Effects of galaxy-galaxy encounters on galactic spin and central mass distribution

  • We use smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) models to study the evolution of galactic spin and the distribution of gas and young stars in the inner region of the galaxies through galaxy encounters. Specifically, we perform numerical simulations of interactions of a late- or an early-type galaxy with either a late- or an early-type galaxy with and without a gas halo at the closest approach distances of 25 and 50 kpc. We find that an early-type galaxy encountering a late-type galaxy have a higher galactic spin and more gas and young stars in the central region of the galaxy after the collision. We are analyzing the role of a gas halo on the changes of galactic spin and central mass distribution during various galaxy-galaxy encounters.

THE COMPLEX PERMEABILITY AND MATCHING FREQUENCY OF FERRITE MICROWAVE ABSORBER

  • The complex permeability dispersions and the microwave absorbing phenomena are investigated in ferrite microwave absorber. The complex permeability of NiZn ferrite, NiZnCo ferrite, and Y-type hexagonal ferrite were measured in 200MHz-14GHz range. Two types of resonances, the domain wall and the spin rotational resonance, were observed. With a ferrite particle with a diameter of about $1\;\mu\textrm{m}$, only spin rotational resonance were observed. The theoretical matching frequency is determined by plotting the measured complex permeability locus on the impedance matching solution map. One or two impedance matching phenomena are observed in the ferrite absorbers according to their complex permeability loci on the impedance matching solution map. The first matching frequency, found in the ferrite-rubber composites, which was higher than that of spin rotational resonance, increased with spin rotational resonance frequency.

Packing Density Parameters of Palladium Nanoparticle Monolayers Fabricated via Spin-Coating Electrostatic Self-Assembly

  • Spin-coating electrostatic self-assembly (SCESA) is utilized to fabricate a single layer of carboxylic-acid-coated Pd nanoparticles (NPs) (D??5 nm) on an oppositely charged surface. The packing density of a NP monolayer formed on a rotating solid substrate (3000 rpm) was examined with regards to various parameters, including the particle concentration, the pH, and the ionic strength of the solution. Initially, the packing density grew exponentially with increases in the particle concentration, up to a maximum value (of 8.4 ´ 1011/cm2) at 1.2 wt%. The packing density was also found to increase drastically as the pH decreased and the ionic strength of the solution increased; these trends can be attributed to a reduction in the interparticle repulsions among the NPs in the solution and on the substrate. The best result of this study was achieved in a 1.2 wt% solution at pH 8; under these conditions, an NP monolayer with the highest density (namely, 1.6 ´ 1012/cm2) was obtained.

  • 물의 양성자완화에 의하여 기생 강자성 ${\alpha}-Fe_{2}O_{3}$의 유효 자기능률 결정을 위한 이론식을 유도하였다. 그 이론식을 유도함에 있어서 그 결정입자의 대응전자스핀과 물분자의 양성자 스핀사이의 거리가 상대적 거리보다 오히려 동경벡터로 고려되어야 한다는 사실을 제외하고서 자유 상자성 이론들을 함유함고 있는 수용액에 적용된 수학적 과정과 정확히 동일하다는 것을 알았다. 또한 유도된 이론식에 의하여 계산된 결정입자의 유효자기능률이 Hiral에 의하여 결정된 실험치 잘 일치함을 알았다.

페로브스카이트 촉매에 의한 액화수소의 올소-파라 수소변환특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Ortho-para Hydrogen Conversion Characteristics of Liquefied Hydrogen by Perovskite Catalysts)

  • During the liquefaction of hydrogen, the ortho hydrogen is converted into the para form with heat release that evaporates the liquefied hydrogen into the gaseous one backwards. The ortho-para conversion catalysts are usually used during liquefaction to avoid such boil-off. In order to compare and analyze the performance of the ortho-para hydrogen conversion catalysts, in-situ FT-IR device was designed and manufactured to measure the para hydrogen conversion rate in real-time. $LaFeO_3$ and $La_{0.7}Sr_{0.3}Cu_{0.3}Fe_{0.7}O_3$ perovskite catalysts were prepared by the citrate sol-gel method and their spin conversion characteristics from ortho to para hydrogen were investigated by in-situ FTIR spectroscopy at 17K. It was found that the spin conversion was affected by surface area, particle size, and crystallite size of the catalysts. Thus, the $La_{0.7}Sr_{0.3}Cu_{0.3}Fe_{0.7}O_3$ perovskite catalyst that had higher surface area, higher crystallite size, and smaller particle size than $LaFeO_3$ showed the better spin conversion property of 32.3% at 17K in 120min interaction with the perovskite catalysts.

Polyimide Multilayer Thin Films Prepared via Spin Coating from Poly(amic acid) and Poly(amic acid) Ammonium Salt

  • Polyimide (PI) multilayer thin films were prepared by spin-coating from a poly(amic acid) (PAA) and poly(amic acid) ammonium salt (PAAS). PI was prepared from pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA) and 4,4'-oxydianiline (ODA) PAA. Different compositions of PAAS were prepared by incorporating triethylamine (TEA) into PMDA-ODA PAA in dimethylacetamide. PI multilayer thin films were spin-coated from PMDA-ODA PAA and PAAS. The PAAS comprising cationic and anionic moieties were spherical with a particle size of $20{\sim}40\;nm$. Some particles showed layers with ammonium salts, despite poor ordering. Too much salt obstructed the interaction between the polymer chains and caused phase separation. A small amount of salt did not affect the interactions of the interlayer structure but did interrupt the stacking between chains. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) showed that the average decomposition temperature of the thin films was $611^{\circ}C$. All the films showed almost single-step, thermal decomposition behavior. The nanostructure of the multilayer thin films was confirmed by X -ray reflectivity (XRR). The LF 43 film, which was prepared with a 4:3 molar ratio of PMDA and ODA, was comprised of uniformly spherical PAAS particles that influenced the nanostructure of the interlayer by increasing the interaction forces. This result was supported by the atomic force microscopy (AFM) data. It was concluded that the relationship between the uniformity of the PAAS particle shapes and the interaction between the layers affected the optical and thermal properties of PI layered films.

스핀업 유동에서의 비선형 에크만 분출 모형의 성능평가 (Performance Evaluation of Nonlinear Ekman Pumping Models for a Spin-up Flow)

  • 본 연구에서는 종횡비가 2인 직사각형 용기에 대한 스핀업 유동을 실험과 수치해석으로 연구하였다. 수치해석에서는 1차-, 2차- 에크만 펌핑 모형을 사용한 경우와 평정을 무시한 경우에 관해 유동장을 구하였으며, 실험에서는 고전적인 PIV 방법을 통하여 속도장을 구하였다. 연구결과, 1차-, 2차- 에크만 펌핑 모형은 실험과 유사하게 나타났으며, 펌핑을 무시한 경우는 상이한 유동양상을 보였다.

  • 직접적인 상호작용 없이 멀리 떨어져 있는 두개의 스핀-1/2 입자돈이 양자적으로 얽힐 수 있는 방법을 제시하였다. 이것은 국소적으로 양자 얽힘 상태에 있는 두개의 다른 입자들을 멀리 떨어져 있는 입자들에 각각 보내서 국소적으로 상호작용을 하면 떨어져 있는 입자를 양자 얽힘 상태로 바꿀 수 있다. 이것은 원래 국소적으로 얽혀있는 두 입자의 상태가 상호작용이 없는 다른 두 입자로 이동된 것을 알 수 있다. 이 프로세스가 양자 컴퓨터에서 중요한 게이트인 CNOT 게이트를 대신할 수 있음을 논의하였다.

  • The mechanism of the aerosol(mist) generation generally consists of spin-off, splash, and evaporation/condensation. Host researchers showed some theoretical model for predicting the particulate size and generation rate without real cutting in turning operation. These models were based on the spin-off mechanism, and verified good for modeling the process. However, in real machining, the cutting tool destroys the flow direction of the cutting fluid and generate the heat by the relative motion of between tool and workpicee, and so the mass loading of the mist is greatly increased as compared with non-cutting. In this paper, we show some experimental data that the mist formation characteristics of cutting is different from that of non-cutting.
