  • We have studied the properties of interstellar turbulence as observed by Boston University-Five College Radio Astronomy Observatory (BU-FCRAO) Galactic Ring Survey (GRS). This observation uses 13CO J=$1{\rightarrow}0$ emission with high spectral resolution of 0.21 kms-1 and covers wide galactic plane regions ($18^{\circ}$ < 1 < $55.7^{\circ}$ and -1 < b < $1^{\circ}$). Firstly, we measured the one dimensional power spectrum of 13CO intensity along the galactic longitude and along the galactic latitude. We found the slope of the power spectrum changes around the molecular ring structure and the center of the galactic plane. Secondly, we explored how the power spectral slope is related with the velocity dispersion of supersonic giant molecular clouds in the GRS. Finally, we suggest the turbulent nature of the interstellar medium is connected with star formation activities in spiral arms.

  • Purpose: To determine the motor cortex dysfunction in hemiparetic patients due to deep intracerebral hematoma, authors peformed proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H MRS) for the evaluation of biochemical changes in the cortex on affected hemisphere according to axonal injury at the level of internal capsule. Materials and methods: Ten control subjects and 14 patients with documentable hemiparesis of varying severity hemiparesis were included. All the hemiparesis was caused by deep intracerebral hematoma (putaminal and thalamic hemorrhage). In vivo 1H MRS study was performed on a 3T MRI/MRS system using STEAM sequence. As a single-voxel technique, Spectral parameters were: 20 ms TE, 2000 ms TR, 128 averages, 2500 Hz spectral width, and 2048 data points.

  • GPC has been reported as a useful self-tuning control algorithm for systems with unknown time-delay and parameters. GPC is easy to understand and implement, and thus has won popularity among many practicing engineers. Despite its success, GPC does not guarantee is nominal stability. So, in this paper, GPC is rederived in frequency domain instead of in the time domain to guarantee its nominal stability. Derivation of GPC in frequency domain involves spectral factorization and Diophantine equation. Frequency domain GPC control law is stable because the zeros of characteristic polynomial are strictly Schur. Recursive least square algorithm is used to identify unknown parameters. To see the effectiveness of the proposed controller, the controller is simulated for a numerical problem that changes in dead-time, in order and in parameters.

  • In this paper the acoustic characteristics of pathological voice, which are measured before and after surgical operation, are compared. This experiment is conducted for the purpose of predicting patients' speech after operation. The voices are recorded from the same patients. Jitter, shimmer and other parameters are. computed and their statistical characteristics are compared. Also spectral changes, such as formant frequency shift and spectral slope change, are compared. From the experimental results, it is verified that not only source characteristics but also vocal tract components vary. And this indicates that the modification of source parameters are not enough for the prediction. Also the result indicates that the operation causes change to both the physical shape of vocal folds and the manner of articulation.

  • The study of incompressible magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence gives useful insights on many astrophysical problems. We describe a pseudo-spectral MHD code suitable for the study of incompressible turbulence. We review our recent' works on direct three-dimensional numerical simulations for MHD turbulence in a periodic box. In those works, we use a pseudo-spectral code to solve the incompressible MHD equations. We first discuss the structure and properties of turbulence as functions of scale. The results are consistent with the scaling law recently proposed by Goldreich & Sridhar. The scaling law is based on the concept of scale-dependent isotropy: smaller eddies are more elongated than larger ones along magnetic field lines. This scaling law substantially changes our views on MHD turbulence. For example, as noted by Lazarian & Vishniac, the scaling law can provide a fast reconnection rate. We further discuss how the study of incompressible MHD turbulence can help us to understand physical processes in interstellar medium (ISM) by considering imbalanced cascade and viscous damped turbulence.

  • This paper is on a study for discrimination on relative sequence as a most actively discussed topic in forensic document fields. This paper describes the application of the visual spectral comparator and infinite focus microscope as observation methods for overlapping region of printing and writing lines. As a result, we could categorize overlapping region images and identify the sequence of printing and writing lines by various inks.

  • The relationship is derived for color CRT display system between the spectral radian existence emitted and digital inputs. The amount of spectral radiant existence depends on the characteristics of the video board, electric circuits, and CRT as well as digital inputs. Especially, the function of this relationship changes as the amplifier gain and offset voltage of electric circuits. In this study, we set the test display system on the optimum state which satisfies gun independence characteristics by using the contrast and the brightness controls of display. Temporal stability, special uniformity, and color distinction of CRT display system are evaluated at the optimum state. Also contrasts in dark room and illuminated room are compared.

  • MSC(Multi-Spectral Camera) which is a unique payload for KOMPSAT-2, comprises main three subsystems of PMU(Paylaod Management Unit), EOS(Electro -Optical Subsystem) and PDTS(Payload Data Transmission Subsystem). The PMU, as a main controller of MSC, performs major tasks such as interfacing with S/C(Space Craft), controlling the MSC operation, distributing and controlling of operating power to all MSC including thermal unit, etc. In this paper the H/W configurations as well as the functions of PMU are introduced and possible changes for the future development are suggested.

  • The Acousto-Optic Tunable Filter (AOTF) is a high-speed full-field monochromator which generates two spectrally filtered light beams with ordinary and extraordinary polarization state. Thus, AOTF is widely used to build full-field spectral imaging system or spectral domain interferometer. However, AOTF has a big problem that the angle of diffracted light changes according to the scanning of wavelength, which makes image shift on CCD plane In this paper, we propose an analytic design of prism system to compensate the image shift. The detailed analysis of light paths in a prism and basic experimental results are presented to verify our proposed compensation method. The experimental results agree with simulation results based on suggested prism model and image shift is minimized at optimal condition. Also, it can be extended to compensate the image shift for ordinary and extraordinary polarized light simultaneously.

  • In this paper we propose a method to generate a true color image in scanning white-light interferometry (SWLI). Previously, a true color image was obtained by using a color camera, or an RGB multichannel light source. Here we focused on acquiring a true color image without any hardware changes in basic SWLI, in which a monochrome camera is utilized. A Fourier transform method was used to obtain the spectral intensity distributions of the light reflected from the sample. RGB filtering was applied to the intensity distributions, to determine RGB values from the spectral intensity. Through color corrections, a true color image was generated from the RGB values. The image generated by the proposed method was verified on the basis of the RGB distance and peak signal-to-noise ratio analysis for its effectiveness.
