant photoconductive antenna with stripe-shaped electrodes were fabricated on a semi-insulating GaAs substrate. The THz generation by both of the photoconductive antennas demonstrated a good agreement with the theoretically expected results. The observed relationship between the resonant electrodes of the photoconductive antenna and the generated THz spectrum can be further employed to design a narrow-band THz source with an on-demand frequency.
