The icy mantles of interstellar grains are developed by the freeze-out of interstellar molecules and atoms onto grain surfaces. The ice molecules become more complex by surface chemistry induced directly by high energy photons or by the thermal energy diffused over heated grain surface. Therefore, the ice composition is an important tracer of physical conditions where the ices form. Ices have been studied via their absorption features against continuum sources, such as young stellar objects or evolved background stars, in infrared wavelengths. The Spitzer IRS was the most sensitive spectrometer for the observations of infrared ice absorption features. We has been developing an automated analysis tool for the Spitzer IRS spectra, especially for the 15 ㎛ CO2 bending mode. The 15 ㎛ CO2 absorption feature is very useful for the study of accretion process in star formation since its spectral shape varies with thermal condition of the dust grains. Eventually, this tool will cover the whole range of the Spitzer IRS spectrum (5~20 ㎛).
Recent advances in computer technology have generated a new area of research known as radiomics. Radiomics is defined as the high throughput extraction and analysis of quantitative features from imaging data. Radiomic features provide information on the gray-scale patterns, inter-pixel relationships, as well as shape and spectral properties of radiological images. Moreover, these features can be used to develop computational models that may serve as a tool for personalized diagnosis and treatment guidance. Although radiomics is becoming popular and widely used in oncology, many problems such as overfitting and reproducibility issues remain unresolved. In this review, we will outline the steps of radiomics used for oncology, specifically addressing applications for breast cancer patients and focusing on technical issues.
Purple membrane from Halobacterium halobium was incorporated into 7.5% polyacrylamide gels. Absorption and circular dichroic spectra of purple membrane incorporated with gels were obtained at various pH. The spectra of these gels measured at pH 7.0 were essentially identical with those obtained in the aqueous suspension of purple membrane. Acid titration of the gels showed the transition to a form absorbing at 605nm $(bR_{605}^{acid}$) at pH 2.6, and to a second form at 565nm $(bR_{565}^{acid})$ at pH 0.8. Dark-adapted gels showed an isosbestic point for each transition whereas light-adapted gels did not. Visible CD spectra of $bR_{570}^{LA},\;bR_{305}^{acid}\;and\;bR_{565}^{acid}$ all showed the typical bilobed pattern. CD spectra measured at UV wavelength region were also independent of the variation of pH in terms of molar ellipticity and spectral shape. The protonated species $bR_{605}^{acid}$ may be one of the intermediates formed during the normal photochemical cycle of purple membrane. Most probably, the species $bR_{605}^{acid}$ is considered to be $O^{640}$ in the cycle.

This paper is a foundation work in developing a software for generating infrared images from a scene with various objects. The spectral radiance received by a remote sensor is consisted of the self-emitted, reflected and scattered components. In general, the self-emitted component is the most important part for generating Infrared signatures from the object. In this paper, the infrared image generation considering various surface temperature and optical surface property of a flat plate is demonstrated in MWIR($3{\sim}5{\mu}m$) and LWIR($8{\sim}12{\mu}m$) regions for different spatial resolutions of the images. Resulting spectral radiance values in the MWIR($3{\sim}5{\mu}m$) and LWIR($8{\sim}12{\mu}m$) regions arrived at the infrared sensor are compared numerically and graphically by recognizing that they are strongly dependent on the surface conditions such as the surface temperature and the surface emissivity. And these infrared images are also shown to be strongly dependent on the resolutions of the infrared imaging devices as well. This study reveals that the surface conditions are more dependent on the radiance level from the surface while the resolution of the imaging device is more responsible for identifying the shape of object.
The diffuse attenuation coefficient for downwelling irradiance $(K_d({\lambda}))$ is an important parameter for ocean studies. Based on the optical profile data measured during three cruises in the northern South China Sea in autumn from 2003 to 2005, variations in the $K_d({\lambda})spectra$ were analyzed. The variability of $K_d({\lambda})$ shows much distinct features both in magnitude and spectra shape. The $K_d({\lambda})value$ are much higher in costal waters than that of open oceanic waters and the blue-to-green(443/555) ratios of $K_d({\lambda})$ tends to increases with the chlorophyll a concentration ([Chl a]) from open ocean to coastal waters. These characteristics can be explained primarily by the increasing of $a_{w+p}(433)/a_{w+p}(555)$ with [Chl a]. In the short waveband, the relation between $K_d({\lambda})-K_w({\lambda})$ and [Chl a] can be well described by a power law function, suggesting the large contribution of phytoplankton to the variations in $K_d({\lambda})$. As for the spectral model of the diffuse attenuation coefficient, there are good linear relationships between $K_d(490)$ and $K_d({\lambda})$ at other wavelengths, with the slope parameter and the intercept following linear functions within the spectral range $412{\sim}555$ nm. These variabilities of $K_d({\lambda})$ provided much useful information for us to study the bio-optical properties in the northern South China Sea.

In this study, speech recognition for Korean digit is performed using filter bank which is programmed discrete HMM and DTW. Spectral analysis reveals speech signal features which are mainly due to the shape of the vocal tract. And spectral feature of speech are generally obtained as the exit of filter banks, which properly integrated a spectrum at defined frequency ranges. A set of 8 band pass filters is generally used since it simulates human ear processing. And defined frequency ranges are 320-330, 450-460, 640-650, 840-850, 900-1000, 1100-1200, 2000-2100, 3900-4000Hz and then sampled at 8kHz of sampling rate. Frame width is 20ms and period is 10ms. Accordingly, we found that the recognition rate of DTW is better than HMM for Korean digit speech in the experimental result. Recognition accuracy of Korean digit speech using filter bank is 93.3% for the 24th BPF, 89.1% for the 16th BPF and 88.9% for the 8th BPF of hardware realization of voice dialing system.

This study propose the vibration-based damage monitoring scheme for steel girder bolt-connection member by using wireless acceleration sensor node. In order to achieve the objective, the following approaches are implemented. Firstly, wireless acceleration sensor node is described on the design of hardware components and embedded operation software. Secondly, the vibration-based damage monitoring scheme of the steel girder bolt-connection member is described. The damage monitoring scheme performed global damage occurrence alarming and damage localization estimation by the acceleration response feature analysis. The global damage alarming is applied to the correlation coefficient of power spectral density. The damage localization estimation is applied to the frequency-based damage detection technique and the mode-shape-based damage detection technique. Finally, the performance of the vibration-based damage monitoring scheme is evaluated for detecting the bolt-connection member damage on a lab-scale steel girder.

In this paper, we investigated the method of compensation for optical pulse shape distortion due to both chromatic dispersion and SPM(self phase modulation) in a single mode fiber We selected MSSI(mid-span spectral inversion) as compensation method using OPC(optical phase conjugator). We used EOP(eye-opening penalty) parameter in order to evaluate the efficiency of waveform distortion compensation. In this paper, we induced optimum pump power level in optical phase conjugator through analytic method of computer simulation. And we investigated input signal power range being able to maintain stable reception performance under the condition of optimum pump power. We verified the possibility of high performance optical transmission system realization through the inducement and application of optimum pump power, input signal power and in-line amplifier spacing, because power control is important in the compensation for optical pulse distortion.

We updated the far-ultraviolet (FUV) spectral images of the entire Vela supernova remnant (SNR) using newly processed FIMS/SPEAR data. In the present study, we compare the newly produced FUV images with the X-ray and $H{\alpha}$ images, and examine how the Vela SNR evolves and interacts with the ambient medium on a global scale. The comparison with X-ray images has revealed a FUV filamentary feature corresponding with the boundary of the northeast-southwest asymmetry of the X-ray shell. The relatively low O IV] ${\lambda}1404$ to O III] ${\lambda}{\lambda}1661$, 1666 ratio estimated on the FUV filament is compatible with the previous proposal that the observed asymmetry of the Vela SNR could be due to the ${\gamma}2$ Velorum stellar wind bubble (SWB). The southwest FUV features surrounding a faint extended X-ray region are characterized as the region where the Vela SNR is interacting slightly stronger with ambient mediums within the dim X-ray southwest section. From a comparison with the $H{\alpha}$ image, we identify a ring-like $H{\alpha}$ feature overlapped with an extended hot X-ray feature of similar size and two local peaks of C IV ${\lambda}{\lambda}1548$, 1551 emission. Their morphologies are consistent with the expected shape when the $H{\alpha}$ ring is in direct contact with the near or far side of the Vela SNR. We suggest that the B3V-type star HD 76161 found at the center of the $H{\alpha}$ ring would be the exciting source of the H II region.

Seismic designs for Korean nuclear power plants (NPPs) under earthquakes' design basis are noticed due to the recent earthquake events in Korea and Japan. Japan has developed the technologies and experiences of the NPPs through theoretical research and experimental verification with extensively accumulated measurement data. This paper describes the main features of the design-time history complying with the Japanese seismic design standard. Proper seed motions in the earthquake catalog are used to generate one set of design time histories. A magnitude and epicentral distance specify the amplitude envelope function configuring the shape of the earthquake. Cumulative velocity response spectral values of the design time histories are compared and checked to the target response spectra. Spectral accelerations of the time histories and the multiple-damping target response spectra are also checked to exceed. The generated design time histories are input to the reactor building seismic analyses with fixed-base boundary conditions to calculate the seismic responses. Another set of design time histories is generated to comply with Korean seismic design procedures for NPPs and used for seismic input motions to the same reactor containment building seismic analyses. The responses at the dome apex of the building are compared and analyzed. The generated design time histories will be also applied to subsequent seismic analyses of other Korean standard NPP structures.
