The wrinkling behavior of a thin sheet with perfect geometry is a kind of compressive instability. The compressive instability is influenced by many factors such as stress state mechanical properties of the sheet material geometry of the body contact conditions and plastic anisotropy. The analysis of compressive instability in plastically deforming body is difficult considering all the factors because the effects of the factors are very complex and the instability behavior may show wide variation for small deviation of the factors. In this study the bifurcation theory is introduced for the finite element analysis of puckering initiation and growth of a thin sheet with perfect geometry. All the above mentioned analysis and the post-bifurcation behavior is analyzed by introducing the branching scheme proposed by Riks. The finite element formulation is based on the incremental deformation theory and elastic-plastic material modeling. in order to investigate the effect of plastic anisotropy on the compressive instability a square plate that is subjected to compression in one direction and tension in the other direction is analyzed by the above-mentionedfinite element analysis. The critical stress ratios above which the buckling does not take place are found for various plastic anisotropic modeling method and discussed. Finally the effect of plastic anisotropy on the puckering behavior in the spherical cup deep drawing process is investigated.
Effects of particle property variation of cone crack shape according to impact velocity in silicon carbide materials were investigated. The damage induced by spherical impact having different material and size was different according to materials. The size of ring cracks induced on the surface of specimen increased with increase of impact velocity within elastic contact conditions. The impact of steel particle produced larger ring cracks than that of SiC particle. In case of high impact velocity, the impact of SiC particle produced radial cracks by the elastic-plastic deformation at impact regions. Also percussion cone was formed from the back surface of specimen when particle size become large and its impact velocity exceeded a critical value. Increasing impact velocity, zenithal angle of cone cracks in SiC material was linearly decreasing not effect of impact particle size. An empirical equation, $\theta=\theta_{st}-\upsilon_p(180-\theta_{st})(\rho_p/\rho_s)^{1/2}/415$, was obtained from the test data as a function of quasi-static zenithal angle of cone crack($\theta_{st}$), the density of impact particle(${\rho}_p$) and specimen(${\rho}_s$). Applying this equation to the another materials, the variation of zenithal angle of cone crack could be predicted from the particle impact velocity.

Plastic array lens are cheap to manufacture; however, plastic is not resistant to high temperatures and moisture. Optical glass represents a better solution but is a more-expensive alternative. Glass array lens can be produced using lithography or precision-molding techniques. The lithography process is commonly used, for instance, in the semiconductor industry; however, the manufacturing costs are high, the processing time is quite long, and spherical aberration is a problem. To obtain high-order aspherical shapes, mold-core manufacturing is conducted through ultra-precision grinding machining. In this paper, a $4{\times}1$ mold core was manufactured using an ultra-precision machine with a jig for the injection molding of an aspherical array lens. The machined mold core was measured using the Form TalySurf PGI 2+ contact-stylus profilometer. The measurement data of the mold core are suitable for the design criterion of below 0.5 um.
This study set out to predict the load capacity and rotordynamic coefficients of tilting-pad journal bearings, taking the pivot stiffness into account. The analysis uses rocker-back (cylindrical) and ball in socket (spherical) pivot models, both of which are based on Hertzian contact stress theory. The models ascertain the non-linear elastic deformation of the pivots according to the applied load, pivot geometry, and material properties. At present, the Reynolds equation for an isothermal, isoviscous, and incompressible fluid is used to calculate the film pressure by using the finite-element method, after which the Newton-Raphson method is used to simultaneously find the journal center location, pad angles, and pivot deflections. The bearing analysis, excluding the pivot models, is validated using predictions those are readily available in the literature. As the rotor speed increases, the predicted journal eccentricity and damping coefficients decrease, but the stiffness coefficients increase, as expected. Most importantly, the implementation of the pivot models increases the journal eccentricity but significantly decreases the stiffness and damping coefficients of the tilting-pad journal bearings.

The Hertzian indentation contact damage behavior of porous alumina with controlled pore shape was investigated by experiments. Porous alumina ceramics containing well-defined pore shape, size and distribution were prepared by incorporation of fugitive spherical starch. Porous alumina with isolated pore structure was prepared with porosity range up to 30%. The indentation stress-strain curves of porous alumina were constructed. Elastic modulus and yield stress can be obtained from the stress-strain relationship. Impulse excitation method for the measurement of elastic modulus was also conducted as well as Hertzian indentation and was confirmed as a useful tool to evaluate the elasticity of highly porous ceramics. Elastic modulus of the inter-connected pore structure is more sensitive to porosity than that of the isolated pore structure. When the specimen had isolated pore structure, higher yield point was obtained than it had inter-connected pore structure. This study proposed that the elastic modiulus of porous ceramics is strongly related to not only porosity, but also the structure of pore.
The globus pallidus of normal cats were prepared for electron microscopic study following perfusion with a mixture of 1% paraformaldehyde and 1% glutaraldehyde solution. Neurons of two size categories were identified in 1 $\\mu$m araldite sections and their ultrastructural characteristics were studied in adjacent thin section. 1. Large neurons ($30 \\mum \\times 45 \\mum$ in diameter) had extensive areas of rough surfaced endoplasmic reticulm, abundant perinuclear Golgi complex, numerous mitochondria and lipofusin granule, and had a large spherical nucleus with shallow indentation of nuclear manbrane. Small neurons ($17 \\mum \\times 27 \\mum$ in diameter) had poorly rough surfaced endoplasmic reticulum, moderate number of mitochondria and randomly distributed Golgi complex. The nuclear envelope of this cell frequently showed multiple deep invagination. 2. Three types of axo-somatic synapses were identified on the basis of the size and shape of vesicle in the axon terminal and the symmetrical or asymmetrical thickening at the synaptic site. Type I synaptic terminal shows an even distribution of round and oval synaptic vesicles, and has a symmetrical synaptic thickening. Type II axon terminals reveal mostly round and pleomorphic vesicles and a few vesicles were localized near the presynaptic membrane in pale axoplasm and its synaptic thickening were symmetric. Type III axon terminals contain round vesicles, which were aggregated in the axoplasm, and has a asymmetrical synaptic thickening. 3. The majority of axo-somatic contact with the large and small neurons were type I, and type II and III synapes were rare.
The collision energy absorbing characteristics of side structure of the LNG carriers which have the cargo containment systems of the spherical and the membrane types are compared. A failure mechanism of the double hull side structures of 130, 000 $m^3$ class LNG carriers under sideways collision event has been simulated by using the detailed finite element calculations. In ship collision analysis, the finite element method based on explicit time integration has been use[1 with much success. Finite element modeling techniques for detail description of structural members antral ship motion regarding the dynamic behavior allowed to investigate the effect of bow shape and the initial contact position on side shell of collided ship. In the numerical simulations of the ship-to-ship sideways collision, the effect of the colliding bow shapes and the change of the colliding ship draft are investigated. The critical collision energy which is absorbed by a side structure of a collided ship until the fore-end of colliding ship arrives at the boundary of the cargo tank is calculated. The critical speed of specified colliding ships which can not penetrate the boundary of the LNG cargo tank of the collided ship under collision accident if evaluated.

Overall procedure of cell fusion between Brevibacterium flavum and Corynebacterium glutamicum was morphologically observed by transmission electron microscopy. Protoplasts formed by treatment of cells with penicillin G and lysozyme in order were released through the pores generated on a certain region of cell walls to be spherical form. When two different protoplasts were met, cell wall and membrane in the contact zone was disappeared and followed by the mutual exchange of cytoplasmic and/or chromosomal materials. Cell xall regeneration speed of the protoplasts fused was slower than that of the non-fused, whereas the size of the former was confirmed as bigger than that of the latter.

We employed cobalt-disilicide for high-speed logic devices. We prepared stable and low resistant $CoSi_2$ through typical fabrication process including wet cleaning and rapid thermal process (RTP). We sputtered 15nm thick cobalt on the wafer and performed RTP annealing 2 times to obtain 60nm thick $CoSi_2$. We observed spherical shape voids with diameter of 40nm in the surface and inside $CoSi_2$ layers. The voids resulted in taking over abnormal junction leakage current and contact resistance values. We report that the voids in $CoSi_2$ layers are resulted from surface pits during the ion implantation previous to deposit cobalt layer. Silicide reaction rate around pits was enhanced due to Gibbs-Thompson effects and the volume expansion of the silicidation of the flat active regime trapped dimples. We confirmed that keeping the buffer oxide layer during ion implantation and annealing the silicon surface after ion implantation were required to prevent void defects in CoSi$_2$ layers.
Muscle spindle afferents from masseter muscle were labelled by the intra-axonal HRP injection and were processed for light microscopic reconstruction. Regions containing terminal arbors scattered in the central portion of the masseteric motor neuron pool (type I a) and those restricted to 2-3 small portion of it (type II) were selected and processed for electronmicroscopic analysis with serial sections. The shape of the labelled boutons was dome or elongated shape. Scalloped or glomerulus shape with peripherial indentation containing pre or postsynaptic neuronal propiles, which is occasionally found in the trigeminal main sensory nucleus and spinal dorsal horn, was not observed. Both type Ia and type II boutons had pale axoplasm and contained clear, spherical vesicles of uniform size(dia : 49-52nm) and occasionally large dense cored vesicles(dia : 87-118nm). The synaptic vesicles were evenly distributed throughout the boutons although there was a slight tendency of vesicles to accumulate at the presynaptic site. The average of short and long diameter(short D. + long D./2) of type I a bouton was smaller than that of type II bouton. All the labelled boutons, which showed prominent postsynaptic density, large synaptic area and multiple synaptic contact, made asymmetrical synaptic contact with postsynaptic neuronal propiles. Most of the type Ia and type II boutons made synaptic contact with only one neuronal propile and boutons which shows synaptic contact or more neuronal propiles was not observed. Most of the type Ia boutons(87.2%) were presynaptic to the soma or proximal dendrite and a few remainder(12.8%) made synaptic contact with dendritic shaft or distal dendrite. In contrast, majority of type II boutons showed synaptic contact with dendritic shaft and remainder with soma or proximal dendrite. In conclusion, terminal boutons which participate in the excitatory monosynaptic jaw jerk reflex made synaptic contact with more proximal region of the neuron, and showed very simple synaptic connection, compared with those from the primary afferenst in the other region of the central nervous system such as spinal dorsal horn and trigeminal main sensory nucleus which assumed to be responsible for the mediating pain, tactile sensation, sensory processing or sensory discrimination.
