In this paper, we propose a novel spectral-chopping model of Class-II$(1+D)^2$ -PRS system which reveals improved spectral efficiency. We build up the model having spectrum chopped by the amount of Nyquist over-rate, and then compare its characteristics with the conventional model in both the time-domain and the frequency-domain. When the transmission system operates above the Nyquist rate, the new model has better performance than the conventional PRS using its inherent speed-tolerance. According to our investigations, Class-II PRS shows more excellent effect in the spectral-chopping method than Class- I and W types analyzed previously. We ascertain that the over-rate of 26.675 obtained by the inherent speed-tolerance could be improved upto 40% using spectrum-truncation. These effects come from the fact that the raised-cosine spectrum of Class-II PRS has smaller Boss of frequency component and energy than any other types for the same amount of truncation. In order to validate these theoretical results, we present their sidelobe-trends confirming cancellation effects at the sampling instants and some experimental results showing their patterns of eye-openings and spectra.

We present the calculation of X -ray spectra produced through Compton scattering of soft X-rays by hot electrons in the spherical shell geometry, using fully relativistic Monte Carlo simulation. With this model, we show that the power-law component, which has been observed in the low luminosity state of low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs), is explained physically. From a spectral. analysis, we find that spectral hardness is mainly due to the relative contribution of scattered component. In addition, we see that Wi en spectral features appear when the plasma is optically thick, especially in the high energy range, $E{\gtrsim}100keV$. We suggest that after a number of scattering the escape probability approaches an asymptotic form depending on the geometry of the scattering medium rather than on the initial photon spectrum.
After using the filtering method, wave parameters are calculated by the spectral analysis and wave by wave analysis. Extreme environments and higher wave characteristics int he Chujeon Sea are analyzed using the observed wave data. Higher wave has been intensely emphasized as an important environmental force parameter in several recent research works. The aims of this study are to summarize the distribution of extreme environment for wind waves, and to find occurrence probability of higher wave in Chujeon Sea. Ocean wave statistics varying with sea state are found to respond linearly to the spectral peakedness parameter Qp, mean run-length and Ursell number. Although the spreading of the field results is large, it may be concluded that the tendency of wave group formation depends on the spectral peakedness parameter Qp. Extreme wave is estimated to apply various model distribution functions by using the monthly maximum significant wave parameters which can be used to the design and analysis of coastal structures.

This paper proposes a method for pattern recognition using spectral analysis and a hybrid genetic-neural-fuzzy networks. The feature vectors using spectral analysis on contour sequences of 2-D images are extracted, and the vectors are not effected by translation, rotation and scale variance. A combined model using the advantages of conventional method is proposed, those are supervised learning BP, global searching genetic algorithm, and unsupervised learning fuzzy c-method. The proposed method is applied to 10 aircraft recognition to confirm the performance of the method. The experimental results show that the proposed method is better accuracy than conventional method using BP or fuzzy c-method, and learning speed is enhanced.

This paper proposes a speech processing system based on a model of the human auditory system and a noise reduction neural network with fast Fourier transform (FFT) amplitude and phase spectrums for noise reduction under background noise environments. The proposed system reduces noise signals by using the proposed neural network based on FFT amplitude spectrums and phase spectrums, then implements auditory processing frame by frame after detecting voiced and transitional sections for each frame. The results of the proposed system are compared with the results of a conventional spectral subtraction method and minimum mean-square error log-spectral amplitude estimator at different noise levels. The effectiveness of the proposed system is experimentally confirmed based on measuring the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). In this experiment, the maximal improvement in the output SNR values with the proposed method is approximately 11.5 dB better for car noise, and 11.0 dB better for street noise, when compared with a conventional spectral subtraction method.
In this study I investigate how native Korean listeners perceive English vowels /i/, /I/, and /$\epsilon$/. I extend Flege et al's (1997) study with synthesized /i/-/I/ and /I/-/$\epsilon$/ continua, and apply the results to Flege's (1995) Speech Learning Model (SLM). The statistical results show that native speakers of English rely more on spectral steps than on vowel duration when they identify the /i/-/I/ continuum, whereas native speakers of Korean rely more on vowel duration than on spectral steps when they identify the same continuum. In the case of the /I/-/$\epsilon$/ continuum, both groups rely on spectral steps when they identify the /$\epsilon$/, which supports the SLM; Koreans identified the /$\epsilon$/ categorically since Korean has the equivalent vowel. However, there was not statistical difference between Korean subjects with more English experience (KE) and those with less English experience in the identification of both continua. This contradicts the SLM, which posits that experienced L2 learners are better than inexperienced L2 learners in perception of L2 sounds. The exact nature of this should be further investigated in the SLM.

This paper presents a statistical analysis method for the selection of electroencephalogram (EEG) electrode positions and spectral features to recognize emotion, where emotional valence and arousal are classified into three and two levels, respectively. Ten experiments for a subject were performed under three categorized IAPS (International Affective Picture System) pictures, i.e., high valence and high arousal, medium valence and low arousal, and low valence and high arousal. The electroencephalogram was recorded from 12 sites according to the international 10~20 system referenced to Cz. The statistical analysis approach using ANOVA with Tukey's HSD is employed to identify statistically significant EEG electrode positions and spectral features in the emotion recognition.

This paper considers a pipeline conveying one-dimensional unsteady flow inside. The dynamics of the fluid-pipe system is represented by two coupled equations of motion for the transverse and axial displacements, which are linearized from a set of partial differential equations which consists of the axial and transverse equations of motion of the pipeline and the equations of momentum and continuity of the internal flow. Because of the complex nature of fluid-pipe interactive mechanism, a very accurate solution method is required to get sufficiently accurate dynamic characteristics of the pipeline. In the literatures, the finite element models have been popularly used for the problems. However, it has been well recognized that finite element method (FEM) may provide poor solutions especially at high frequency. Thus, in this paper, a spectral element model is developed for the pipeline and its accuracy is evaluated by comparing with the solutions by FEM.
Although most of observed properties of giant radio relics detected in the outskirts of galaxy clusters could be explained by relativistic electrons accelerated at merger-driven shocks, a few significant puzzles remain. In some relics the shock Mach number inferred from X-ray observations is smaller than that estimated from radio spectral index. Such a discrepancy could be understood, if either the shock Mach number is nder-estimated in X-ray observation due to projection effects, or if pre-existing electrons with a flat spectrum are re-accelerated by a weak shock, retaining the flat spectral form. In this study, we explore these two scenarios by comparing the results of shock acceleration simulations with observed features of the so-called Toothbrush relic in the merging cluster 1RXS J060303.3. We find that both models could reproduce reasonably well the observed radio flux and spectral index profiles and the integrated radio spectrum. Either way, the broad transverse relic profile requires additional post shock electron acceleration by downstream turbulence.
The power spectrum of background EEG is estimated by the Plsarenko Harmonic Decomposition with the stochastic process whlch consists of the nonhamonic sinus Bid and the white nosie. The estimation results are examined and compared with the results from the maximum entropy spectral extimation, and the optimal order of this from the maximum entropy spectral extimation, and the optimal order of this model can be determined from the eigen value's fluctuation of autocorrelation of background EEG. From the comparing results, this method is possible to estimate the power spectrum of background EEG.
