We developed a highly refractive index planarization layer showing a very smooth surface for organic light-emitting diode (OLED) light extraction, and we successfully prepared a highly efficient white OLED device with an embossed nano-structure and highly refractive index planarization layers. White OLEDs act as an internal out-coupling layer. We used a spin-coating method and two types of $TiO_2$ solutions for a planarization of the embossed nano-structure on a glass substrate. The first $TiO_2$ solution was $TiO_2$ sol, which consists of $TiO_2$ colloidal particles in an acidic aqueous solution and several organic additives. The second solution was an organic and inorganic hybrid solution of $TiO_2$. The surface roughness ($R_a$) and refractive index of the $TiO_2$ planarization films on a flat glass were 0.4 nm and 2.0 at 550 nm, respectively. The J-V characteristics of the OLED including the embossed nano-structure and the $TiO_2$ planarization film were almost the same as those of an OLED with a flat glass, and the luminous efficacy of the aforementioned OLED was enhanced by 34% compared to that of an OLED with a flat glass.

The effect of weak dielectric silicone dioxide($SiO_2$) embedded in polyfluorene(PFO) emitting layer of polymer-based multi structure OLED was investigated. Indium tin oxide(ITO)/poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS)/poly(9,9-di-n-octylfluorenyl-2,7-diyl)(PFO)/2,2,2"-(1,3,5-benzinetriyl)-tris(1-phenyl-1-H-benzimidazole) (TPBi)/aluminum(Al) structure OLED was fabricated by spin-coating method. Applied electric field causes some effect on $SiO_2$ in PFO layer. Thus, interaction between polymers and affected $SiO_2$ might generate electrical and luminance properties change. Experimental results, show the reduced threshold voltage of 6 V(from 23 V to 17 V). The maximum current density was rather increased from $71A/m^2$ to $610A/m^2$ and maximum brightness was also increased from $7.19cd/m^2$ to $41.03cd/m^2$, 9 and 6 times each. Additionally we obtained colour broadening result due to the increasing of blue-green band emission. Consequently we observed that electrical and luminance properties are enhanced by adding $SiO_2$ and identified the possibility of controlling the emission colour of OLED device according to colour broadening.
We achieved high efficiency and long lifetime in small-molecule organic light-emitting diodes using a blend of polyaniline-based conducting polymer and a perfluorinated ionomer as a hole injection layer (HIL). The HIL formed by single spin coating greatly enhanced the surface work function and thus the hole injection from the anode, which resulted in great improvement in device luminous efficiency. We find that the solution processed HIL outperforms the conventional vacuum-deposited small molecule HIL in terms of the device performance.
We have studied the effects of oxygen partial pressure change on the physical properties of the $La_{0.7}Ca_{0.3}MnO_3$ thin films grown by Pulsed laser Deposition. Contrary to the previous reports, thin films of high curie temperature were successfully synthesized at very low oxygen partial pressure ($1.0{\times}10^{-5}$, $1.0{\times}10^{-6}Torr$). These observations indicate that the shape of plasma plume and the kinetic energy of the ablated species in it play an important role in determining the quality of samples. We also fabricated p-n heterojunction of $La_{0.7}Ca_{0.3}MnO_3$ and Nb-doped $SrTiO_3$. The current-voltage curves show rectifying behavior and, furthermore, the current responses to the applied magnetic field, indicating a potential possibility of device applications.
The following series of blue EL polymers was synthesized using the Suzuki polymerization method: poly(3',6'-bis(3,7-dimethyloctyloxy)-9,9'-spirobifluorene-2,7-diyl) poly[$(OC_{10})_2$-spirobifluorene], poly{3',6'-bis(3,7-dimethyloctyloxy)-9,9'-2,7-diyl-co-4-(3,7-dimethyloctyloxy) phenyl-diphenylamine-4',4'-diyl} poly[$(OC_{10})_2$-spirobifluorene-TPA] (5:1, 9:1) and poly{3',6'-bis(3,7-dimethyloctyloxy)-9,9'-spirobifluorene-2,7-diyl-co-4-(6-((3-methyloxetan-3-yl)methoxy)hexyloxyphenyl-bisphenylamine-4',4'-diyl) poly[$(OC_{10})_2$-spirobifluorene-TPA-oxetane]. The weight average molecular weight (Mw) and polydispersity of the resulting polymers ranged from $1.6{\times}10^4-1.5{\times}10^5$ and 1.77-2.31, respectively. The resulting polymers were completely soluble in common organic solvents and were easily spin-coated onto an indium tin oxide (ITO) substrate. The polymers exhibited strong blue emission peaking at 450 nm. The maximum brightness and luminance efficiency were $9,960\;cd/m^2$ and 1.2 cd/A, respectively.

Micro-LED is a light-emitting diode smaller than 100 ㎛ in size. It attracts much attention due to its superior performance, such as resolution, brightness, etc., and is considered for various applications like flexible display and VR/AR. Micro-LED display requires a mass transfer process to move micro-LED chips from a LED wafer to a target substrate. In this study, we proposed a vacuum chuck method as a mass transfer technique. The vacuum chuck was fabricated with MEMS technology and PDMS micro-mold process. The spin-coating approach using a dam structure successfully controlled the PDMS mold's thickness. The vacuum test using solder balls instead of micro-LED confirmed the vacuum chuck method as a mass transfer technique.

Metal oxide gas sensors based on semiconductor type have attracted a great deal of attention due to their low cost, flexible production and simple usability. However, most works have been focused on n-type oxides, while the characteristics of p-type oxide gas sensors have been barely studied. An investigation on p-type oxides is very important in that the use of them makes possible the novel sensors such as p-n diode and tandem devices. Monoclinic cupric oxide (CuO) is p-type semiconductor with narrow band gap (~1.2 eV). This is composed of abundant, nontoxic elements on earth, and thus low-cost, environment-friendly devices can be realized. However, gas sensing properties of neat CuO were rarely explored and the mechanism still remains unclear. In this work, the neat CuO layers with highly ordered mesoporous structures were prepared by a template-free, one-pot solution-based method using novel ink solutions, formulated with copper formate tetrahydrate, hexylamine and ethyl cellulose. The shear viscosity of the formulated solutions was 5.79 Pa s at a shear rate of 1 s-1. The solutions were coated on SiO2/Si substrates by spin-coating (ink) and calcined for 1 h at the temperature of $200{\sim}600^{\circ}C$ in air. The surface and cross-sectional morphologies of the formed CuO layers were observed by a focused ion beam scanning electron microscopy (FIB-SEM) and porosity was determined by image analysis using simple computer-programming. XRD analysis showed phase evolutions of the layers, depending on the calcination temperature, and thermal decompositions of the neat precursor and the formulated ink were investigated by TGA and DSC. As a result, the formation of the porous structures was attributed to the vaporization of ethyl cellulose contained in the solutions. Mesoporous CuO, formed with the ink solution, consisted of grains and pores with nano-meter size. All of them were strongly dependent on calcination temperature. Sensing properties toward H2 and C2H5OH gases were examined as a function of operating temperature. High and fast responses toward H2 and C2H5OH gases were discussed in terms of crystallinity, nonstoichiometry and morphological factors such as porosity, grain size and surface-to-volume ratio. To our knowledge, the responses toward H2 and C2H5OH gases of these CuO gas sensors are comparable to previously reported values.

Vacuum deposited N,N-di-1-naphthyl-N,N-diphenyl-1,1'-biphenyl-4,4'-diamine (NPD) as a hole transporting (HTL) materials in OLEDs was placed on PEDOT-PSS, a hole injection layer (HIL). PEDOT-PSS was spin-coated on to the ITO glass. $C_{60}$-doped NPD-$C_{60}$(10 wt%) film was formed via co-evaporation process and the morphology of NPD-$C_{60}$ films was investigated using XRD and AFM. The J - V, L - V and current efficiency of multi -layered devices were characterized. According to XRD results, the deposited $C_{60}$ thin film was partially crystalline, but NPD-$C_{60}$ film was observed not to be crystalline, which indicates that $C_{60}$ molecules are uniformly dispersed in the NPD film. By using $C_{60}$-doped NPD-$C_{60}$ film as a HTL, the current density and luminance of multi-layered ITO/PEDOT-PSS/NPD-$C_{60}/Alq_3$/LiF/Al device were significantly increased by about 80% and its efficiency was improved by about 25% in this study.

We fabricated the polymer light emitting diodes (PLEDs) with ITO/PEDOT:PSS/PVK/PFO:MEH-PPV/LiF/Al structures. The effect of the thickness of PEDOT:PSS hole injection layer(HIL) on the electrical and optical properties of PLEDs was investigated. In addition, PVK hole transport layer(HTL) was introduced in the PLED device, and compared the properties of the PLEDS with and without PVX layer. All organic film layers were prepared by the spin coating method on the plasma treated ITO/glass substrates. As the thickness of PEDOT:PSS film layer decreased from about 80 nm to 50 nm, the luminance of PLED device increased from $220cd/m^2$에서 $450cd/m^2$. This may be ascribed to the increased transportation efficiency of the holes into the emission layer of PLED. The maximum current density and luminance were obtained fir the PLED device with PVX hole transport layer, showing that the current density and luminance were $268mA/cm^2\;and\;540cd/m^2$ at 12V, respectively. This values were improved by about 14% and 22% in current density and luminance compared with the PLED device without PVK layer.
MWCNT(multi-wall carbon nanotube)-doped PEDOT:PSS(poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate)), used as a HIL(hole injection layer) material in OLEDs(organic light emitting diodes), was spin-coated on to the ITO glass to form PEDOT:PSS-MWCNT nano composite thin film. Morphology and transparency characteristics of nano composite thin films with respect to the loading percent of MWCNT have been investigated using FT-IR, UV-Vis and SEM. Furthermore, ITO/PEDOT:PSS-MWCNT/NPD/$Alq_3$/Al devices were fabricated, and then J-V and L-V characteristics were investigated. Functional group-incorporated MWCNT was prepared by acid treatment and showed good dispersion property in PEDOT:PSS solution. PEDOT:PSS-MWCNT thin films possessed good transparency property. For multi-layered devices, it was shown that as the loading percent of MWCNT increased, the current density increased but the luminance dramatically decreased. It might be conclusively suggested that the enhanced charge mobility by MWCNT could increase the current density but the hole trapping property of MWCNT could dramatically decrease the hole mobility in the current devices.
